I sometimes will take my cheap perfumes that don’t last and use them as air fresheners or sometimes linen sprays. I like your idea of a body mist after the shower. 🥰💖

My favorite aspect of perfume is how subjective it is, and because of that I even love listening to people hate fragrances. It helps me understand how my taste compares with another’s, as much as hearing rave reviews would, and scent preference is in no way indicative of individual worth. Fragrance is a topic where we can have polarized and opposing opinions without resentment, and that’s wonderful to me 13:36

Man you nailed it on all the ones I am familiar with. Call them out- It's SO sad that too many of our corporations really hate us and only love our money. Not all of these perfumes fall into that category obviously. You did a good job of saying that, and also highlighting what the up sides are to all of these perfumes if there are any.

Hi Sarah, there are so many perfumes I will not repurchase because I know the ingredients are no longer the quality they once were. It is so devastating to see these once quality perfumes reduced to synthetic rubbish. I was recently gifted a perfume stash from the 90’s and wow what a difference when you compare to todays formulations. Not only were the perfumes still in great condition but they lasted forever during wear. Perfumes were Pleasues, Knowing, Gucci Envy, Poison, Lou Lou, Diorissimo, Jadore, Chanel no 5, YSL Paris, Chloe Largerfeld, Byzance and Anais Anais. Some of these are still sold today but either smell nothing like the original or are a shadow of the original that doesn’t last. Jadore was the biggest shock to me after smelling the original. I’d like to see a list from your collection of scents that have been altered so much they are not worth repurchasing.

Sarah, I’m so glad that you made this video! I was going to purchase the Gucci one next month. I don’t have any of the others but I appreciate knowing about their performance. Since I’ve become a old lady I’m having a hard time with fragrances lasting on me more than a minute and it’s very frustrating. I’ve done all the tips to make the fragrance last longer to no avail. I always spray the inside of my hoodies(I’m a hoodie freak)especially the head part plus I spray a cotton ball with several sprays on it and put it in my cleavage. You would think I would knock a room out with that trick but not on me! I will get 1-2 hours tops with that trick plus I’m doing some heavy spraying all over my body. I love fragrances so much so I keep trying to see if I can find some that will last on me. I so enjoyed this video and looking forward to the next one😊❤️💐❤️
Ooops I do have 3 of the Jennifer Anniston fragrances. They came in a set of 3 rollerballs. All 3 smelled so darn good but couldn’t smell anything after15 minutes😩😩

I agree. 🙏 Gucci is a shady af company so I’m not surprised about the plastic handbags🙄and the materials they use for their perfumes. Prada Candy is the most soulless perfume I’ve ever smelled, it’s like spraying on sugared alcohol. 😆But Kilian is even worse, they charge at least $200 for one of their scents and it will not last you even two hours. I’ve tested multiple Kilians and have not purchased a single one. Its just not worth it.💕

I love your disclaimer! I'm consistently appalled by how easily derailed people are, and how scathingly mean they become. Especially over something as wildly subjective as fragrance. I love certain things that are admittedly junk (I have a big B&BW stash...for instance), but I don’t emotionally yoke myself to them in the way some people do with their scents. It's just...bizarre. They take it as a personal affront...like, dude, you are NOT your perfume! 😂

I don’t have a lot of experience with Gucci fragrances, but I do love Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur and I think it has got to be the most beautiful bottle in my collection. It’s apparently super polarizing, though. I’ve seen some REALLY impassioned hatred for it in fragrance groups. Their high end perfumes, like from the Gucci Garden collection are SO expensive. I wonder if the quality is any better than their more mass produced ones? I’ve def learned through experience that price does not always correlate with quality. I also don’t think that quality is necessarily correlated with performance. I’ve got very low quality perfumes that are nuclear, and very high quality perfumes that are gone from skin fairly quickly. But it’s obviously a complex matter and there are a lot of variables that determine how a fragrance will perform. Thanks for your honesty!

