Anyways, to respond to the original comment, honestly RM is just extremely balanced towards aggression by design, her defensive options and 50/50 ability is actually kind of crap, but once she gets going she just never stops. She's also gotten nerfed a bit since her actual release with Onrush getting its speed and effective range drastically reduced. Also she doesn't have a "real block", she'll always take chip damage on her counter pose and she can't play parry games against projectiles at all. (This is why her walk is projectile immune)

Something I like about the mod creators of this game is that they make their characters balanced... with each other. This game's practically a Kusoge(Fighting game term for when a game is so buggy, and so shit in design it starts being fun and complex iirc) when you play mods of a single creator.
I found that someone made Kazuya from Tekken, and at first, I was like "Ok they seemed to have incorporated him really well. He has absolutely abysmal range, but he can combo you for days if you're good enough to get a hit in." And then I saw that "Sidestep" is a move, and it's literally just a spammable, invincible spot-dodge. I swear every modded character has that *one move* that's so completely and utterly stupid you can't help but laugh at it.
Then there’s some broken in the other direction. Kirby- Faithful to his games, so basically no range, +a bonus of less damage than Ninja’s heavy kick on a SUPER A couple Touhou characters: literally a generic template reskin, Ninja without the Ninja. Just tiny projectiles and pathetic melee range Melee Fox: somehow unable to do more than 5% in a 27 hit combo on a character with 900 health instead of 1000, oh, and the only good move is locked behind a Super
1:26 honestly I noticed this the most with the Susano'o mod, super cool character implementation but he has insane amounts of hitstun and it feels like DI just doesn't work against him, probably so opponents are caught in his more 'traditional' fighting game combo structure? Couldn't say for sure, all I know is someone hit me with Strike of the Possessed God super (the one that hits more for more unlocked seals) from midscreen, I wallbounced off the wall and literally flew to the other end of the stage and I couldn't do anything, while Susan could just keep superdashing to catch up and combo me after.
as someone who's fought diavolo before, he actually has less health than the average character, also robot is really good against him from my experience
no fr, mods are only cool if you're on singleplayer, is playing an op character vs op character, or playing a well made character vs well made character, bc otherwise it either ends with the opponent quitting or you losing 20 minutos of your life looking at a still screen never before in my life I though I was gonna find something more unbalanced than Unrestricted Mugen tornaments but I would be lying if I said that mods didnt gave me my best moments in the game when I played with a group of friends, someone would check all characters to see if they were good and we would play, I remember the first time I got my hands in the Diavolo mod against a friend who had never watched Jojo (the only one who hadnt out of all of us), and bro spent half of the match confused and the other half screaming, he was pissed afterwards so it was a good day
The simplest mod that I love is british police. Nothing too complex, very limited tool-wise, only one super that, shockingly, needs to be timed and helps continue combos, but it’s the fact that I can just beat any mod up if I play right and it feels amazing to do so. The only problem, as I mentioned, was the limited moveset, but you can still pull things off with the character and the 7-odd moves it can use. Also, I’m stereotypically bias since I’m British myself
I got yomi recently and have been enjoying it quite a lot, be it with regular characters or modded I was really happy to see Seelkadoom from the sonic rpg fangames be a character on the workshop, downloaded him with a friend and then uh +76 frame advantage in the air is totally normal yeah for sure
as an android main and unmodded wizard main i love android so much he just does like NO DAMAGE AT ALL and his supers require more frame gaps so its like impossible
I really want to make vanilla teir characters for this reason. Its no fun when you wanna use a base game character but every mod is so op it just isn't possible. And if most characters are balanced for vanilla they can all be used fairly. I feel like making your mod op nakes it less likely people will play it with others.
First time I tried mods, I stumbled upon something funny. I noticed my oponent had Fallen, so obviously, since Im dumb, I was sure they wont pick broken character (I got it for singleplayer replays), and picked very weak and outdated mod (god slaying slash looks to good to pass up), and played reverant. My Fallen oponent werent that good, as I took more than half of their hp before they touched me, but they did something verid- stayed in air entire match, while spamming chant. I had no idea what they were doing, so I just hustled and used their lack of air options to harras them in the interwals between flights. I thought I got this. But then, they threw the sun at me. Yes, thats right, they threw THE SUN. so of course, I perfect parried it. but it turns out, it deals damage each 5 frames or so, wich means you have to keep pparrying to stay alive. but then they just walked to me, and attacked low wich killed me(I was at low hp and couldn block or I would die). At least they were nice and we talked during whole ordeal

