Alan Wilson was a true student of the blues. He learned his lessons well. Very talented man .. my uncle Bernie knew Mr. Wilson, and said he was a very humble person. The world lost a great talent, RIP, Alan, blind own Wilson.

Wilson blossomed into the dedicated musician/historian because The Blues grabbed him by his soul. He found his purpose and it lit him up. I admire him greatly.

I think but I may be wrong that the reason Alan’s voice is slower after 2:47 is because it is a different interview. There is a splice of the tape there and also instead of a guy asking the questions suddenly it is a female.

His singing voice is so completely different from his speaking voice.

He's so thoughtful and articulate. The way he dissects the music into small pieces for a blues player is surprising. He also really know his blues players. He seems to be the eternal student. What a sweetheart.

He patterned his singing voice after another blues singer named ‘Skip’ James.

This very insteresting. He talks about Blind Joe Reynolds, who just passed away March 10,1968 (a little less than a month before this interview). I said this before, but... Alan talks about "Bare Foot Bill" playing on one of Ed Bell recordings ;it is now pretty much regarded as just one of Ed Bell's pseudonyms. I wonder what his thoughts would have been, knowing this information.

2:47 point, I feel like he sounds different like slightly sedated, he talks a little slower. I've listen to all of these interviews, and there is a definite change in his tone and speech speed. He's still very articulate throughout. Thanks for posting. When was this interview done? Date?

The date? Well, if the title is any indication, April 05, 1968.

      Different interview.
If you listen to the end of part 2, he says he wants to finish his thought because the time was up. He says ‘Already?’ or something like that indicating he’s surprised the interview session has timed out.

Sounds like two different interviews, spliced together. He sounds tired in the second one.

Wow! At .52 when he said, "what's happening?" I wonder what the female said! Like maybe it was time for a break or time to stop. Because after that he sounds different! That's what secinol sounds like. It's a downer, sleeping pill. But, of course, I'm only guessing. He truly was a genius!

That was my reaction, too. After the splice, he sounds like he's on seconal or tuinal. I remember that phemnomenon well.

Marina Bokelman and John Fahey interview Alan for Marina’s thesis work in American Blues Music. A book was recently published of the work Marina and John did to capture as much of the living blues performed by those pre-war blues performers still alive in the 1960’s.
