It's weird to remember that the whole point of the Shrek movies was basically to make a touch of realism to fairy tales, which is why the characters had close to realistic skin and fur textures. Then the Puss In boots sequel came and they decided to go full fantasy and stylization
@@MesserMusic I personally love the new style, I learnt a while ago that no matter how good realism looks when it first gets made, software will always advance and the once incredibly realistic movies will eventually look uncanny. I think the new style is much more sustainable than a realism and the story can still be similar to the other movies.
I think it's also important to remember the point and purpose of Dreamworks as a whole- to be a big middle finger to Disney, stemming from Katzenberg's tenure at the company. That meant that most of their films (with a couple exceptions made purely for profit like Boss Baby and Trolls) had more of an edge, a touch of grit, and realism thrown in to contrast to the softer, younger aimed Disney movies. This allowed for genuine epics to be told, like HTTYD, KFP, and Prince of Egypt, as well as more raunchier stuff like Shrek and El Dorado. However, this contrasting approach has to change when Disney changes. When Disney animation stops being about good stories and wholesome messages, but devolves into endless sequels, ham-fisted pandering, terrible messages, and political grandstanding; then Dreamworks no longer has that original angle for a selling point. Ironically, with the Bad Guys, Puss in Boots the Last Wish, and hopefully Ruby Gillman; Dreamworks has been forced to step up and provide that fantasy and stylization, since Disney/Pixar won't anymore. As Disney/Pixar rots from within other studios like Dreamworks will rise to take their place. I just hope Dreamworks will maintain that edge and 'everyone appeal' factors that make their films better than DIsney/Pixar.

There's a gorgeous beauty in stylized looks that weirdos like you (respectfully in all honesty, we're all weirdos) can never understand. Which is honestly a shame, because people who put down stylized looks honestly miss a lot of epics stuff, shoving aside movies and games with amazing stories simply because they don't look realistic. Bull crap to the upteenth degree. If you have the time, you should defo branch out and see if you find any cool stylized movies that have epic stories you might like. Who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised.

I didn’t realize it until now, but puss and kitty are a lot more expressive and less realistic in the last wish. Ps: fun fact: the giant fight was planned for this movie instead of the last wish, and wasn’t as exciting as it is in the last wish.

One thing I didn't noticed in the second movie, but noticed in the first one, she's a DECLAWED cat, and all her weapons LOOKS like a cat claw, they retract and withdraw, and this makes me feel SO BAD for kitty softpaws, I think they really, REALLY thought about the CHARACTER'S and the meaning behind them, but it only shows in the movie 2, and this makes me LOVE so much the second movie even more

Actually yeah, Kitty softpaws was declawed by someone that was supposed to be her parental figure. Declawing a cat is literally cutting off the first knuckle of their finger. Imagine somebody holding you down against your will and cutting off the first knuckle of every single one of your fingers and claiming it's for your own good. That's scary! Kitty softpaws was deformed and essentially became disabled, and at the hands of someone that was supposed to take care of her when she was little! Like it's genuinely horrifying.
My parents declawed my cat (she's gone now so this happened around 16 years ago) and they always regretted it afterward. I wasn't even born when this happened, so it's not like I could do anything about it.

I think one of the biggest difference between the original puss in boots and the new one is how horrifyingly realistic all of the characters look. compare literally any character from this movie to any character to the new one: eyes are larger, colors are more vibrant, and characters' teeth were straight

The backstory with Puss and Humpty is surprisingly compelling. And Kitty's story is really fucked up when you consider that her caretaker basically chopped off her fingers at the first knuckle.

A lot of echochamber psuedo-reviewers have a giant bug up their butt about Puss 2011 and Bolt 2008 for some reason. I get it for Puss from shrek fatigue in 2011, even if that's a far from a fair reason to pan the movie now in 2023. I think it is implied that humpty survived at the end of the movie. He is literally shown in his golden egg cosplay hanging out with the mother goose in the clouds. It also makes more sense considering his character, since completely uprooting your plans and sacrificing yourself for the place you hated makes no sense. There also is the fact that the egg conveniently landed perfectly in the center of the pillar and was only seen after puss spends 25 seconds saving the golden goose from falling. The egg shell looking things were just pieces of paper from the tower

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid and I still do and when they announced the second movie I was more excited for it than any other movie coming out at the time. Puss in boots has just always been one of my favorite characters
I literally only watched this movie once, as an 8 year old, months after it came out. I remember as the credits rolled I turned away from the TV and said, “That’s a movie I never want to watch again.”

