  • Dickie Henderson Show 1971. Dickie and Arthur were great friends and you can see the affection they have for each other in this clip. They performed together many times on stage and in Pantomime. Arthur Askey's daughter, Anthea, was Dickie's first 'television wife' in the Dickie Henderson Half Hour sketch show which was broadcast in the 1950s.

I used to keep Mr Askey company in St Thomas Hospital, London whilst he was poorly. He was still cracking jokes even though he was unwell.

Seems like he was a real 'gentleman' in the true sense of the word. RIP our Arthur.

I met Dickie Henderson at a charity event in my home town Bexhill. He gave me his autograph. Always smiling. A gentleman.

Dickie Henderson, I never realised he was so cool, a match for anything they had in America. Easy to watch, entertaining and extremely talented.

I worked with Dickie Henderson at the Metropole Hotel Brighton, in about 1978/9.Didn't speak to him much, but was a very classy man.

Nice to see that Word Entertainment that filled the TV through The 60s and 70s.

I’m glad I grew up in these times
Looking back we only had the BBC and ITV and the audience numbers were so high 10 million plus
A time when you could laugh
      No smutty jokes or swearing

So much wonderful entertainment came out of the ATV Elstree studios. Can you post the whole shows?

Unfortunately not - I only have a few clips. Very few tapes now remain because the tapes were wiped and reused. Lost forever (:

@@matthewhenderson3629 That is indeed very sad, Matthew, so much wonderful material gone. But thank you for taking the trouble to reply, and for putting online the clips you have so that we can all appreciate what a great entertainer your Dad was.
