Stoker's use of the female gender in this novel is so nuanced. On one hand he clearly communicates the friendship of Lucy and Mina and develops two solid characters. Mina turns out to be a major force in the conclusion of the novel and Lucy, although promiscuous and less moral than Lucy (1890's standards) deserves the readers sympathy. Having said that, the majority of the vampires in this tale are women driven by blood lust. Woo Hoo! Can't wait for part 3!