I Respectfully think this movie is a masterpiece, the whole dynamic between puss and Humpty was so tragic, thier friendship had more depth than shrek and donkey. Puss in this movie as an outlaw was awesome and an absolute savage, in his first scene the he solos those people at the bar, and hits a cat with guitar. Humpty's sacrifice was a heart breaking scene, seeing puss holding back his tears was so touching, I mind you this was the first time we saw this cat who was comic relief in shrek movies show this kind of emotion. Who ever says "it doesn't hold up in 2023" should stop judging a kids movie from 2011.

Puss n' Boots 1 is pretty much a movie that exists in a positive way. Not great, not terrible, has some good moments but pails in comparison to it's sequel. Smart move of DreamWorks by making both movies basically disconnected from each other
thats not true at all, there are a tonne of callbacks to the first film in Last Wish, and you are clearly biased if you believe puss 1 is mediocre. It's a solid 7.5/10 flick at worse, not nearly as good as the sequel, but few animated movies are. Early 2010s Shrek fatigue utterly tarred and feathered it's reputation, and the echochamber born out of it still is. Oh and reviewers being too lazy to compare it's animation with it's peers from the time, rather than a movie 11 years newer. Those two boneheads clearly never saw another Shrek film with their stupid fur comments.
Me and my grandma watched this movie after having seen the last wish since we both had never seen the original and we both thought that it must be good with how amazing the last wish was. After we watched it I looked at her and said “that was certainly a movie.” All she said in return was “yup.” Then we started talking about how good the last wish was.
I really like every scene with Puss and Kitty at the same time. I really hate every scene with Humpty Dumpty. Since all three are almost always seen together, it makes for one strangely forgettable experience.

And I appreciate what they were going for with Humpty and Puss. It may have worked for you, but it didn’t work for me that well. I think the real problem is that The Last Wish is just so good; that it attracted movie goers (who aren’t as easily impressed as puss In boots 1 fans)
In fact, I remember back in the day, a lot of people claimed Puss 2011 was the best Shrek-franchise since Shrek 2 (aka it was better than Shrek 3&4). I do think it's a solid movie. Just because it's not a masterpiece, it doesn't mean it's bad. If The Last Wish is in the Dreamworks' Top 10, Puss 2011 is somewhere in the Top 20 for me. Which isn't too shabby, considering they made almost 50 animated movies at this point. Overall, the two Puss movies form an elegant duology, despite the vastly different art styles. 2011 shows us the "birth" of the legend and The Last Wish shows us the "death" of the legend.
I watched this movie twice about a month before the second one came out, after watching it the second time I figured they must've made Humpty's face look so much like a humans is so that you can tell what real people look like when they're lying, if you keep an eye on Humpty's face and pay attention to the way he talks you can already tell he's trying to manipulate Puss from the beginning because that's how people act in real life. Just pay close attention to humpty next time and y'all will see what I'm talking about. Pay attention to his facial expressions and the tone In his voice and you'll start to see it more and more. Look for this in people as well, getting good at recognizing these traits will help you find good honest friends in life instead of just people you know.

Its an japanese animation movie and art piece. likely one of the last if not the last pure are films the industry there will animate ussing handdrawns stuff. with a great emphasis on speed and speed drawing technics. its also is basically roided up, horny, anime wacky races.

@@user-uw9io4hl5g it's funny that while DreamWorks have always tried to adapt with there animation aspect in every movie they produced so far Pixar is still currently stuck with the idea that the animation needs to look as realistic as possible and while it's not a bad thing it still becomes unoriginal and boring and it becomes more like Live action movies instead
The backstory with Puss and Humpty is surprisingly compelling. And Kitty's story is really fucked up when you consider that her caretaker basically chopped off her fingers at the first knuckle.

As a kid, that humpty dumpty betrayal really got me. I felt betrayed and astonished when they cut to all the times humpty was there.
That sequence is the only part I actually remember from this movie and I remember thinking it was hilarious and I dunno why.

Comparing the cgi of a movie 11 years older is just bad actor psuedo review. Good to know I shouldnt waste my time watching anything else they make since their opinions are inorganic. Yeah Puss 2011 isnt as good as The Last Wish, but few animations are. It's a decent enough film for what it is and time period.

I used to be obsessed with this movie as a child but I will admit it made me feel really uncomfortable every time Puss and Kitty interacted
But as a kid I thought they're a fine generic couple as I enjoyed

A lot of echochamber psuedo-reviewers have a giant bug up their butt about Puss 2011 and Bolt 2008 for some reason. I get it for Puss from shrek fatigue in 2011, even if that's a far from a fair reason to pan the movie now in 2023. Yeah they are not epic animations, last wish is a lot better film than puss 2011, but they were above average for their time and hold up as well as most cgi movies from the era.
0:02 Don't know if anyone noticed, but he doesn't wear gloves in the movie, and only wore the cape for like the first scene of the film where he lost it as well.