I suspect you both will and won't be happy to hear Diavolo has a "completely accurate boss version" in the works that doesn't even try to have any balance... it'll be a separate mod though. It'd also be great if you could send me any replay files of Diavolo breaking, I'm kinda at least partially in charge of fixing any instability related to him. Though if they're older than the 18th then the bugs might've been fixed. I'm a little surprised you didn't grab like, Kether, Red Mist, and Nytreon (a bit biased but they're probably my 3 favorite non-Noq/InklessBrush ones). Honestly I'd recommend Nytreon a lot, he's probably one of the BEST balanced characters I've seen. Noq and InklessBrush characters are absolutely amazing although they tend to be a touch on the powerful side. (Putting aside Torment who's not supposed to be balanced) Engineer's hitstun: I have zero clue what's up with it either. If you want me to, I could give you a workshop collection collection where I've been trying to roughly sort out character quality, and to a limited extent power. I'm probably gonna create a very slim category of "close to vanilla" Edit 2: Oh right, I forgot Delinquent. I know reception on that character is highly mixed but they have a really high skill ceiling and I'd probably put them at roughly vanilla balanced overall. Also, MultiHustle uh... Well it exists. If you ever decide to play around with it, I'm sorry that it's not entirely stable yet. Also hopefully it'll have proper online support soon™

The only thing keeping me (and probably a good 10% of the YOMI mod community) from making a balanced character that belongs on the roster is that sweet baby Christ the base roster is utterly cracked compared to literally any fighting game character that isn’t just doing a two button infinite. Cowboy could probably take an entire Skullgirls trio out, even if they also got TAS magic and every assist available at the same time. So either I’m going to come out the other end with MUGEN Ronald McDonald or crap
on the bright side if the other guy doesnt have the modded character downloaded u cant use that character as well so i guess it kind of evens the playing field on what u know the character does lol but yea modded characters are straight up busted lmao (im sad that i cant play keter or red mist often, my beloveds D: )

there's the suckers like Kali, Vixen and Omen but most of the mods are super fun and some are pretty well balanced like elder and goren (correct me if im wrong). also, mods open up the window for more cool singleplayer fight scenes
ok after further experience i rescind my statement about elder, he's super strong, but delinquent and nakmuay feel fairly vanilla balancing wise and are super fun to play
another opinion i wish you kind of touched on: mod characters try too hard to be cool. look at cowboy. look at it's supers. compare to someone like Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear, look at his su- er... overdrives and his instant kill. sol has his tyrant rave, where he punches up then hits his enemy with his weapon, dragon install, which (in GGST, at least) is a grab where sol goes fucking DEMON MODE, races forward hand outstreched, picks up his opponent and slams them on the ground, and finally, his instant kill, which, in xrd, at least.. you just gotta see it for yourself. what does cowboy have? a faster teleport, a delayed bullet, and 1000 cuts. the closest thing that he has to some dramatic finish super move.. is his lasso. specifically the inuza drop or whatever it's called exactly. in fact, all of the character's supers are these. the only one that comes close is the ever-legendary kill process. what makes the game cool isnt the moves by themselves, it's the wacky shit you can get up to using them. and the MEANWHILE theres a MODDED CHARACTER OUT THERE thats just KATANA USER 181924819048109284 that has a super where they CUT OFF A FUCKING CHUNK OF THE SUN AND SEND IT DOWN ON THEIR OPPONENT. How? why???? does the world of yomi hustle even HAVE a sun??? what IS the world of yomi hustle?????? what the fuck????????? why????????????

