Thanks to Walter for taking us out to this little family cemetery. It’s kinda far from home, but hopefully sometime soon we can make it back and clear off those larger tree limbs. I included some bonus footage at the end. Behind the scenes and bloopers... kinda fun.
Yes Robert the rawness and unplanned content made it even more engaging than usual. I have family interred litterally all over the USA and the world. Now im in Peru........its easy to loose track of family in life let alone in death Thank you, blessings for your journey
I enjoy all of your videos but this one especially. My Gr. Gr. Grandparents are Hewitts and Robertson;s from Cartersville, Cumberland Co., Virginia. Through my genealogy research I discovered that there is an old forgotten family cemetery next to the family home there. I learned of it from an obituary. My grandpa Charles Robertson is buried there. I live in Oregon so unfortunately I will not be able to go look for it. Keep those videos coming. I look forward to them.
This was so touching, to be at this old cemetery, with your relatives, who lived some 160 years ago. I wonder if there would be anything in the town records about them, like a death certificate or a newspaper from back in that time that might have an obituary. Thanks for another Sidestep Adventure, and sharing something personal. 😆😆
I love these videos! I recently found an old cemetery in the mountains where I live, there's only about 6 graves marked with Fieldstones, I can't find any history whatsoever on it, no names, just looks to be abandoned for some years, curiosity gets the best of me, I lived here all my life within a mile or so of the cemetery, and never knew it existed, neither does any older neighbors in this area..has me stumped for sure..
So cool to see the resting bed of past relatives. We in the Caribbean have relatives from Ireland, Wales, Spain, coming through a main port which is Jamaica, Grand Caiman, corn Island etc. we could not go any further than grandparents. Thanks for sharing. Why not share an evening backyard chat with parents cheating away on those buried ancestry
I found you not long ago and have thoroughly enjoyed your treks. Do you ever travel a bit north to Talbot, Taylor, Crawford, Peach and a few further east but central Georgia. That is where my kin are planted. My direct line settled Geneva, Talbot, Georgia and I have a lot of details of the early community. How the town changed when the railroad came through. If you do not travel that far north do you know of another who does the work that you do that I might also watch? Thank you for what you do. I also record a lot of people on findagrave site but my wandering days are more limited.
I work for a tree company that do line clearance and today we were working in a place that is a family commentary but is all forgotten is a lot of graves . I check it in the internet and found out that is a Historic Glenwood Landing Cemetery Landmarked. But is full of woods just similar to this one
WoW you found one of your own! That's awesome and you's have made a huge difference already. Would luv to see it after you's have cleaned it right up. You are good men. Luv your videos! Keep up the great work :)
I was always told all Graves faced East because when the Lord returned he would break the Eastern sky there are a lot of old sayings people used to carry down through the generations but they're all gone now
Wanda Caston Yes. My mother, who is nearly ninety and lives in rural Yorkshire (UK) told me the same thing. Further to this, she said that priests are buried the other way around. At the second coming, the congregation would rise to the east whereas the priests would rise to the west to greet their people. I have seen a number of graves of priests facing west, so there may be something in it.
Enjoyed your video reminds me of a family Cemetery my ancestors had in West Virginia someone else had purchased the land took down the Headstones and planted over the top. So sad. glad yours is still intact
Looks like a good Fall project for those who are related to those buried there. When the weather cools come back with a chainsaw, gloves, rakes and turn too!
You're changing the game for stuff like this. So many cemeteries that are lost to time and nature. Thank you so much for giving us a glimpse into life in the old South. Much love and respect from Los Angeles!
Thank you for sharing your adventures! Am unable to travel much now and your sharing these is like I'm walking right there with you!!! Have even found myself replying back to your comments while at other moments I gasp in amazement along with you at some of your finds like the row of baby tombs all lined up at one of the old cemetaries. So wonderful that someone knew of this special family cemetery to clean it and continue the memory of those who now rest there!
If you want a real beautiful cemetery try the cementeren of Staglieno, in Genua, The graves are beautiful and you can feel the happy and loving families living the live to the fullest dedicated to beauty.
Absolutely positively have enjoyed each & everyone of your videos! Most excellent 👍 & thank you for taking us on your adventures! It’s exceptionally selfish of me to say ☺️ but I am hopeful that you will be able to purchase a drone & use it on these adventures 🤞 it would be so cool to see overhead view of so many of the areas you are exploring!
Another great video. How wonderful to discover a family plot. You did a good job cleaning it up without tools. It looked definitely better than when you got there. Makes me want to go home & see where ancestors are buried. Unfortunately i am a long way from home
Reminds me of a family cemetery mom spent years trying to find. I found it 6 months after she passed away. About the same condition, but she would have loved to have seen it.
Great video. Always love your content. You should get on Ancestry and start your family tree. Then you could figure out exactly how the Hewetts are related to you. Thanks so much for another beautiful adventure. God Bless and keep you all safe.
I'd be interested to see if you ever come across an old cemetery with stones with the name of Price on them, as I have Price ancestors who lived in Muscogee Co. GA in the 1800s and have not been able to locate where they're buried.
I just discovered your videos have been binge-watching ĺast few days. You should show a video of your family cemetery after it's cleaned up. My aunt use to say she did not want to be buried in the family cemetery because she didn't want a tree growing on her. I understand why she said that because it can be problematic getting family to mow the grass inside the cemetery and just keeping it up in general.
My mother was contacted by an estate attorney because one of my relatives passed and didn’t have a will. She is an heir to the estate which includes a 190 acre tobacco farm with a family cemetery on the property. We’re going to check it out before the property is sold and the funds divided to the heirs. There’s at least 120 people on the heir list.
I love looking at your old Cemetery post those people lived so long ago. Those times were most certainly hard back in those days. They didn't have the conveniences that we have today no electricity nothing I was raised that way too kind of in the 1940s and 50s in rural Oklahoma. But I like to think this way when the Rapture of the church takes place oh, they will be raised from their graves just like we will. At least this way I understand
Hi guys, at 13:42 a lady starts humming a tune, it's quite pretty. Do you know of any stories of a female relative that would hum ???. You will need your audio up quite load with earphones on to hear her. Thanks for sharing. xx
Wish you had contact information cause have civil war graves a forgotten cemetery that is very old and entire family was buried at same time they all parishes in a house fire I would love to bring attention to it possibly get people in to help clean it up show respect not only to the forgotten veterans but to the forgotten children
Its been a year and no mention of a return to clean up their own family cemetery! How Sad! Maybe its all about just making videos. They hardly ever comment on WHER THEY ARE. Looks like this is just for entertainment value!
Most houses back then were built with stacked stone cellars so if there was a homesite there you would see a decent sized square or rectangular depression in the ground.
If it's only your relatives buried in this cemetery and it's a family cemetery then wouldn't that mean that one or more of your relatives owned that land and that your family would still own that land today? The land would have to pass down to newer generations wouldn't it?
Thanks to Walter for taking us out to this little family cemetery. It’s kinda far from home, but hopefully sometime soon we can make it back and clear off those larger tree limbs.

