The display on the x-sense is cool, looks like it might be hard to see once the device is installed on the ceiling. I did just purchase three X-sense CO alarms. An employee at a large cryogenics company I worked for had a natural gas leak in their home and his whole family perished.
The way to protect yourself against gas leaks (combustible gases like propane and natural gas) is to get a combustible gas alarm. A co alarm will only detect carbon monoxide.
NOT at all clear that X-Sense is actually UL Listed... Their website claims they "Meet" the UL Standard, but this is NOT the same as being UL Listed. As of 11/11/2024 I'm trying to get some clarity on this. IMO X-Sense has some really neat feature sets, but if NOT UL (or ETL) Listed, this is a big RED FLAG.
How has the testing of the X-Sense been going? I'm looking to buy the X-Sense XP02-WR for its Interconnected and Voice features telling you where the alert originated, but then I saw a guy on TH-cam compare X-Sense and Kidde and the X-Sense seemed to perform poorly, with a delay in alerting on smoke up to 65 seconds and sometimes not at all whereas the Kidde alerted in 10 seconds each time. What are your thoughts on the X-Sense today? Here is a link to that video. th-cam.com/video/iKOWYyNyHh0/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUQeC1zZW5zZSB2cyBraWRkZQ%3D%3D
I’ve had the worst experiences with First Alert. Both smoke and the combos. Every single one that’s I’ve had goes off constantly for no reason. And I don’t mean the CO detector one either. I mean their smoke only systems have been brand new out of the box and within a couple of months of having them they start to go nuts and won’t stop. It’s gotten so bad that I’ve had to remove them pretty often. Not a good feeling when it’s your house and your family you’re trying to protect. Basically what brought me here and now that I hear you say Kidde is part of first alert I am glad I didn’t purchase them. I do have 2 Kidde alarms in my house and those are the only 2 that have never given me an issue thank god. Something is better than nothing. I’ll keep looking though
Yes, this is becoming very common with smoke detectors these days. The design life of home smoke detectors is 10 years, after which every manufacturer I've seen specifies replacement. Newer detectors offer a 10 year lithium battery, negating the need for periodic maintenance / battery replacement. It reduces maintenance and is very helpful for many people, particularly those unable to do the periodic battery changes (elderly, etc.)
This was not helpful for me at all. He is explaining why the X-Sense is better which makes sense but then he chooses the one that lacks the main feature!
I have autism and don’t like any that scream or make noise if they blink doesn’t bother me at least there quite or don’t make a any noise or small amounts of noise if they scream a lot I have anxiety and sleep issues
Must concur with the other replies, you may not wake up to a strobe light & your life is the most important.! In my experience quality / UL or ETL listed alarms alarms VERY rarely "False Alarm" I've had a wireless interlink home system since about 2006 (retired / replaced detectors as they aged out, etc.) with only about 2-3 true False Alarms. The only other alarm soundings were either due to "dinner being over cooked" or testing. You might also be able to find an alarm that FIRST makes a voice announcement, then alarms which could be of help. The OneLink system I have above alarms, then has a voice announcement, then alternates between the two until silenced or the condition clears.

I’m curious about the Wi-Fi / App features… such as, do you get notifications on the app when you’re away from home?
Like that kidde Those ones have a problem of false alarming
literally every ionization smoke alarm
@@Kirby7601 the Kidde is photoelectric
@@linnysprojects not all of them
@@Kirby7601 I’m just talking about that specific modal
The kidde announces CO vs Fire. Also kidde makes a unit that displays ppm. Regardless this industry needs a shakeup with better detectors.
Kidde has ULC for Canada. X-Sense - UL only.
Kidde
Safety company

Sounds like

I'm supposing ulc is better?

@@tomshipman7706 Let me know what you find. I'm also looking as I agree it is a big red flag.
The X-Sense is not tested and not UL listed, I would not use them and will be sending mine back to Amazon.

Kidde is owned by Carrier Corporation

Me too w/First Alert. At 4am that shit gave off and I called fire dept and it was a false alarm. Piece of crap for sure.
So they r throw aways after the battery runs dead in 10 years

Better to have some anxiety from a loud smoke detector than no anxiety because you died in the fire.
That blink may cause you to lose your life if you are in a deep sleep or facing away from the strobe light