@@Jimmymacawoo If this is about Fallen, then that move is actually hilariously impractical because to do it you need to do what is essentially a Hustle that costs a bar of Meter instead of gaining it, and you have to do it uninterrupted 9 times. Don't get me wrong, Fallen is really strong since it's essentially a high effort joke mod a la the Ronald McDonald and 100% Accurate mods for Rivals of Aether, but the sun carving move is only there to flex and to reference Sephiroth's "Supernova" attack since, yanno, Fallen IS Sephiroth.
Ironically, 70% of the workshop gets bodied by the vanilla cast once you know *the tiny friggin' window of opimal play* for them. Most chars are tailored deep into a very specific playstyle and lack breadth, making them very predictable. Ones balanced around the vanilla cast on the other hand are less "get into this specific scenario and press the win move" and more "I have an answer to every problem" And then you've got chars that are just like... "Neutral? You mean that one time I need to use my 5 bar super to just skip with a 2f move that hits from far too far and heal 1000hp in the process?" (Lookin' at you Vixen) Out of curiosity, which ones have you tried?
ive tried springtrap, the spot, lumberjack, vixen (that dash is OP), PRAY(SO OP THEY HAVE A NEUTRAL SKIPPING DASH) engineer, omen and mob boss (my favourite with the spot second)
@@Jimmymacawoo there’re a few packs on the workshop with many chars in them. My personal faves are Metatherm, Bard, as of late Omen, and Sata! (Warned on the first one, be sure to check out the guide and vids cuz they’re a little… different. From most hustlers. Minimal combo game, maximum burst damage, and batshit “okikamikaze” mixups. And explosions. Lots and lots of explosions…)
Would love a modded joke character XD, not a "funny" character, not some op idiot with funny moves, I mean an actual weak yee yee ass character, just an overall bad option, that doesn't do much damage in game but excells at dealing emotional damage, someone give us an actual joke character

I do love the yomi hustle mods, but there is admittedly a reason I don't play online much with them on. Mostly use those for scripted fights.

I really want to make vanilla teir characters for this reason. Its no fun when you wanna use a base game character but every mod is so op it just isn't possible. And if most characters are balanced for vanilla they can all be used fairly. I feel like making your mod op nakes it less likely people will play it with others.

@@Jimmymacawoo Oh yeah, BunBun is one of the longest standing and high quality mods on the workshop.
First time I tried mods, I stumbled upon something funny. I noticed my oponent had Fallen, so obviously, since Im dumb, I was sure they wont pick broken character (I got it for singleplayer replays), and picked very weak and outdated mod (god slaying slash looks to good to pass up), and played reverant. My Fallen oponent werent that good, as I took more than half of their hp before they touched me, but they did something verid- stayed in air entire match, while spamming chant. I had no idea what they were doing, so I just hustled and used their lack of air options to harras them in the interwals between flights. I thought I got this. But then, they threw the sun at me. Yes, thats right, they threw THE SUN. so of course, I perfect parried it. but it turns out, it deals damage each 5 frames or so, wich means you have to keep pparrying to stay alive. but then they just walked to me, and attacked low wich killed me(I was at low hp and couldn block or I would die). At least they were nice and we talked during whole ordeal

Edit: Alright I'm back... I suspect you both will and won't be happy to hear Diavolo has a "completely accurate boss version" in the works that doesn't even try to have any balance... it'll be a separate mod though.
It'd also be great if you could send me any replay files of Diavolo breaking, I'm kinda at least partially in charge of fixing any instability related to him.
Though if they're older than the 18th then the bugs might've been fixed.
I'm a little surprised you didn't grab like, Kether, Red Mist, and Nytreon (a bit biased but they're probably my 3 favorite non-Noq/InklessBrush ones).
Honestly I'd recommend Nytreon a lot, he's probably one of the BEST balanced characters I've seen.
Noq and InklessBrush characters are absolutely amazing although they tend to be a touch on the powerful side. (Putting aside Torment who's not supposed to be balanced)
Engineer's hitstun: I have zero clue what's up with it either.
If you want me to, I could give you a workshop collection collection where I've been trying to roughly sort out character quality, and to a limited extent power. I'm probably gonna create a very slim category of "close to vanilla"
Edit 2: Oh right, I forgot Delinquent. I know reception on that character is highly mixed but they have a really high skill ceiling and I'd probably put them at roughly vanilla balanced overall.
Also, MultiHustle uh... Well it exists. If you ever decide to play around with it, I'm sorry that it's not entirely stable yet. Also hopefully it'll have proper online support soon™

mods are completely broken but i kinda love it that way
The only thing keeping me (and probably a good 10% of the YOMI mod community) from making a balanced character that belongs on the roster is that sweet baby Christ the base roster is utterly cracked compared to literally any fighting game character that isn’t just doing a two button infinite. Cowboy could probably take an entire Skullgirls trio out, even if they also got TAS magic and every assist available at the same time.
So either I’m going to come out the other end with MUGEN Ronald McDonald or crap

