The BMW Generation E38 is the third generation of the BMW 7 Series luxury cars and was produced from 1994 to 2001. The E38 replaced the E32 7 Series and was produced with petrol and turbo-diesel straight-six and V8 engines, along with a petrol V12 flagship model. Three wheelbase lengths were available - short (i), long (iL) and Limousine (L7).

Really beautiful car. It was an exciting time when BMW actually cared about the design of their vehicles. I miss seeing this car on the roads. I am sure many also remember the E38's appearance in the Bond film, "Tomorrow Never Dies".
I owned a v8 730i for seventeen years and I got it up to 252’000 miles before I gave up driving.
And quality.
I own a very old '96 725tds, for almost 15 years now, it still is a superb car and very imponent
best looking 7 series ever!
Now this is the real Masterpiece. And always will be.

That generation of BMWs in 1970s 80s were the best , so reliable, fun to drive ,an absolute joy to own and drive . Now especially after 2005 a money pit ,more biodegradable plastics than in my blue recycle bin .

You obviously don't know your BMWs. This generation is late 90s to early 2000s
The e38 is a money pit as well, but not as much expensive to maintain as an e65, but much better looking

I loved this design and still do. Very classy and sophisticated.
It doesnt matter it has 2.8 or 5.0 engine. Its still a legend, its still e38. Classic.

Got one. 750il. Few more Kay's on her than your nice white example there. 2 phones on cables. GPS before satellites. Electric pop up privacy screens in back. Double glazed glass. V12 a bit over 300hp. Goes all right for an old girl. Very smooth.

Hbear06.......I also have a 750il. All black with Schnitzler rims. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. High milage but what a ride. Collect extra parts, whenever I see one, at the wrecking yards which is RARE. Also have the classic e39 (2003). Both are head turners.

My first car. A 1996 E38 730iA small displacement V8. Right hand drive. Bought it with my first bonus. Completely the wrong car to have in the middle of London W1 but God I loved that car.
When you see the super cars going around I don’t think it matters. ULEZ killed off my BMW E60 last year :(
My 1st car was a 1977 'Reg' Ford escort mk 2 in 1991 in Northampton....it had a choke on it....😂😂😂, old skool style.
I drove the same model as well when it came out new in 1994. The car was great but the 3.0 V8 was underpowered when it was driven uphills. Permanently fighting with kick down to shift back gears because of lack of torque. I am not a fan of kick down. It requires a lot of torque to avoid this annoying kick down scenario. That's why I much prefer the 4.4 V8 or 750i V12. Anyway the E38 and E39 are one of the best cars ever built 👍

Diesel ou essence, cette génération est un monument de l'automobile et mérite une attention particulière même pour son age. La qualité de fabrication et l’équipement proposé (beaucoup plus complet que celle présenté ici, mais c'est un bon début :) ) donnent ici un exemple en très bon état de cette génération. On notera une quantité énormes d'options qui rendent chaque voiture unique par le choix de leur propriétaire. Avoir un véhicule de ce type entre ses mains, c'est l'adopter. Une salutation des plus amicale et du courage pour les garder avec vous! C'est une valeur sure.

I have one with less than 18k miles e38 740il black on black I picked up to flip but fell in love with it and now it stays in a heated garage next to my RX7

Had a 97 740iL loved that car have a F10 and a E36 and E46 but miss my 7 very much looks power and the best riding car I’ve ever had. Great video

Was the car stored outside for its life?
The antenna looks sun damaged, the paint looks odd, the detail job on it wasnt very good. But still its quite immaculate
This looks used, even my 80k 740il has better cluster condition and no dead pixels
The antenna looks like they got car wax on it while washing the car, and the rubber is dried out a bit which is usually easy to remedy. The cluster looks like the LCD leaked which happens on old displays even unused, albeit pathetic quality. Dirty wheels just means lazy car wash detailers, hardly a concern.

That’s a lot of car to have the 2.8 liter move around. I hav the 740i. Thought about a 750i but the V12 is a whole different engine. Incredibly reliable and durable as long as the money is invested.
Well the 750i isn't really that much faster than a 740i and the 4-liter V8 is more than adequate to drive that car
@@paranoiddaydreamer4370 no one is referring to speed. It’s the reliability of the engine that makes it attractive as far as BMW engines go. It’s been likened to two inline 6 engines put together. The 4.4 liter is a poorly designed engine. Metal on plastic? Ridiculous. With enough attention you might get a lifetime if use out of it. For me an E38 has nothing to do with speed. That’s a boy’s interest for such a vehicle. I’d happily take a 2.8 in it over a 4.4 any day.

The only flaw in these would be the dashboard cluster that becomes unsoldered which displays the text and km. Other than that, flawless.

Perplexing logic - 20 years ago someone decided to time capsule a car and picked the cheapest lowest spec BMW 7-series they could find with minimal options - why wouldn't you do this to a fully loaded 750il?!
Technically, a 728Li is way more scarce than a 750Li. So this does make sense in some twisted-30-years-into-the-future-millionaire’s-car collection. But nowadays, it’s still the cheapest by far.
Agree, its a poverty-spec 1998, not something special like a 2001 740i Sport in Imola Rot or a 750 iL. Can't imagine what its like having an I6 lug that beast around. Plus, how long will its new owner be able to enjoy driving it before all the leaks and gremlins come out from sitting un-driven for so long?

I had a 740il and indeed it drives beautiful. But once I hit 90k it started giving me a lot of electrical problems. It was a nightmare. I spend waayyy to much money just to keep it running and so I got rid of it.
I own 740il 2001 i bought it with 231k miles and its been few months i haven’t spent a penny in it

This is when BMWs were a high quality and understated masterpiece. Now they're just poorly built and poorly designed and driven by every one and their dog with a lease payment.
Just like Mercedes / Range Rover, etc. All watered down throw away vehicles for those with tons and tons of debt.
