Tesio was introduced to Mendel theories during a train ride in 1909 if i remember correctly, by a british doctor. Cavaliere d'Arpino was his favourite horse, very very fast but unfortunately too fragile. So he realized that he must watch further, around the world, for his dams. He bought Catnip for a cheap prize, an unconsidered foal from Spearmint. Nogara was a great horse and a great mare. Despite his love for St. Simon he choose a sire from another line, for avoid excessive imbreeding probably. Nearco was a sire like no other, i read that the 80% of the winning throughbred today come from him, via stars like Northern Dancer, Nasrullah, Sunday Silence, Deep Impact and so on...

What a shame Tesio never got to see Ribot race once, let alone achieve his greatness status.

Yes it's a great shame! Ribot was a great example of Tesio's genius.

Is that really you!!?? Amazing, such an important man, his influence on the race horse is profound. Although I wish the Ribot sire line was more secure...

For me the pedigrees is a massive part of what makes flat racing so exciting... seeing generational traits, exciting horses producing exciting offspring... great stuff