Should have had Cody jump on that limb 😁
face to east mean face to jerusalem (holy land)
Artist 61 Thank you for sharing. ❤️
Facing east to the sunrise. Looks like all those headstones were created at the same time. Thanks for the looksee
I love it when you go to the forgotten cemeteries and especially when you say the names out loud of those buried there.
Great video! The carpet of poison ivy at the end gave me chills!
Thankyou for Remembering Other's.... Praise God...🙏 💐
Aaww come on guys....what's life without a few million gnats? 😋 What a treasure to find your family cemetery.
YIPPEE!!! NO SNAKES!!! I was surprised that it was a family cemetery you didn't know about. Thank goodness your Uncle Walter knew where it was.
Wonderful you have a family connection to research. Also I know you'll take care of that place too.
Blessings ~
It may of been forgotten, but be glad all the headstones are in great shape. Glad the cemetery is in good condition.
How cool to find a cemetery of family. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
It would be really cool to see this cemetery cleaned up
Respecting the dead is good karma.
Another great video SSA.
This is a fantastic find. Thank you for sharing
You guys are so very respectful of the souls from long ago. There was a virus
That took alot of children, stay safe from this 2020 virus.
awesome vid guys I never get tired of you guys exploring old cemetery's and old forgotten places
Nice to see you all working to help your own, makes my heart warm.

Another fine Southern Adventure, love the simple little cemetery, I guess there was just nowhere else to bury the family, miles from nowhere

I hope you were able to get back and tidy it out. Such close family history. So special. The baby could be a married daughters son perhaps?

