No…this is a well documented historical incident. Lord Byron Moinehahn ( the man in the foreground ) insulted Frederick Likkolsen’s wife, calling her a “ homely looking mutton puncher that even an orangutan would find revolting”. This infuriated Mr Likkolsen, and rightfully so. The two men met on the park just outside of Lord Moinehahns estate in upstate New York on February 19th, 1923. What you saw was the original documented footage of the last legal duel in the state of New York. Doctor Phillip Pansenpot, and Daniel Hopendalzwyck suffered mortal wounds. Alice Meeninguld ( not seen in the footage ) and Judge Alexander Swetcherin were wounded but survived the day. A total of 4 geese were also killed, along with a dog which no one claimed as their own. If you go visit the nearby town of Oswego, NY, there’s a bronze statue in memorial of the no-named dog that was killed.
The extra twist at the end when the spectators get up and cheer, after their successful plan to give the rivals guns loaded with blanks so that they would be relieved and set aside their differences when both were still standing
very funny, after experienced the near death feeling first hand, those two opponent grew so much closer.. and happily set off together.. probably to be patrons of nearest pub.. and all those witnesses are safe and sound.. well, probably this stint of mocked and tampered duel actually it were those gentlemen who had orchestrated it from the get go..
This isn't a Charlie Chaplin skit. Firstly, the film is from Denmark, Secondly, Chaplin made his first film in 1914 and thirdly, IT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE HIM!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like to imagine they're related together as a friends, and there is 2 madlad try to prove them self so they have no choice to act and calm these hot head 😂😂
What exactly was the critique of the duelist in this film? I see comedy in the form of slapstick, using the duelists as motif not subject. Frankly, dueling was and still is a dignified means by which a person was granted the right to remedy that which law failed to do so amicably. It required both parties to be in agreement, had rules and procedures overseen by each duelists' second (representative/trusted partner) and only resulted in serious injury/fatalities 1 out of 6 duels (so claimed by the prominent advocates at the time). And most importantly, it was fair and kept a man's fate where it belonged, in his own hands. A duel wasn't legal unless all involved agree to each other's terms of engagement.
@@JacksonHansen-r2h You don't know too much about history. Duels became forbidden by law and justice had big dificulties to abolish it. Humor was and is a strong tactic to awake awareness. Get informed before you talk something you don't have any idea.
@danijuggernaut False. All I got to was "the justices had" and knew immediately you weren't talking about anything you had any knowledge about. I take it your Indian/Pakistani?
Of what? Duels were legal, death by gunshot per capita was dramatically lower during those times... the lethality of weapons and ease of access present today make for an interesting roll of the dice. I'd take my odds back then before I'd choose today's indentured servitude to a state empowered to decide everything of worth and importance, who literally doesn't give two damns about out dignity as either a nation or individual.
Jokes aside, lethal duels were sooo dumb. I don't know why they didn't just fist fight. With certain handicaps etc.. to account for difference in age and/or size.
This was hysterical. Even the birds falling out of the sky when they shot in the air! 😂
Lethality of each shot was 100%. Accuracy though ...
I was so focused on the actors, I did know that!
I just noticed that, 😆,
This is a chaplain movie 😂
When I search real duels, I don’t want this lol
Yeah I caught the stache and instantly knew who it was and I was born is 2004 funny enough
there are no real duels in video.
what level of ADD do you have that your specifically searching for duals before 1910
You should seek satisfaction then
Chaplin
Wow what a great skit!! Way ahead of its time
Perfect object lesson of why it's NOT wise to get in the middle of 2 fools fighting.

Could be propaganda film to abolish duelist. It was a problem in modern society, people still defend their honor with deadly fights.
Lol It’s obviously a comedy piece 😂
