    The amount of times I've seen people try to sell first edition deathly Hallows for £300+ is ridiculous 😂😂

    My only first editions are Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows. I remember queueing up at midnight for the last books' release. Great video btw

      Jamez JAMEZZZ no she didn’t appreciate it. She considers letting scholastic change the title the biggest mistake of her career. She even used to correct people when they said sorcerers stone and said it was Philosophers Stone.

    I've got three first edition books, half-blood prince, order of the Phoenix and the deathly hallows but as I had these books as a kid I wrote my name and date inside of the book. It says in my book that I bought it on 14th July 2005 midnight 😂

    I have a first edition 8th print of The Philosophers Stone. I think it’s really cool because it shows a younger Dumbledore on the spine which was later reprinted with an older Dumbledore. I’m not sure if I would ever consider selling it though because I think it holds more personal value to me than monetary value. 😊

      Yes and no. In the case of the hardcover first printing, you're paying to own one of only 500 in the world.

      Same thing with coins. Some misprinted, and coins with error are much rarer because they usually caught the mistake

    The First editions’ box sets became so hard to find, and it’s so frustratingI just want one of each paperback complete 7 books set (so not the original original adult ones with only the first 4 books)Sure they are never gonna be as rare as these extremely valuable books But still, why do they have to stop printing these just because they have new editionsSure to make people buy those insteadBut wouldn’t it be great if people could pick which set they like the most and buy thatAs a kid i absolutely adored the adult editions with all the items on the cover.... but can’t get it just like thatSo for a while i’m gonna have thise huge hole in my box set collection, because first ed children and first ed adult has decided to disappear from earth -.-

    This is true for so many collectible books out there, it's sad that sellers do not explain or even know if they are selling a first printing. It is difficult because each publisher and each book has its own first printing points, but as always, buyer beware. Thank you for posting this and sharing your knowledge with us!

    I was at the bookstore earlier today and picked up a copy of OOTP because I didn't have the Bloomsbury version and had all the others and it was driving me nuts. So when I saw it in the secondhand section for 9 euros I thought 'might as well'. It was wrapped in see through foil so when I opened it at home I checked the print and was pleasantly surprised to find it was a first print. Really boosted my mood.

    I bought a full set of the 7 books. HBP and DH first editons, for 50 dollars. This video helped me understand that it's not rare at all, but still a good deal.

    Question my order of the Phoenix cover is the exact same as yours does but it says" first Canadian edition" instead of just "first edition" I don't quite understand the difference? Plus it has a number line when you said it doesn't

    Oh my gosh I got these UK or / Canadian books and my goblet of fire says first edition the only problem is the back of the book looks like it has been damaged lol literally the back of the book is taped on lmaoo the only thing is that it has a number line

    I'm trying to get all first printings. Currently have like a 40th of ps😂 11th of chamber of secrets 😂 24th of poa and the rest first editions. Most are immacluate condition aswell. As I am only young I can't afford to spend much on my collection atm but so all of these were found in charity shops for 1 or 2 pounds. I hope to have all first editions one day

      alani in second hand book stores or on ebay. I just wanted to get them as cheap as possible, because I was 17 at the time and didn't have a job yet.

    Wonderful collection and videos. You can really see your passion for collecting. Is your first edition hardcover the same one from your video in 2016? The library copy? If that is a restoration, that looks really well done. I collect books as well, but my tastes are a bit more all over the place, though I do have a HP 1st, its just the paperback.

      Thank you so much! No, my current copy is unrestored. The one in the 2016 video was the first 1/1 in my collection. I sold it to help pay for this new upgraded copy. A 1/1 paperback is rare too!

    What if I have absolutely all of these for the philosophers stone, but my number line on the publishing page is only “1098”.... everything else matches 100%, like Joanne Rowling, all the mistakes, etc.

      Those numbers are the impressions. If the line has a "1" anywhere it is a first impression. A line that is 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 means a true 1st 1st copy! So it seems like you have the real deal since you said 10 9 8 ...... (implying it had all the numbers down to 1).

