Great video my friend. I know that you are from "across the pond", but thanks for taking interest in our history. You probably already know this, but the rows in a cemetery will all run north and south. Graves will always be facing east and west. The tradition is that Christ will return in the east. Graves are aligned so that when the body arises it will be facing the east. This means that the footstone will be east of the headstone. In the south, immediate family are usually buried together and more distant relatives are usually buried in separate rows. In really old cemeteries, sometime slaves were buried with the family, or they had a separate cemetery just outside the family cemetery. I have done quite a bit of probing in old family cemeteries and have even located previously unknown family member's headstones. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words Chip! As you say, so it is in this cemetery. The one odd thing that I’ve noticed here is that some headstones face away from the grave. Is that to prevent one from waking on the deceaseds grave?? I’d never seen it before coming to Alabama. Head scratcher for sure!
Mrs H will have to come comb the cemeteries and swing the coil with you then next time we come to NC!!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I hope to find more headstones and finding out more about those whose final resting place is there.

That’s incredible! I’m glad you found that cemetery and are doing something to maybe get it restored. It’s a shame that people don’t take of cemeteries.

Thanks Buddy! I’m sure time, money, and personal investment in one’s ancestors all weight against folks keeping up on their appearance, much like life in general. I’ll be back out there soon enough to see what else I can find.

Great video. Last year I visited graveyard in Idaho city. There are around 300 markers and there are over 3000 people buried there, no matter where you walk you are on someone's bones. Hans ..

I know you're into drones and photogrammetry and all kinds of technical things like that. You need to get yourself into GPR and map that place out!

      Thanks Chuck!
I’m actually going to grab survey flags and place them at the head of each depression to get a solid count. No need for GPR when you can see where they are buried!
