Your idea of a small-scale Peter Criss solo tour got my gears turning. I think if Peter had a great live band and a competent musical director to hire/manage the band and oversee the production/presentation, it would be great. I envision Peter out front singing for most of the show, because he's 70 years old and his drumming would sound best in small doses. Hire Anton Fig to be the touring drummer. Book 50 dates in the U.S. and call it a day. Peter Criss Farewell Tour 2017 set list: I'm Gonna Love You (Peter Criss 1978) Tears (Let Me Rock You) There's Nothing Better (Out of Control) Don't You Let Me Down (Peter Criss 1978) One For All (One For All) Hooligan (Love Gun) Jealous Guy (Let Me Rock You) First Day in the Rain (Let Me Rock You) Respect (The Sounds of Soul cover 1967) I Can't Stop the Rain (Peter Criss 1978) Baby Driver (Rock and Roll Over) Out of Control (Out of Control) Good Times (Cat #1) Do You Know What I Mean? ** (The Keep cover 1990) Bad Reputation ** (Cat #1) Tossin' and Turnin' ** (Peter Criss 1978) Encore: Beth (Destroyer) Dirty Livin' ** (Dynasty) Hard Luck Woman ** (Rock and Roll Over) ** Peter Criss on drums
In 1993-ish, Peter along with Mark (Tallman) were guests at the Chicago KISS expo. I was hired to escort Peter to and from his room and kind of run the autograph line. Peter broke a kids record, had NOTHING good to say about KISS, and after we took him back to his room after the autograph session, I asked Peter if he wanted me to take him down to see all the KISS memorabilia and the KISS museum that was set up after the crowd left. He asked me "why the fuck would I want to look at all that KISS shit?" Also, he was stingy and would not offer us a beer when we were hanging out in his room after. I found him to be an arrogant ass.....Kind of like Ace was the following year. As a huge (still) KISS fan since 1975 I was very dis-appointed.
Ace was kind of like Peter. Kind of arrogant. Thought he was a bigger star on his own than with Kiss. And every 2 minutes he had his compact out caking his face with make-up. I was VERY disappointed meeting these guys, which sucked because they were my hero's since 1976.
I would love to see Peter, Paul, Gene and Ace get back together. But no makeup or any talk of reforming, reuniting the original band. Just four brothers getting together to play the great music they made together.
we still have never seen the original Kiss on a stage with no makeup. Unplugged, yes, but not with electric guitars. I would still pay to see it, no matter how old they get
Peter for some reason always seemed to think that he was much more valuable and important than he actually was. No disrespect. He's a legend and part of rock N roll history. But that was his downfall. He was greedy
He mentions Peter fluctuating. I don't disagree with the "fluctuation of tempo" - MINOR fluctuations - I just watched a reunion tour video where on "Watchin' You", Peter didn't come in on time. COME IN ON TIME. That isn't an option. And, there is a RIGHT way and a WRONG way to play a song written by someone else. The player has some leeway but the writer has final say. Peter doesn't like to be wrong...and his music and career show it. This VIDEO shows it.
drummer78 and I understand that. But that's not what we're talking about. this is a major non start. The song He's rehearsed of a song has played most of his life. That's the indication of a drummer who just doesn't practice and just doesn't care.
First, a bit of context. I started with Kiss like so many have...1976...Rock And Roll Over. I was obsessed with all things Kiss till 1982. When Ace and Peter left, so did I. I was out for about ten years, then got the fever again. When the reunion came, i was the same as I was in 1976. It was great. Now, the more I learn about Peter the less I like him. I read his book...and to quote the catman...I just wept. Not because it was sad or I felt sorry for him, but because I was just disgusted with Peter. I don't want him back in Kiss...I don't think he can do it anymore, and I don't want to hear his whining. His skills are gone. I take nothing away from him in the 70s....up to 77 he was awesome. This is 2016. I don't want him back. His drumming sucks my balls.
Enjoyed the show, as usual, guys! Mark was a great guest and I really enjoyed the stories. Great shirt, Mike! I'd love to know how many people actually know where that is from.
