How sending ECS Fargate logs directly to Datadog reduces CloudWatch costs

In our discussion with Martin Borek, Technical Product Manager (TPM) in Kry's Platform Engineering team, about how they reduced their AWS costs by 70%, he described how sending ECS Fargate logs directly to Datadog (and skipping the CloudWatch logs relay) was a key initiative contributing to the overall savings.
At first, Kry had logs sent to CloudWatch and OpenSearch.
But OpenSearch wasn't given much love (i.e. not all logs were sent there), so engineers primarily used CloudWatch as the place to look for logs.
Eventually they switched from OpenSearch to Datadog, still running CW and Datadog in parallel.
They needed to build trust in the Datadog logs so that they wouldn't have to use CloudWatch (and pay for two different solutions).
