    I just did this to my HB Mm85a and I have to say I didnt get any drop in volume (compared to active mode with pots centred).
    I taped up put the high boost/cut pot and put it at the back of the cavity. I put the active passive switch where the high pot was on the control plate. (I didn't want to drill holes or modify the body until I heard what it sounded like)
    Thank you for giving me the confidence to try this mod 🤘

      Great! As for my bass, I didn't use active mod for about year and even want to get rid of the preamp and add a regular tone pot.

      @@silvansky it still sounds brilliant without the preamp 👍
      I use multi effects pedals and use a tone control on there 🤘

      @@shaunstephen9761 I also use lots of FX on bass, but I love to have tone control available under my hand. Use it very often on my guitars. =)

    Nice :)
    I have this Bass too, really enjoying it.
    I think I would rather get rid of the Volume Pot than having this switch at the back. Or better yet, enlarge the cavity to have the Push/Pull ;)

      That's just an experiment. =)
      I wanted to try this bass in passive mode and I think I like it more than active one. Now I plan to remove preamp and boom - there are three slots for all kinds of switches free! Well, at least two, because I'm gonna add tone knob.

      @@silvansky It's always fun to experiment :)
      I tried one of these very cheap 3-band pre-amp from Aliexpress on my other Harley Benton, the PB-20 SBK, and made a very special (and weird) pickguard with 4 pots + 1 jack 😂
      Then I removed that really bad pre-amp for a simple set of EMG P active ones ;)
      I'm quite pleased with the sound of the MM-85A, maybe just a bit too dark , but I use that aspect for specific songs and styles.
      If anything, I'm just a bit annoyed by the lack of noise canceling when having these humbuckers in Jazz Bass mode ; split.
      Can't really mess around with expensive instruments, so ...

    Hi, could you tell me how to recognize input and output wires going out of preamp? Which ones?
    I also thought about making passive electronic conversion, does anyone Has some diagram how should it look like?

      I just followed all the wires from the preamp to their origin and found what I needed. Two wires for each EQ pot, ground, in and out. As far as I remember, the output goes to volume pot.
      To make a total passive conversion you need to remove the preamp and three EQ pots, add one tone pot and wire it with a regular vol/tone diagram.

    What kind of switch did you buy ?

    • @silvansky
      @silvansky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      DPDT on-off switch.

    I can't tell the difference between active and passive mode.

      The main difference is in signal level. Unless you change eq settings in active mode. :)
      And the other thing is that preamp catches radio in my flat. See my latest video: when I turn it off, radio disappears.

    Why is that huge switch on the back?

    • @silvansky
      @silvansky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the cavity is too small and contains too much wires and it would be too hard to add the switch to the metal panel. And push-pull does not fit to the cavity.
