IITs are degrading their quality by increasing the student intake at UG level, from 2016-17 where the intake was around 8k to 9k, now it's whopping 18-20k, means average folks are also somehow entering the premises. These average folks will somehow suffer during placement season and thereby degrading the institute reputation.
IITs will never be the same as they used to be.
increasing student intake? Nah, to begin with, not only the seats increased institutions did as well, new gen 3 iits are there. so ofc, 15k rank is where one can get iit. Also, there is not alot of gap between a 9k ranker or a 15k ranker, so if you considers 9k person as not average, then in no scale 15k are average.
No one being average is entering iit premises.

A bigger threat to iits is the reservation people, they literally get into iits with 30-40 thousand ranks, I will say a general category guy with 15k rank is still better than those people for iits

What's pathetic in this?
I feel sorry but these type of incidents are very common in BHU as a campus, many such incidents are not even reported, the sole reason is the university is open and any one can enter without any restrictions. These incidents will keep on happening untill outsiders are totally banned from entering. Practices like increasing surveillance, installing cameras etc are bound to fail.
