I honestly felt the same way especially when he made those comments in 2016. However, once he met Donald Trump he totally changed. When he ran for the Senate in 2022 he publicly apologized for those comments and admitted he was wrong because he didn't know the man. He won his Senate race because he was backed by Donald Trump and has been a staunch supporter ever since.
Like him or not, he has proven to be very loyal to conservatives, he has kept his promises he campaigned on and he and Jim Jordan have done a phenomenal job representing the state of Ohio.

I've mentioned this a few times but think people are really not understanding the genius here. In the 48 Laws of Power, its stated that its better to employ enemies than friends, as enemies have nothing to prove and everything to gain, where as friends often betray you once they decide you're no longer useful (just look at what's happening with Biden). Its better to have a dude who will give it to him straight, than some brown noser who just pretends to support him to try and advance his own career.