I think it is implied that humpty survived at the end of the movie. He is literally shown in his golden egg cosplay hanging out with the mother goose in the clouds. It also makes more sense considering his character, since completely uprooting your plans and sacrificing yourself for the place you hated makes no sense.
There also is the fact that the egg conveniently landed perfectly in the center of the pillar and was only seen after puss spends 25 seconds saving the golden goose from falling.
The egg shell looking things were just pieces of paper from the tower

@@MLH_1231 That sword puzzles the hell out of me. There's no buttons or switches like you would find in an OTF knife, and when the blade extends the material seems to form out of nowhere instead of extending with the blade if that makes sense.

Yeah. It's like a terrific stand alone film that doesn't match up with the Shrek films at all when talking about it's story and how emotional, dramatic and off kilter adult it was.
I th8nk my favorite scene from this movie that always gets me to laugh is the reveal that Humpty was always there and it cuts to him being in all the important scenes backgrounds it's so stupidly funny

I absolutely loved this movie as a kid and I still do and when they announced the second movie I was more excited for it than any other movie coming out at the time. Puss in boots has just always been one of my favorite characters
I literally only watched this movie once, as an 8 year old, months after it came out. I remember as the credits rolled I turned away from the TV and said, “That’s a movie I never want to watch again.”

I have a feeling shrek 5 (which was teased at the end of puss in boots 2) is either gonna use the og shrek art style or they'll make a new one for shrek 5. I doubt puss in boots 2's artstyle was meant to be universal, more like trying something new to make it unique.

I Respectfully think this movie is a masterpiece, the whole dynamic between puss and Humpty was so tragic, thier friendship had more depth than shrek and donkey. Puss in this movie as an outlaw was awesome and an absolute savage, in his first scene the he solos those people at the bar, and hits a cat with guitar. Humpty's sacrifice was a heart breaking scene, seeing puss holding back his tears was so touching, I mind you this was the first time we saw this cat who was comic relief in shrek movies show this kind of emotion. Who ever says "it doesn't hold up in 2023" should stop judging a kids movie from 2011.

Puss n' Boots 1 is pretty much a movie that exists in a positive way.
Not great, not terrible, has some good moments but pails in comparison to it's sequel. Smart move of DreamWorks by making both movies basically disconnected from each other
thats not true at all, there are a tonne of callbacks to the first film in Last Wish, and you are clearly biased if you believe puss 1 is mediocre. It's a solid 7.5/10 flick at worse, not nearly as good as the sequel, but few animated movies are. Early 2010s Shrek fatigue utterly tarred and feathered it's reputation, and the echochamber born out of it still is. Oh and reviewers being too lazy to compare it's animation with it's peers from the time, rather than a movie 11 years newer. Those two boneheads clearly never saw another Shrek film with their stupid fur comments.
Me and my grandma watched this movie after having seen the last wish since we both had never seen the original and we both thought that it must be good with how amazing the last wish was. After we watched it I looked at her and said “that was certainly a movie.” All she said in return was “yup.” Then we started talking about how good the last wish was.
And then everyone clapped right? That totally didn’t happen.

Since all three are almost always seen together, it makes for one strangely forgettable experience.

The first film’s pacing is clunky, the humour isn’t great and everything story wise isn’t very engaging or interesting (outside of Humpty and Puss’s dynamic).
And I appreciate what they were going for with Humpty and Puss. It may have worked for you, but it didn’t work for me that well.
I think the real problem is that The Last Wish is just so good; that it attracted movie goers (who aren’t as easily impressed as puss In boots 1 fans)

In fact, I remember back in the day, a lot of people claimed Puss 2011 was the best Shrek-franchise since Shrek 2 (aka it was better than Shrek 3&4).
I do think it's a solid movie. Just because it's not a masterpiece, it doesn't mean it's bad.
If The Last Wish is in the Dreamworks' Top 10, Puss 2011 is somewhere in the Top 20 for me. Which isn't too shabby, considering they made almost 50 animated movies at this point.
Overall, the two Puss movies form an elegant duology, despite the vastly different art styles. 2011 shows us the "birth" of the legend and The Last Wish shows us the "death" of the legend.
Man puss in boots was always my favorite shrek character (yes I know the origin of the fairytale) and these movies solidified it

I watched this movie twice about a month before the second one came out, after watching it the second time I figured they must've made Humpty's face look so much like a humans is so that you can tell what real people look like when they're lying, if you keep an eye on Humpty's face and pay attention to the way he talks you can already tell he's trying to manipulate Puss from the beginning because that's how people act in real life. Just pay close attention to humpty next time and y'all will see what I'm talking about. Pay attention to his facial expressions and the tone In his voice and you'll start to see it more and more. Look for this in people as well, getting good at recognizing these traits will help you find good honest friends in life instead of just people you know.