Yomi hustle is pretty fun I must admit but toribash takes the spot of the number 1 turn based game in my opinion

I think the most broken thing about modded characters is the frame disa. goddamn, every time miko hit me once is a 60 frame disa. with a basic hit, wtf

1. It feels cheaty when I use them.
2. I hate playing against them.

As a yomi ModDev. im trying my best to fix all the op stuff…. but using them is *kinda* fun

there's the suckers like Kali, Vixen and Omen but most of the mods are super fun and some are pretty well balanced like elder and goren (correct me if im wrong). also, mods open up the window for more cool singleplayer fight scenes
ok after further experience i rescind my statement about elder, he's super strong, but delinquent and nakmuay feel fairly vanilla balancing wise and are super fun to play
another opinion i wish you kind of touched on: mod characters try too hard to be cool.
look at cowboy. look at it's supers. compare to someone like Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear, look at his su- er... overdrives and his instant kill. sol has his tyrant rave, where he punches up then hits his enemy with his weapon, dragon install, which (in GGST, at least) is a grab where sol goes fucking DEMON MODE, races forward hand outstreched, picks up his opponent and slams them on the ground, and finally, his instant kill, which, in xrd, at least.. you just gotta see it for yourself. what does cowboy have? a faster teleport, a delayed bullet, and 1000 cuts. the closest thing that he has to some dramatic finish super move.. is his lasso. specifically the inuza drop or whatever it's called exactly. in fact, all of the character's supers are these. the only one that comes close is the ever-legendary kill process. what makes the game cool isnt the moves by themselves, it's the wacky shit you can get up to using them.
and the MEANWHILE theres a MODDED CHARACTER OUT THERE thats just KATANA USER 181924819048109284 that has a super where they CUT OFF A FUCKING CHUNK OF THE SUN AND SEND IT DOWN ON THEIR OPPONENT. How? why???? does the world of yomi hustle even HAVE a sun??? what IS the world of yomi hustle?????? what the fuck????????? why????????????

@@Jimmymacawoo If this is about Fallen, then that move is actually hilariously impractical because to do it you need to do what is essentially a Hustle that costs a bar of Meter instead of gaining it, and you have to do it uninterrupted 9 times. Don't get me wrong, Fallen is really strong since it's essentially a high effort joke mod a la the Ronald McDonald and 100% Accurate mods for Rivals of Aether, but the sun carving move is only there to flex and to reference Sephiroth's "Supernova" attack since, yanno, Fallen IS Sephiroth.

Ironically, 70% of the workshop gets bodied by the vanilla cast once you know *the tiny friggin' window of opimal play* for them. Most chars are tailored deep into a very specific playstyle and lack breadth, making them very predictable.
Ones balanced around the vanilla cast on the other hand are less "get into this specific scenario and press the win move" and more "I have an answer to every problem"
And then you've got chars that are just like... "Neutral? You mean that one time I need to use my 5 bar super to just skip with a 2f move that hits from far too far and heal 1000hp in the process?" (Lookin' at you Vixen)
Out of curiosity, which ones have you tried?
ive tried springtrap, the spot, lumberjack, vixen (that dash is OP), PRAY(SO OP THEY HAVE A NEUTRAL SKIPPING DASH) engineer, omen and mob boss (my favourite with the spot second)

My personal faves are Metatherm, Bard, as of late Omen, and Sata!
(Warned on the first one, be sure to check out the guide and vids cuz they’re a little… different. From most hustlers. Minimal combo game, maximum burst damage, and batshit “okikamikaze” mixups. And explosions. Lots and lots of explosions…)

Imo john yomi is the worst offender as well as torment. Psycho is a relatively balanced character besides one of its supers and nakumay sucks ass
