  • 21st October 2021 - Thanks to all my TH-cam viewers for making this video the most watched over the time my Channel has been running. Also to viewers in a particular Scandinavian country:
    Hej och tack till mina tittare i Sverige ... heja Drew (och Helga)
    The Nene Valley Railway (NVR) is a preserved railway in Cambridgeshire, England, running between Peterborough Nene Valley and Yarwell Junction. The line is 7.5 miles (12.1 km) in length. There are stations at each terminus, and three stops en route: Orton Mere, Overton (Ferry Meadows) and Wansford (NVR Headquarters).
    (Wikipedia) (Ed.)
    This video was taken one Sunday in November, at this time a winter schedule was in operation and there were no steam trains timetabled. The Swedish Railcar No.1212 Helga was the motive power for the day. As well as some heritage British rolling stock the railway has a number of European carriages and locomotives. NVR acquired the larger gauge European stock in the late 1970's and after station platforms were altered slightly and one bridge demolished allowing the wider gauge continental stock to operate public services could begin.
    (Ed.)
    There are a number of interesting places to visit along the line including the Nene Regional Park accessible from Orton Mere and Peterborough NVR, a model railway in a carriage at Wansford, the villages of Yarwell and Nassington from Yarwell, and one of the few cars from the defunct Hovertrain RTV31 project displayed on a section of it's track adjacent to Peterborough NVR Station, and at Overton (for Ferry Meadows) the Country Park entrance and miniature railway are only a few steps away.
    (Ed.) ( NVR)

    it's a bold move claiming the NVR is better than all other UK steam railways

    • @DrewsRailwayWorld
      @DrewsRailwayWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt, thanks for your comment, indeed that would be bold, and I wouldn't claim it, however, the NVR does. The text was taken verbatim from nvr.org.uk/article.php/4, in the 'About Us' section of the "Nene Valley Railway Ltd" website. I saw no reason to question the claim because it was from the horse's mouth so to speak, however, your comment prompted me to reread the text, I quote "Nene Valley Railway is the UK’s leading international steam attraction...", the emphasis being on "leading international steam ...", having researched the history of the line from it's inception for the video, they explain the problems they had in finding viable British steam locomotives, and they found the best option for their start up was to acquire locomotives (from Poland, France, Germany etc.) and subsequently carriages from European sources (Wagon-lit etc.). Furthermore, in the NVR's defence, in saying "leading" they are not claiming to be the "best/ better" they are claiming to be in a unique (leading) position amongst other heritage railways in having the most eclectic collection of international rolling stock. From my memory I think the Kent and East Sussex Railway also have some continental stock but not to the same extent. Thanks again for your interest in my channel and your comment. Cheers Drew

    hi.
    great video....was this line originally one of beechings victims?

    • @DrewsRailwayWorld
      @DrewsRailwayWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Antony, thanks for watching, you're right and it was one of the last lines to close during that infamous Beeching era, passenger services to Northampton and Rugby having ceased in 1964 and 1966 respectively, but it remained open until 1972 for freight traffic only. It has quite an interesting history. Between 1900 and the 1960s, the line formed an important connection from Norwich, Cambridge and eastern England to Northampton and the Midlands. The line was generally acknowledged to be a secondary main line and frequently saw large engines such as Black 5s and B1s. In earlier times, 1884 to be precise there was even a visit from a 'Royal Train' on it's way to Barnwell Manor, the home of the Duke of Gloucester. Thanks for your comment.... @@ANTONYTHEDRAWINGMAN Thank you so much for your kind words. Ever since my early childhood I have held a fascination with everything railway working on BR as my very first job. It is interesting that in the Beeching era it was decided to axe so many regional lines, some of course would not have survived anyway, with so much duplication and redundancy did the government have any choice. I don't know the answer to my rhetorical question but perhaps we could have hoped for more foresight and rationality in developing a plan for the railway's future. As it is we having been playing catch up ever since. ....Drew

    Great video except for the background music. Train videos should not contain background music whatsoever.

      Hi, thanks for your comment, sorry the music track wasn't for you, we will have to agree to not agree on whether music belongs in train videos, but your point of view is noted... cheers Drew

      @@DrewsRailwayWorld It's not a case of whether music belongs in a railway video or not. Apart from being monotonous it is drowning out the sound of the railcar which should be audible above the music.

    • @DrewsRailwayWorld
      @DrewsRailwayWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @UK Heritage Railways Hi, thanks for your comment. I was directly answering the comment you are replying to and answered appropriately. in the post production how a soundtrack is presented and how the audio levels are set is all according to the quality of the original live sound, the live sound in this case was not good enough to be leveled above the added music track. Making a video is a creative process requiring many different choices from the media available, I do not have the luxury of an expensive audio suite or audio software, added to this is that the 'raw' sound is from a monophonic source so adjusting right left channels will have no effect. This particular video also included audio were I deemed it would be inappropriate to include the conversations clearly audible and which did not add any pertinent information to the vision. As a creator I am guided by feedback from the viewers, this video rates amongst the most popular on the channel with in excess 5k views. At the end of the day it is a choice made with all the elements in mind and the overall present-ability of the end product, is it perfect, no, is the music right ?( Royalty free limits choices), for me as the creator it is not perfect but it fits with my interpretation of the vision (It is my video and sound). Could I have done better, well given that it was a one day shoot, in late October with no option of revisiting until at least 2022, I think it is the best I could have hoped for. Next time I visit I will go armed with yours and others comments, thanks again for your contribution. ...Drew
      PS, in fact if you ride in the rail-car there is very little engine or other ambient 'rail-car' sounds, and given 95% of the video is inside there you have it.

    • @UKHeritageRailways
      @UKHeritageRailways 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrewsRailwayWorld Drew, this was not intended as an attack on your video, just an observation. I get that the live sound was not up to par. All my shoots are one day averaging four to five hours, the last one being on the 12th of December.
      The main problem with the music choice, apart from being monotonous, is that it doesn't really fit the visuals.
      As to available music, maybe do what I do. For royalty free music I have a subscription with Epidemic Sound giving me a huge choice for only £10 a month

    Why the blasted music?

    • @DrewsRailwayWorld
      @DrewsRailwayWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry you find it unpleasant, as a TH-cam creator the choice of music comes down to what I believe suits the vision, I can't recall what the original audio was like, it may be that it was poor. However, it is your prerogative to dislike it, you could also choose to use the mute option. I thank you for the comment and for sharing your opinion,...... Drew
