i bought the blue one, if you buy one you gotta do the following, replaced pickups with seymour duncan jb and jazz chrome, get kluson revolution tuners, and shunt the coil tap capacitor to ground, straplocks then my friends you got yourself a freakin goot axe.

I just bought the blue one (had to have a real debate with myself regarding the price). Its going to be the first thing i grab if my place catches on fire. That said how i justified the price was realizing the amount of money i spent trying to do what the guitar does on a budget and failing at it made me realized i should have done this years sooner and saved myself money long term.

The ultra modern weight relief isn't a new feature, it was on the old model (which only disappeared at the end of last year, it's not been gone long!). The only changes are the pickups, the neck binding and the colours/knobs. From the way Gibson are marketing this you'd think it had been gone for years and has been completely transformed.

In a way I agree with you, but in my opinion it’s definitely a case of Gibson realizing what they did wrong with the new Studio they released earlier this year. Then actually doing the right thing for once and returning the Studio back to what people want it to be with the added benefits of different colors and different pickups(which are both obviously subjective and up to each individual to determine if it’s an improvement or not over the version discontinued last year).

I bought a 2010 Gibson LP Studio in wine red a week ago and I can’t put it down it’s so good.
Binding means nothing to me. I actually never really liked it on any guitar.
Thankfully mine has no coil taps either. Finicky messy stuff I can’t deal with.

You mentioned the weight relief but not how much they actually weigh. What is the weight please? My dodgy shoulder means they need to be a lot lighter than usual LPs. I haven't played my Standard for about 15 years as it's too painful, so would love a significantly lighter model. Cheers.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and i like your playing. I don't think a 1,700$ / 1800€ guitar can be classified as "affordable". Affordable is something else. Simply by lacking originality and pushing nothing further (Gibson Style) a rebranding of a Gibson Tribute with binding and adding coil tap or split is shameful in my opinion. I sold my 2019 Tribute because I wasn't use it anymore, but a very capable guitar. Splitting/taping the coil gives a different sound, by far different from a true SC. Gibson is a corporation. They do corporate stuff.

I think the real issue is that at $1,700 you can buy an Eastman, Ibanez Prestige, etc., that cuts NO corners. There is so much mind blowingly better competition at this price point that I just don’t see why anyone would want these (the brand name, I know). Gibson hasn’t innovated anything in the market since the 60s, and that’s why they’ve been pushed lower and lower in my rankings over the years. I wouldn’t knock this guy though, they are a music store trying to sell merchandise after all :).

I think we all knew these were coming back sooner than later? But is this model even nessessary anymore?
At least with PRS's SE line. Your in most cases, getting the same exact specs in a more affordable imported version.
I can understand back in the day, a Studio had an honest reputation. But in today's market, it just kinda blends in with the rest of the many Gibson LesPaul variants.
Gibson is gonna water down the LP model, to the point were they themselves will be struggling to describe them in any distinct manner, from the others. Epiphone is doing this exact same thing, ad nauseum. It's ridiculous.