Went to this place many times in high-school. Definitely seen some crazy shit.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the names of MY Hewett ancestors on those gravestones! Please contact me! I'd love to see them and know y'all too!
Robert, have you seen this comment?
There is something very special about you guys. Love this channel...
Awesome that you found some of your family members and have plans to clean it up and find out more about the cemetery 🌷🌻🌹🌼🌺💐💮🏵️

Navy vet .
Sad that the Hewitt family or whoever hasn’t cleaned their family cemetery up. Our family cemetery in Texas is kept up and beautiful.
I was always told all Graves faced East because when the Lord returned he would break the Eastern sky there are a lot of old sayings people used to carry down through the generations but they're all gone now

Good crew. Interesting video. Love the old Southern woods.
Great channel Robert & co take it easy from ettalong beach ,australia
That cedar can still make lumber! Maybe they can make a bench for there. The smell wood be grand!

Great to see part of your family history! Lots of stories to be told, I'm certain. Thanks for sharing!
This was fabulous, thank you for sharing part of your life, that is so amazing, just love your videos!
I'm glad you found your family cemetery. ❤️❤️❤️ They are definitely being reborn again just by saying their names. God bless your family 🙏
Thank you for the video , please keep up the great work!!

When you get to a patch of land that has no old growth trees, that can sometimes suggest a building or an old field having been there.
Good stuff mate ,,love the videos ,,Australia
Thanks!
Hi I'm from Asia and I really enjoy watching your videos....really love them 😊
Thank you so much for finding such great history
I've been trying to guess Brian's relationship to you...brother? In the latest trips, he quit coming along. I enjoy watching Cody's attendance!
If you want a real beautiful cemetery try the cementeren of Staglieno, in Genua,
The graves are beautiful and you can feel the happy and loving families living the live to the fullest dedicated to beauty.

I will be in church Sunday and will be lighting a candlee along with prayers to the Hewlet family. May rhey rest in peace.
Great video guys as always.
I would really like to see that graveyard cleaned up. We owe that much to our loved ones who've passed on.
Great video as always... Missed you all, thought maybe y'all got lost on an adventure lol. 😊❤🇺🇸
To live into your 80's at that time was quite a feat. The average life expectancy in the mid 19th century was only about 40.
Awesome cemetery video! Loved it!
So sad that only a few generations on and this cemetery and the people in it was already forgotten 😞
The fella wi5h the blond hair and beard sounds like a young Clint Eastwood from the Rawhide series days.
Awesome video and going to a cemetery that in your family wow💜♥️♥️♥️♥️
Best gnat spray is vanilla perfume, you can buy it at Walmart. Or just a mixture of pure vanilla and water in a spray bottle works.
I'd be interested to see if you ever come across an old cemetery with stones with the name of Price on them, as I have Price ancestors who lived in Muscogee Co. GA in the 1800s and have not been able to locate where they're buried.
Cool fungus on that oak tree at 10:42. Metal detecting around that homestead oak might be interesting.
Really great adventure as usual!
Your trips are always nice and you show such beautyful places.
That was very interesting! Those Cedar trees could be up to 150 yrs old!
How are you Bryan Cody related. Another history lesson. 🇦🇺🐨👍❤️ Australia
Absorbine Jr. will repel those gnats. Sounds strange but it works.

Beautiful land
So beautiful so simple
Thanks for sharing
Hope you are in to adding your genealogy to ancestry and recording these relatives on findagrave. Will be helpful to your descendants some day.

Very nice.

Great job guys!!
Small cemetery is sober thinking, nice gate at an old fence.
Thanks for your update
I was missing you guys!

thanks for another great show where are you at in georgia
Another great episode! I'd love to tag along and do your heavy lifting.
If it was my history, my kinfolk I would be back with chainsaws and tools, clean it up and make it nice again. Sad to be forgotten.
Its been a year and no mention of a return to clean up their own family cemetery! How Sad! Maybe its all about just making videos. They hardly ever comment on WHER THEY ARE. Looks like this is just for entertainment value!
@@joyceparis For someone to go tear these places up? I wouldn't say exactly where it was either.
Most houses back then were built with stacked stone cellars so if there was a homesite there you would see a decent sized square or rectangular depression in the ground.
Not too many cellars down here in our area.
@@AdventuresIntoHistory ahhh gotcha
I'm really surprised I've never seen you happen on a snake out there. Prime real estate for it.