  • @pinki3dt

Off topic, You look so pretty. On the perfume note, So many perfumes are such bad quality anymore. I am a perfume junky. One of my all time favorites was coty wild musk. I would have picked that over all my expensive perfumes. I won’t even buy it anymore. I’m so disappointed over the poor quality. When I wore that,no matter where I went, someone stopped me and asked what I was wearing. It was beautiful. Now, literally, you spray it and there is five seconds of fragrance and that’s it. It doesn’t stay on at all. I never found anything to come close to that beautiful smell. Any suggestions? I’m a musk lover.

Sublime Vanille by Creed is a double heartbreaker. Not only is it exorbitantly priced, it is woefully inadequate performance wise.
I have a branded sample and it lasts on me about an hour. I tried it on my husband to see if it was just a problem with my skin chemistry, but I couldn't smell it at all on him after about 30-40 minutes!
It is absolutely exquisite but is entirely substandard in its performance, even if it cost a quarter of what they charge.
It is no wonder some folk refer to the company as Greed rather than Creed.

It looks like they are based in the United States. I am in Scotland, and I am disinclined to order from abroad because of custom charges and also the potential difficulty of trying to deal with returns.
I have tried an oil dupe from a business here in the UK, AW Scents, but it is not as close as I would have hoped. While the dry down stage is reasonably similar, the opening is not to my liking and has a strange, green/herbal note that is definitely not present in the original.

The next evening, I was sitting in the bath and kept getting wafts of something horrendous and sickly. I lifted and sniffed every single bottle sitting around the bath, thinking something had gone off. It was only when I was drying myself that I noticed the cardigan I had taken off and sat on top of the clothes airer when I was washing off the tiny amount of Soft I had applied. That little bit of transfer onto the sleeve of that cardigan was stinking up the whole bathroom in the steamy heat from my bath!

I have a bunch of Pacifica perfumes. They're a pretty clean brand, I've never felt nauseated or had a sneezing fit from their frags. But I did hear the founder's admitted to using synthetics, although I can't be bothered to search for the interview when my interest in Pacifica has declined over the years. Persian Rose has great projection and lasts a while on me, smells like real damask rose absolute. I can't speak on French Lilac or Tahitian Gardenia since I don't own those, but they probably use real absolutes too. The original Dream Moon lasts a good 4-6 hours on me, but I think that's because it's very base note heavy (lots of patchouli and sandalwood). Pacifica have been reformulating some of their frags, and judging from the reviews on their official website, they messed up pretty badly and people don't like the new formulas. Most of their frags are best treated as body sprays. I'm not planning on repurchasing any of them.

  • @girlonsoapbox

I enjoyed this video discussion. My critique on the big designer houses is they have diluted the quality of there perfumes because they understand now there is a fragcom and they know many people will purchase some of these poor quality perfumes just to belong . As well the special lines that some houses sell for exorbitant prices the quality they offer used to be the quality of their regular store lines. I have bought fragrances from the 90s and they can pass for niche or like the Privé line of a mainstream house. I enjoy perfumes but even if I enjoy a scent I would not buy it if it fades after 3 hrs on my skin mainly because a US $100.00 perfume is really $700 of my currency and that is some folks salary for a week. So I take all aspects of shopping for a fragrance seriously especially since we don't get samples or have easy access to decants. Its fun but I approach it sober mindedly.

Meow is, agreeably, not an expensive smelling perfume but I love it - it's a sweet treat that I tend to wear around the house when I want something cozy and cute to wear. I agree with you that neither one is made with expensive ingredients but that is very much reflected in their cost. There's many other things happening right now in the world to get upset about. I couldn't agree with you more about the Happy line. Water is more fragrant. And the LaRive line... I've almost blind bought some of them many times but felt like they'd perform like trash. And someone commented that they enjoy videos like this because of how subjective perfume is. I completely agree! Great video, thank you!! Edit: Gucci, 💯 agree with you. I know you're not a peach girl but I love Rush, it was an old sig of mine and I bought a cassette (😆) of it 2 years ago and it was definitely reformulated. It was terrible. I do not like Gucci even in the slightest, I ended up selling my bottle of Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme because the first few hours smelled extremely synthetic on my skin. I was ultimately holding on to it because I liked the drydown but that's not enough for me to enjoy a scent. I create many of my own scents by mixing essential oils with witch-hazel+water (or a dash of vodka at times). People always stop me to ask what I'm wearing and it invariably turns into an interesting conversation.