Man... if it was only five or six days earlier I could have made it to the KISS expo because I'll be in New York from the 23rd to October 4th! Well... I'll be there in spirit. Good episode!
I remember buying a cassette copy of that Criss album when it came out, and I was severely disappointed by it. Peter sounded like he was slapping his drums with wet noodles, and the acoustic version of "Beth" was cut off at the end of the song.
@Michael Brandvold - revisiting this after a few years - still as entertaining as the first time I heard it - I never could find the book but it seems like he touched on most of it - have you guys ever spoken to him again? I just wonder if he and PC hooked back up and worked on that "Rock Album" - at this point after the way Mark & PC ...I mean Cat - talk about songs like "Golden Arm" , I don't know if they could live up to their enthusiasm - anyway - again this was a good one - hope all is well with you & your family after this crazy year - BV
I've gotten 3 songs into One For All and that's it. I can't stomach it. Having said that, I'd buy a new Peter album. I'll always buy anything the original four puts out, even if it turns out bad. I'm a nutty fan I guess. haha
SOOOOOOOO....What's the issue?.....Did Paul answer that question? Is there real psychological manipulation going on? I really hope that Peter has found true peace and companionship regardless of what was won, lost, or sailed never to be seen. That other stuff is not as important as his overall happiness. YES, I would buy the Peter Criss ROCK album!
Mike, his frame of mind was cocaine. It was 1980 and he had everything but music at his fingertips. All that aside, he is the backbone of the KISS empire. Name 1 song any KISS fan would know that Eric Played/wrote, same with EricS :)
Eric Carr - I love it loud , creatures of the night , lick it up , heavens on fire ,forever(top 10 hit) Eric Singer - god gave r&r ,domino - just to name a few that any kiss fan would know. As far as writing goes ,Peter didnt write shit, what 3 songs? Was peter the backbone of the band when he was AUDITIONING for Gene and Paul in the loft that they rented ,not Peter?? Or maybe the management promo pack that he didnt write when they got management?? Or perhaps it was the studio time that Paul and Gene paid for to do demos?? Maybe it was the songs he didnt write that got them signed?? Thank god he was the backbone...
I think we might like the same things which is what makes it so shocking. I hope you realize I'm not trying to be offensive or anything and in a way, I commend your renegade point of view but damn, I'm shocked. By 1987 I was so long gone from KISS, listening to bands like Megadeth that Crazy Nights seems so tame by comparison.
One of my favorite shows. Hated for it to end. Peter was always my favorite in the early years and inspired me to be a drummer. He started sliding after the solo albums to me and I just couldn't listen to it as much as the others. When he quit I was shocked and saddened until I heard Eric play. Wow!! Totally changed the kind of drummer I wanted to be. I went back and listened to One for All for the first time. My God, who engineered that? The singing was bad and the songs were meh, but the sound of it was so amateur. Just unbelievable. If he put out a heavy rock album and I would give it a shot. Probably wouldn't buy it but I'd look it up on Spotify. lol Mark had the funniest comment ever on the show. "The last song may have been the greatest song ever. I wouldn't know, I couldn't get there." I'm still laughing. That's a dude I would really like to hang with.
John Stowe the problem with Peter was when they made the Destroyer album Bob ezrin was the worst mistake they could have ever made that direction they went in with Destroyer album was a joke and I'm glad they went back and pulled rock and roll over out for the next album but they changed Peter's drumming they forced him to play differently than the first three albums they should have never done that cuz they forced his hand as a drummer they tried to change him into something that he wasn't and people always talk about how great Peter was from 74 to 76 before they did the Destroyer album and how unique is drumming was and how tough he was behind the kid and how creative his ship was well you can thank the Destroyer album for f****** him up. They brought him Bob ezrin to simplify the band that's pretty much what he did I mean they didn't need to go down the Alice Cooper route cuz obviously he was Alice Cooper's producer for years and they were Alice Cooper and I think that's where a lot of the jealousy from Peter came from the fact that you know these m************ were trying to change him as a musician and that was the point that I think his drumming started to spiral off even though rock and roll over was a good drumming album it was awesome and so was love gun but his drumming and changed like even his live solos were different. You don't change a good thing you make it better they should have never made the Destroyer album it destroyed kiss.
