Love how far ahead of the flight curve you remain no matter the new tech or scenario Kay. Exemplary contrast to some other YT flyers, living and deceased, mentioned in comments by those who have not followed you closely. However, I need to watch your vids multiple times now due to your careful preflight planning 😍I hope you don't mind!

Not much happing when cruising on autopilot. Pilots know when the workload is low, and also are trained to multitask. If any issues came up Kay would have given everyone a demo on how to react.
@@tomdewitt4148 Also most private pilots are extemly over qaulfied for there craft.... What about mounting the StarLink antenna on top of the aircraft? They make brackets that allow it to be removable, if you also installed a pass through, then the cable can be sent into the cabin.. you can put in a USB-C power adapter in the place as well, there are several that plug into 12V cigarette lighters, or you could wire one in.. doubt the low profile mount and StarLink Mini would affect the drag very much…. Also you could mount the power connection below the mount, exterior, then use a super short USB-C cable and have no cables running to the interior to be in the way, could also be on a switch to shut it off when not in use.. your like the big boys then 😬. Check Hodgesmarine they have a mount designed for a boat that is flat, looks like it could work on a plane, it’s $256 🙄

Might be a silly question but, in the commercial airlines we have to put our phones in airplane mode. How does Starlink and using your phones affect the smaller aircraft, or does it?
She wasn't using direct cell phone, but Wi-Fi connection to Starlink device, which is MUCH lower power. Also, FAA ruling applies only to commercial airlines.
I'm testing some options. My USB powered ports aren't high enough voltage to run it but my cigarette lighter port might be. I've never run that battery dead. So I'm thinking around 2 - 3 hours.
I have an idea. Do a live broadcast during landing! This would give people something to be concerned with! LoL 🤣😆 People, do you really think Kay would put her whole dream into jeopardy? Remember, her detailed preflight check list? Were you there when she and her dad discussed who would do what during the live feed? No you weren't.
I get how much fun that must be but there is a reason why it’s prohibited for commercial pilots to use personal devices on the flight deck. Why? Quite simply it’s unsafe. If you’re wanting to see stricter regulations for private pilots continue to broadcast live streams from the left seat and see what the FAA does. I guarantee you won’t like the result.
@ Her father was in the right seat. He’s a pilot but is not rated for multi engines. He was as involved with setting up the hardware and the livestream as Kay was. Bottom line the whole exercise is a distraction. While that might not present a significant hazard during normal controlled flight, however stuff can go wrong fast at 200 mph and it’s easy to get behind the plane if you’re goofing around with live streaming and the loose wiring and hardware cluttering the cockpit. It’s just a bad idea! Kay is a good pilot who I’ve always thought of as a safe pilot. Given this development I’m not so sure about that anymore. I don’t want to hear about her on the news like I did Jenny Blalock.
50 gig priority data. Then unlimited normal data. Which means, you still get high speeds but they can slow you down if there is high demand on the satellites. But I've never been slowed down so far.
Of course you got Starlink for the airplane! LOL All you need now is a secure mount for the dash and somewhere to hide the cables. Works up to 200 mph....gotta be the fastest link on the service!! I suppose you could always use it for home use as well. They say the unit costs about $449 - $549 and $30 a month if you already have a plan or $165 a month for unlimited service. Costly dollars and weight. As long you are demonstrating new technology, why don't check into the new Starlink satellite technology that works with your regular mobile cell phone. It works on the ground through Starlink satellites and allows you to use your regular cell phone for messaging, voice and data coverage. I suspect you could use it to solve some of your concerns just as well as or better than the mini. Just as you used your phone for this demonstration. You may be able to connect it through Visible (Verizon) at half the cost.
First I've heard of direct to cell although I know it's been coming. I just took a look and the speeds are still pretty slow. Also, to test in the airplane you'd have to hold the phone up to the window. I just bought a suction mount for our Starlink and will be testing that in the window. Thanks for the info as we're always looking for better ways to do things.
@@FlyWithKay FCC 47CFR 22.925 prohibits the use of cell phones on aircraft in flight, whether private or commercial. (Note that has nothing to do with any FAA dictates.