The only ‘clean’ brand I’ve tried that performs well for me is Floral Street - I have several bottles and they all do well. I heard Henry Rose does pretty well too though haven’t tried them yet. For truly clean perfumes oil is best.

When my ski gets irritated with mainstream perfumes I wear Pacifica for a bit - the older collection - the newer ones don’t last at all on me.

I like the idea of this video! People really need to chill. It's perfume, not world peace. You'd think you said someone's baby was ugly, LOL. Don't worry about those comments. I don't have any of the ones you showed here, thought about La Rive Pearl at one time, but the reviews weren't stellar and I quit buying La Rive because none of them really last except maybe Fleur de Femme, the cherry one. I haven't purchased fragrance in a bit, but I just bought a decently priced tester bottle of Jimmy Choo Fever. I had a multi pack of samples of that one and I adore it. I don't think it lasts all day or anything, but it's delicious smelling and can be paired with a lot of the B&BW body creams I usually purchase. Hope you and the family are doing well in your living situation and a new home is getting closer on the horizon for you, Sarah. ~Cynthia

I've tried a few Pacifica frags and didn't have much luck with either smell or lasting power so I won't try them again. And My Happy lasts about an hour. Bummer.

I was told that "clean" perfumes don't last because they don't have phthalates in their formulation. Phthalates are chemicals associated with cancer, hormonal issues and infertility, but they are also responsible for making a fragrance last. Have you ever tried the Malibu ones by Pamela Anderson? There's a Malibu Day and a Malibu Night. They're (supposedly) 100% natural ingredients, vegan, cruelty free and all that jazz. I actually like them both, though Night lasts a little bit longer on my skin.

@@SarahMayes Malibu Day (blue one) is very beachy and fun, Malibu Night (pink ) reminds me of Coco Mad but it has some chocolate nuances. Advice: let the night one settle down before you judge it, at first spray it can be a little weird.

The only brand/fragrance that I own on this list is Skylar...I own 4 full-sized bottles: Willow Woods, Vanilla Sky, Indigo Valley and Peach Fields...I'm looking forward to them releasing the full sized sized bottle of Boardwalk Delight here very soon (their cotton candy fragrance) - as my beef with them is they often only release certain fragrances in travel sizes - and their travel size are rollerballs and not sprays! I can agree they aren't the longest lasting but I get 4-5 hours on my skin and I will say - I use them a lot for layering. So, if I want to amp up vanilla or coffee - I'll layer Vanilla Sky (i have even put vanilla sky with cacharel yes i am delicious) or if I want a blueberry note to a gourmand or fruity fragrance I'll layer Indigo Valley etc. So, I mean...I get your gripe with them but I don't think they are the worst offenders out there...Thanks for warning us about some of these. xoxo

Actually the LV classic monogram coated canvas has always been what they have used for their bags and luggage. They have never hidden this fact, and the reality is that the coated canvas is more durable and longer lasting than the leather that the handles and pipping is made from. I have vintage LV from the 80’s than I have had to replace the leather handles but the coated canvas is in perfect condition ❤

    • @sarahw5906
      @sarahw5906 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I agree, the coated canvas is actually the way to go if you're going to buy an LV. And this was never a secret, more like people assumed due to their price that they were all leather (which is a logical assumption to make tbh). I have a couple of their vintage canvas bags from the early 80's and the leather trim has seen better days but the canvas is still stunning!

    • @SarahMayes

Which is great but they have been leading people to believe that they are buying leather bags all of these years and charging exorbitant amounts of money for a logo.

    • @sweetox_9690

@@SarahMayesI repectfully disagree. I don't believe they misled anyone ever. It says in the product description what you're buying. Sales associates don't keep it a secret. LV has always used coated canvas since the brand started. Anyone familiar with the brand is aware of this. And I mean they sell plenty of comeplete leather bags too. Its just a option and a preference. Anyway, we have digressed.....Back to the perfumes! : )
