The word gig worker means, people who are working on the contract basis to meet their needs.
In the passage, the author wants to share the information about the bill which is based on the karnataka platform bill 2024. Before a decade an app base application came in which gig workers were allowed to work with their dignity and they did not follow any contract. But in reality they were not given their salaries and they were forced to work for a long time, in the lack of government support they had to live on the marcy of aggregators. According to NITI Ayog gig workers were 77 lakhs in numbers at the beginning of the decade. By 2029-30 they are expected to increase 4.1% of income and 6.7% of non- agricultural workforce.
