Florida is too cheap to invest in its own employees.
FDOC needs 20k officers to properly staff all facilities. Not 18k.
FHP needs 3600 troopers to properly patrol Florida’s state highways. Not 1800.
FWC needs 2400+ officers to properly enforce Florida wildlife laws and state parks. Not the barely 1000 officers currently employed.
All three agencies make less than $40k per year.
Compared to the local counties in some places where the starting pay is $60k or more. It’s a no brainer.

It really is ludicrous how low FDOC is paid. Florida is not a cheap state and making less than $40k a year in Florida as a CO is disgraceful.

Florida should hire all the unvaccinated workers who were fired from blue states. However, those people can't necessarily afford to move there.

Exactly! A starting CO in Massachusetts makes $68,000. Lots of overtime, you make $90K easy. Thats the problem. Florida doesnt pay public servants well. I would move to a better paying job ASAP if I worked for Florida DOC

Why is the American economy so reliant on Prison for their incomes.Surely theres a way to boost their economy other ways. The U.S relies too much on punitive profits. Its Sad and DISCUSTING ❤

It's not about jobs it's about the loss of the free prison slave labor ,without inmates these towns have nothing!!

Pretty much, one of the things ive always hated about my home is the damn for-profit prisons, all those little towns around Gainsville are prison towns where most of the jobs are prison related its depressing. Police in North Florida are so damn aggressive, they love harassing people