Hey guys love the show!! I have a good idea for a episode! I don't know if you have done it yet but my idea is to discuss if kiss had come out in 74 without the make up would they have been successful? or had they been a new band in the 80s and there first album was lick it up would they have been another casualty of the 80s hair metal scene or would they have been a relevant band till this day!? just a thought let me know what you think!! cheers!
It would be great to have two reunion albums. Not a tour just new great kiss music. One produced by Eddie Kramer the other Bob Ezrin. Then they could tour with whatever lineup. I can dream can't I?
Great show as always guys. I guess what Paul and Gene( whoops I said their names) have been saying about Peter was true. All the Green kool- aid drinkers can KISS it and stop bitching about someone wearing his makeup. He seems to be a miserable person to deal with. Which is sad because I like his voice and his drum solos thought he brought a unique sound to KISS . Seems to me he does not love the fans or music like the other guys. Just my 2 cents.

It all depends on who you are. Whenever Tommy hangs out with him, Peter breaks out the Dom Perignon, and they do Jello shots off Gi-gi's belly.
Actually,it depends on his mood.Mark has met him a few times and its up or down from what he said.
Ace was kind of like Peter. Kind of arrogant. Thought he was a bigger star on his own than with Kiss. And every 2 minutes he had his compact out caking his face with make-up. I was VERY disappointed meeting these guys, which sucked because they were my hero's since 1976.
Catching up on some old episodes.......as always, enjoyed this show alot. I bought the Criss Cat #1 CD when it came out and mostly enjoyed it....
I would love to see Peter, Paul, Gene and Ace get back together. But no makeup or any talk of reforming, reuniting the original band. Just four brothers getting together to play the great music they made together.

Paul nailed it years ago about Peter and his playing, "It was great when he was great and it sucked when he wasn't"
I couldn't even get through the 30 second snippets of Peter Criss' album on Itunes. I wouldn't subject my worst enemy to that God awfulness!!
This was a great interview with Mark Montague . Thank you for making this show
Tried to find Mark’s book (July, 2022), can’t find it other than EBay. Anyone know how I can find it?
Love you guys. This is the ultimate lineup (you three incl Mark) that works for me best.
He mentions Peter fluctuating. I don't disagree with the "fluctuation of tempo" - MINOR fluctuations - I just watched a reunion tour video where on "Watchin' You", Peter didn't come in on time. COME IN ON TIME. That isn't an option.

I think I saw that same vid - MSG, July 96 during the reunion tour? Yeah, I noticed that clam too.
Frank Patek To be fair, I've seen Neil Peart screw up onstage. I've seen Pete Townshend screw up too.
drummer78 and I understand that. But that's not what we're talking about. this is a major non start. The song He's rehearsed of a song has played most of his life. That's the indication of a drummer who just doesn't practice and just doesn't care.
Frank Patek Do you have a link of that clip?
It was during the reunion tour. Not sure when.
I saw this a while ago. Look, I like Peter, but facing facts - he really wasn't really that good.
That was good stuff guys.Great guest, great stories.
First, a bit of context. I started with Kiss like so many have...1976...Rock And Roll Over. I was obsessed with all things Kiss till 1982. When Ace and Peter left, so did I. 1:03:50 that explains what the photographer dude didn’t get from the other ep can’t remember his name
Great interview. Just placed an order for the book.
1:07:50 he’s an artist you want the song to go up tempo if it gets more intense and Dow down during moody parts etc
Enjoyed the show, as usual, guys! Mark was a great guest and I really enjoyed the stories.
Great shirt, Mike! I'd love to know how many people actually know where that is from.
Help! i cant find the book online!
Man... if it was only five or six days earlier I could have made it to the KISS expo because I'll be in New York from the 23rd to October 4th! Well... I'll be there in spirit.

