Saitama did something very impressive this episode and it wasn't destroying the meteor. At least that isn't what we should be most impressed with it is how he handeled all the lies and bullies around him. Rumors do spread in real life but when there is half truth mixed in people believe things even more easily than most realize. Even I didn't realize how easy some half truths spread and it resulted in me having a difficult time with some things lately. But this video was just what I needed to inspire me to rise above even when things look hopeless either in dangerous sense or a social sense. I saw this episode long ago and yet I think i am getting a lot more inspired now than before! Thank you for doing this reaction video and reminding me of some inspiration that I really really needed right now!

For as much as I like One Punch Man, one thing that irritates me is how/why none of the characters notice or question why a class s super-cyborg unabashedly calls a class c hero sensei...multiple times. Setting aside all the events Saitama gets involved in, I'd definitely be asking questions if I noticed a high-ranking hero willingly deferring to a low-ranking nobody.

This episode is where it finally sunk in for me what this story is trying to do. Up until now it has been playing a bit loose and silly with shonen anime tropes; the tropes are played straight, the in-universe characters dead serious, but whenever we look at them through Saitama's perspective, they seem absolutely ludicrous. The "hero" association is full of melodramatic, cartoonish pageantry, the likes of which you would never see from people who actually cared about "doing the right thing" and "keeping people safe". The Tank Top brothers were spitting straight-up propaganda! They were lying with the intent to manipulate! And it worked! .... THESE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HEROES. I think Genos is meant to be the audience surrogate, and when he started penning a thesis on Saitama's simple wisdom, that was to clue us in: very few of these "heroes" are actual heroes. Most have un-heroic ambitions or influences. But, because they exist in this hyper-exaggerated shonen world, they can't fix that. They must be locked into the tropes they were assigned. Saitama has broken the mold. He can see these things for what they are. He can tell Genos to speed up his backstory. He doesn't do that stupid Naruto Run. He is only briefly put off by the Tank Top bros' childish antics, but once Genos reminds him that it's not worth it (a lesson Genos had been internalizing throughout the episode), he immediately snaps back. This anime has so much going for it: crazy OST, amazing animation, diverse cast of characters, unique and interesting MC, all while being a loving satire of stereotypical shonen tropes. But then it goes one further, and asks you to question what it means to be a hero. The best is yet to come. ........ well, okay, that's a bit subjective; some people still hold the Genos fight to be top tier (and for good reason), but... well, whatever; you'll see.
This, this and this. Its so easy to see OPM as just a silly parody of the silly shonen, anime, and videogame tropes we see everywhere; it actually has a lot to say about what a real hero is, what his motivations look like, and why we should care while still being a silly parody of all of it. Once the moulde comes off and you see what is really being made, its a heartwarming message on heroism and respect. For me it really hits hardest just after the deep sea king and the finale is just icing, but its poetic how it was all constructed in season 1. That deeper soul makes OPM one of my all-time greats.
