My motorbike was stolen in Manchester a few years ago. Cops found it the next day driven into a brick wall and completely destroyed. Rider was in critical condition...what a shame.
Agree with Jason’s comment and why waste money with a helicopter plus uniformed officers then hrs of police paperwork then some smart arse solicitor telling all sorts of nice stories about the criminal and getting paid to tell them for the judge to feel sorry for the criminal who is then back out to do it all again total waste of time.
What an absolute waste of everybody’s time. It costs thousands of pounds just for each flight the helicopter takes off. After all that waste of resources no one is charged with a crime. Something is very wrong with the justice system
Personally I feel that the good people of the UK should be able to tackle this problem, without the hassle of being dragged through the courts for carrying out their civic duty.

As far as I remember many of them are former RAF/Army/Navy pilots so joining at 18 (minimum age for pilots) and having to serve 10 years (unless discharged) means they could be as young as 28, that said you can become a police pilot with just a commercial Helicopter licence and 1500 hrs flight time (50 being at night)

The third teenager failed to show for his court date and the charges were dropped. Well isn't that nice of the courts. Here it earns you a bench warrant, no bail, and a rather miffed judge when they haul you in front of them.

I had my bike (RD400) nicked in 1984 I saw the guy as he rode off from a window at work. I phoned the cops and from my description of the scum they knew exactly who it was. I got the bike back 6 hours later with just a few scratches. He had 4 RD400s, same model as mine but different colours, exhausts, etc. He was aiming to make 1 special RD400 from other peoples bikes. He got 6 months in jail what amazed me was it was his 62nd offence 😳. Turned out he was also an ex boyfriend of one of mates girlfriends. He came out and carried on his thieving ways. Rumour was one day he nicked the wrong bike and ended up in hospital when the owner and his mates caught up with him 😉 Couldnt have happened to a bigger sack of dog poop.

I paid a deposit for a GPZ1000RX a 1986 model about 2005 in Birmingham UK , paid the deposit £500 and whent back to collect at the weekend , pulled onto the main road were the bike was and police everywhere , I asked them whats up ? They replied two 15 year old lads just stole a GPZ from that house and crashed 350 yards up the road , both died after hitting railings at 70 in tea shirts no helmets the cop said , yes it was my bike I was just about to collect , guy comes over and says I was warming it up on the drive when two kids jumped on it and shot off . they clipped a car and crashed , both lads had both arms ripped off and blead to death on the pavement , sad but tough ! Bike was destroyed but I got the cash back pmsl .....

@@peteconrad2077 They have a lot more freedom than you think, that's why folk get a verdict, then go to another court to appeal it because a better result is possible for them, a judge can be as lenient or as strict as they like even negotiate deals, many times judges have favoured someone unjustly and been disbarred for it.

I was walking down the roads few years ago and just looked down at my phone long enough to read half a text message. If I had looked up half a second later a moped coming down the pavement would have ran straight into me. These people must be stopped. Helmets or no helmets.
Especially if all they get is a slap on the wrist IF they bother to show up at court anyway. Justice system needs to be overhauled to make it worthwhile to catch.

It would be really interesting to see the police roll out drone tech for pursuit, you could have some sort of imaging method to match description and number plate and then the drone would just follow the person/vehicle until it stops, then the cops would have a mobile cctv aerial camera to just follow and not even bother chasing or driving. Those “mopeds” seem to be going VERY fast. Here mopeds can only go 35mph, otherwise its a motor cycle requiring a drivers license and an M endorsement requiring a separate test.

Police forces don't need to be using expensive to run and maintain helicopters. They should be using drones which are much less costly to run and maintain and just as efficient.

most are 125 or 250cc scooters, but the get landed with the title mopeds as a cover all
my 125cc moped can do 140km/h
