@@MattRhodesSport Jesus. Cant imagine what you must be going through. Ever since i lost my dad 13 years ago never got over it, crying daily. Sorry for your loss...
Great to see you back, Matt. Whatever we think about Capes' capabilities, his influence on the sport is massive. I don't think we would have strongman as we know it today without him.
Geoff has his place in strongman history secured. It's a shame Kaz wasn't as humble and nice as he is now, if he was he would have the record for the most WSM wins I think. Welcome back Matt.
I remember there was a highland games type event in the late 80s that was just Capes, Sigmarson & Kaz. So he did get to compete against Kaz later on. It is probably on youtube here somewhere
He was quite a big part of my youth, if only through the TV lol. I was little when he was winning event's he was and all over the tv. Well the 4 tv channels that we had back then lol. Every night he seemed to be on some show or other. And on xmas and red nose day he used to be a big part of that too. He did pantomime as well I'm sure of it lol.
A true athlete for sure. Maybe the most athletic strongman to ever compete in Worlds Strongest Man. The 80's and 90's were the best times for WSM in my opinion.
Geoff did not weigh 370 pounds in 1979. He weighed 315 pounds in 1979 and 320 pounds from 1980-1982. Starting in 1983 he began to slowly gain weight and went to 340 then to 355 and by 1986 he was up to 375 pounds and had also increased his overall static strength exponentially, but also decreased his cardio and athleticism due to all the weight he gained. He was also a heavy smoker for many years. He was said be 6'5.5" at his tallest, although he was billed both at 6'5" and 6'6". Later in life he had lost a significant amount of height (several inches) and unfortunately gained a tremendous amount of weight which rendered him quite immobile.
@@MattRhodesSportin the south Wales valleys where I'm from there were a few rugby players and ex boxers like Geoff who became coppers lol. 6 ft plus and 16 stone men who could still run after you if they had too lol. Don't see many like that anymore. If they are big they usually have terrible cardio and if they are fit they are usually much smaller . Rare to have both attributes and become a copper nowadays. You'd be more likely to use those attributes and be playing a sport or doing strongman events for a living or something like that instead, where the money is.

Thank you, I'll keep posting again now
I would like to see a video on Jouko Ahola. Pound for pound he was one of the best strongman.
It's already made and will be uploaded soon :)
I’m sure if he was given East German levels of gear he’d have won an Olympic gold medal
That's probably true to be fair
I nearly got arrested off Jeff Cakes - Phew! Got away with it!
P. S. It was for Budgie smuggling!
I think everywhere would be safe if all the cops were as big and athletic as Geoff in his day :)
How fast over 200 meters? MADNESS!
Big Kaz still got screwed for several years. Politics - don’t vote, you’ll only encourage them!

Great overall strength athlete but I don’t believe he ever bench pressed 300 kg. RIP
