- Heyy guys!!! Welcome to another sewing tutorial, in this video, I will be showing you guys how I personally make my ruched outfits!! This particular maxi skirt has ruching details on the front and two sides.
Ruching is just another fancy word to say gathering fabric! If you follow my socials then you would see I love a ruched look, it elevates any piece upgrading your fit baby!
Key tips to learn here, make sure your elastic is cut to your desired length, and ensure that the fabric you cut is longer.. When sewing your elastic, ensure you are pulling evenly to ensure even gathers on each side!

This ! 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks girl !!!!!
Excellent tutorial! Only a couple of things I didn't quiet follow:
1. Where did each of the three stands of elastic go? Two sides and waist band?
2. In total how many pieces comprised the skirt? Was it just two, front and back?
I believe you skipped over doing the other side for time, but it still helps even if sped up. I still loved this though very detailed, every time you said "if that makes sense" I was like yes, it actually does! 😂
I believe it was one strip down each side and one down the middle. So NOT one down the back)
Then another piece for the waistband.
I 💕 love it 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
thank you!!!!!!!
I love it 💖
Thank you so much ❤️
Can you do a tutorial on how to make a skirt pattern please??🥺🙏🏾
Thank you !
Thank you for watching !!! ❤️
Found your channel. I have a dress I want to do this to but only in the sides. (So not putting elastic down the the front) is more of a formal dress. This will help ‘hide’ my almost 60 yr old belly 😉 and help shorten the dress since it’s probably long enough for 6’ gal (and I’m 5’2” 🤪).
How do I figure out what length of elastic to use on my hips? I don’t want the dress too short since it’s for a black tie wedding. Thank you!!
I've been looking for this video all over! You're amazing! Did you just do one layer or did you add a lining?
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING!! I only did the one layer :)
Wow
What length of elastic should I use for my ruching (for the front of the skirt
This was really detailed, thank you! Did you sew the sides of the skirt before the ruching ?
Thank you!! I sewed the sides at the same time ruching with the elastic. Sometimes however I find myself sewing first then going over with the elastic you can do either way 😅🥰
Would this be good for beginners?
Love this tutorial! I’m making a dress with a little ruching on the side around the waist area but I’m also adding a slit! Should I do the ruching first?
Personally, I find it was easier for me to do the ruching first if it is to be on only one side or one specific area then sew the front and back together. If I want ruching on the sides also, I would add the elastic at the same time as sewing the front and back together.. if that makes sense.
Yes! Thank you!!
Will this work on a non stretch fabric?
Just wondering, with the way you stretch the elastic, how do you make sure the ends of the elastic match the end of fabric? I’d be afraid I’d end up finishing sewing the last I and still have some fabric left without the ruching.
Hello, I loved your video, I have a question. The skirt you made was 80" = 203.2cm, the elastic would be 40" = 101.6cm. Is this correct?
But wouldn’t the curve shape you cut the fabric in be squeezed in half? So would you have to incorporate this into your pattern?
Thanks so much
Must the fabric be strenchy
You can definitely achieve this look with no stretch I’m not sure how it would look will vary depending on the fabric you do but you would just need to add a zipper 🤍
Can this be done with a straight sewing
How long is the final ruched skirt in inches ?
I actually have the opposite situation going on. I bought a skirt that has ruching on both sides near the hips and absolutely hate the design. How can I get rid of it?
Which fabric?
would this work with cotton fabric?
it should yes! Only difference if there is no stretch you may need to add a zipper etc :)
Is it compulsory I use a stretching material 😊
I don’t think so ! If using non stretch main difference would be just adding a zipper from what I can think of ❤️
@@CassieOlufemi ok thanks ❤️
What kind of fabric u use? Do u have link?
I used a stretch nylon spandex blend fabric. I bought it from a local fabric store. So I don’t have a link ❤️
hi I’m new here what the name of the fabric did you use please
HI there!! I believe I used a stretch nylon spandex blend :)
I think the only part I’m unsure of is adding the ruching to the front and the back. Could you possibly explain that part?
Yes! So I would ruch the front / back first, then I would add the front and back pieces together and sew down the sides. The same technique to be used however will be used when ruching the front and sides. hope that helps!
How much fabric should i add on the original length that i want
I usually double the length of fabric and make the elastic your required length. if that makes sense
@@CassieOlufemi every time i stretch the elastic it's never done well any idea to improve the placement of the elastic sometimes it's not enough for the fabric or the opposite maybe may way is wrong but I can't control the elastic
Cute 🥰 but can you walk in it?😊