Homework: made it through One For All once, when it first came out. Didn't make it through the second time. Haven't listened to it since.
you traitor
Very cool interview with Mark "Tall Man"
Best From Late Night With Johnny P Show
Great Guest, good background information of Peter Criss and loved Mark's comment "I gotta thin that fucker out" Love It !!
@Michael Brandvold - revisiting this after a few years - still as entertaining as the first time I heard it - I never could find the book but it seems like he touched on most of it - have you guys ever spoken to him again? Great show guys. Mark was an interesting guest and sheds more information on Peter.
Hope you guys still do Overrated/Underrated 90s/2000s Kiss!
where can i get that rock n roll over hat?
Hi Tommy, where did you get that cool Ace shirt? Its awsome!
I've gotten 3 songs into One For All and that's it. I can't stomach it. Having said that, I'd buy a new Peter album. I'll always buy anything the original four puts out, even if it turns out bad. I'm a nutty fan I guess. haha
Didn't Peter express only admiration for the "Tall Man" in his book "Make Up To Break up"?
SOOOOOOOO....What's the issue?.....Did Paul answer that question? Is there real psychological manipulation going on? I really hope that Peter has found true peace and companionship regardless of what was won, lost, or sailed never to be seen. That other stuff is not as important as his overall happiness. Please have Mark back!!
You guys are GREAT! 🤟😝
so gigi is the yoko to peter criss
Mark!
Mike, his frame of mind was cocaine. It was 1980 and he had everything but music at his fingertips. All that aside, he is the backbone of the KISS empire. Name 1 song any KISS fan would know that Eric Played/wrote, same with EricS :)
Huh? Backbone of the empire? OK if that works for you. I don't agree one bit. This isn't about Eric Singer it's about Peter. Focus!
Eric Carr - I love it loud , creatures of the night , lick it up , heavens on fire ,forever(top 10 hit) Eric Singer - god gave r&r ,domino - just to name a few that any kiss fan would know. Argent wrote God Gave Rock & Roll To You, not Eric Singer
But did Singer play on God Gave R&R to You?
1:49:00 Crazy Nights the best KISS album?! Are you insane!!!
Not insane at all. I know what I like and I wouldn't expect that you would like the same. I bet I don't like the same things you do.
To me Megadeth is crap, it's just screaming and playing as fast as possible. That's not music or talent to my ears.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
I think The Beatles are highly overrated BTW!
1:08:50 in an attempt to make themselves feel better
One of my favorite shows. Hated for it to end. Peter was always my favorite in the early years and inspired me to be a drummer. i love the "ALL FOR ONE" cd
it is pete in his own style... so therefore it is a good cd !!
Hey guys love the show!! I have a good idea for a episode! I don't know if you have done it yet but my idea is to discuss if kiss had come out in 74 without the make up would they have been successful? or had they been a new band in the 80s and there first album was lick it up would they have been another casualty of the 80s hair metal scene or would they have been a relevant band till this day!? just a thought let me know what you think!! cheers!
The half makeup album cover woulda been cool /iconic
It would be great to have two reunion albums. Not a tour just new great kiss music. One produced by Eddie Kramer the other Bob Ezrin. Then they could tour with whatever lineup. I can dream can't I?
Thumbs up from me!! AEROSMITH ALERT in the 119th minute!! Blue Kool-Aid Drinker. Peace out from the Southern Tip of Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada.
Best show this year.
About 1:11 the big guy goes to sleep!
Good show.
C Jericho v Mike Piazza episode? 😂
i love Crazy Nights! top 5 for sure
I stink.....he's coming on......
Great show as always guys. I guess what Paul and Gene( whoops I said their names) have been saying about Peter was true. Which is sad because I like his voice and his drum solos thought he brought a unique sound to KISS . Seems to me he does not love the fans or music like the other guys. Just my 2 cents.
Dude totally reminds me of Roger Meinz the dad of my friend Peter 😂
it's you
Rod Stewart screams like that tho
Send in the clowns hahahahah
Who’s lazier Vinnie or Peter? 😂
that album causes AIDS of the ears. Horrible record. Which is a shame?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