    There's a used bookstore near my house. It has an entire shelf full of Harry Potter books. I randomly picked up a few, and got a second printing Prisoner of Azkaban. Now wondering if they have any first printings. Once corona virus is over, I am going to investigate! 🔎

    You forgot to mention that there are technically two first printings of Goblet of Fire. A smaller number of them were printed in Scotland, which is the one you showed us in the video. I'm guessing a Goblet of Fire printed in Scotland is a bit more valuable than one printed in England.

      Very true. I realized this after rewatching again and noticed "Omnia" on my copyright page of Goblet. 1/3 of the first printing Goblet books were printed at Omnia, the others at Clays. :)

    I have a Canadian print Half Blood Prince with the cover bound upside down/backwards. In the story it also says 11 owls instead of 10. Is this rare/valuable?

      No it’s not as I have a uk first edition version with the same 11 not 10 owls mistake. With uk and Canada put together 16 million copy’s were sold with that mistake

    Have you ever been to Universal Studios, down here in Orlando? If so, how did you like it? I recently visited Universal about two days ago. I loved going to Diagon Alley, it was so much fun. My Mom and I kept making the joke of Harry Potter saying 'DIGONELLEY' instead of 'Diagon Alley' in the second movie, 'Chamber of Secrets.'

    i think the "1 wand" mistake was a 1st edition error because i have a canadian 1st edition book but its from the 7th printing and the page 53 mistake is there lol

      Yes, you can find the 1 wand error in many of the Canadian printing books as well as a few later printing UK books.

    I thought Prisoner of Azkaban had 3 first printing states? The first 2 that you mentioned, then a 3rd state which has 2 adverts of the 2 prior books at the back of the book, and the "printed in GB by Clays Ltd." is omitted from the edition / print run page. See www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=15736767544 as an example, albeit a signed one.

      Yes. Many believe there are three states. But recently Harry Potter collectors are agreeing (I am one of them) that the 3rd state is actually the first printing Australian edition. Most are found in Australia, the paper quality is the same as earlier and later HP books (if you compare all three states, the 3rd state is a bit thicker which is true when comparing the UK and Australian CoS for example), there is no printer info which matches that of the 2nd printing Australian book, and finally there is no 1st printing Australian copy. All roads point to the fact that the 1/1/3 PoA is Australian. :)

    How much is my Harry Potter and the philosophers stone worth if it is a first edition paperback but not first printing. It does not have the mistake of Wand being written twice. On the front it is not written Wendy Cooling either. However it does have the young wizard on the back.

    I bought the 1st and 2nd editions of her books. But I bought them in the United states. the first one was not very much, but the 2nd one cost $50.00 because she signed first sheet. I do not know if they would be worth anything now.

    Just went to a garage sale and bought some Harry Potter books for $20 so I checked this video and Guess who’s got a perfect condition hardback philosophers stone first print with all the errors. Meeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    What print run is “1098” that’s what my Canadian philosophers stone says. My girl friends has 16 15 14 13 12 11 10 09 08. Why is mine a 4 digit number and hers a sequence of 2 digit numbers ?

    I don't know if anyone else notices in the HP Philosopher's Stone Book on specific pages (mainly right side) it seems off centered and it really bugs me lol

      I spend days off charity shop hunting :))) got 2x 1/43 Philosopher's Stone, 1/16 Chamber, a 1/1, 1/15, 1/25 Azkaban (paperbacks) all about £2....

    I have a British 7th print of Prisoner - I have seen people trying to sell it for up to $200 - I'm guessing they are not actually selling. Sounds like it doesn't have much value.

    my philosphers stone book is a 22nd printing (30 down to 22) would that have been from 1997? it says 1997 on the copyright page but im pretty sure if my memory is right that i got it much later new.

    I have a curiosity question, I have the green hardback, with gold trim and lettering, Prisoner of Azkaban first run (copy)
    The print page has the full Joanne Rowling name, but in the first story page, the 'burnt' word is correctly in mid sentence.
    Can you clarify this?

    In my book of HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban there arent any numbers like 10 to 1 but 40 to 32 what does it mean

      The lowest number in that number line gives you the printing number. So in your case, you have a 32nd printing of the book.
