    Hi Mark, Fluval's done a smart move to involve you in these videos.
    I can recognise your aquascaping in that tank : branching rock at the base to support the rest of the aquascape.
    Well done Fluval, keep collaborating with Mark, your customers will get more for their money.

    I am curious why you didn't use your usual cycling with fish method here?

  • @busyhobs

    Another daft question! Where is the ammonia coming from in the cycle you describe. I have live sand and natural seawater but couldn’t get live rock!

      Hi there! You can introduce nitrogen (which becomes ammonia) with Fluval Cycle! You can learn about it here: fluvalaquatics.com/us/shop/product/water-care

    Hello, I just purchased a 13.5 EVO myself. My heater sticks up farther than the cover will allow me to close. If I push the heater down lower, the water will be above the allowed line for the heater. Do you just keep your back cover off?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryan, no worries, the water line indication on the Fluval M heater is the minimum line, you can push the heater down if it is in fact a Fluval M Heater, then closing the rear hood segment is not an issue.

    Dear Fluval -
    I bought a Fluval Edge and want to cycle my tank. I did not find any info on when to incorporate the light schedule during the cycling period. Please advise.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are setting up a marine aquarium with uncured live rock the lights are usually not on until it is cycled and you start to stock the tank.

  • @555rzk

    Still using the lights that comes with the tank.. im new to the hobby , any recommendation on how long do i keep the white lights on , and what about the blue lights ?
    Thank you

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Emilio, if you are keeping live coral in the aquarium you will need to provide lighting for approximately 10hrs. per day (white and blue), you can start and end the day with 1 hr. of blue only. If there are no live coral being kept and only a couple of small fish then approximately 6 to 8 hours is sufficient.

    My pump will not go into slot as shown on instructions and the heater hit it is this a problem?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We recommend you review with your local fish store, the included pump and a Fluval 50 W M heater easily install in the rear compartment.

    My tank is currently cycling. The nitrate level is relatively high; how do i reduce this?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perform partial water changes with water that contains no nitrate. Post an initial break in cycle it is normal to see nitrate accumulation, we strongly recommend you reduce it through partial water changing to under 10 ppm.

    I have 3 fresh water tanks and will be trying my 1st saltwater tank in a month. Question.., are clowns truly happy in a 12 gallon tank? How many fish total? I would like.., 2 clowns and 2 or 3 other fish. I was thinking no less than a 20 gallon tank for saltwater fish. I like the Evo except that it's only 12 gallons. What should I do? If you feel 12 gallon tank is fine.., pls let me know. If not.., what "all in one" tank would you suggest? Thank you

    • @fluval
      @fluval  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While 1 pair of a small species of clownfish would be ok, we can think of better choices. Can you let me know the internal dimensions of the display tank please? I'm trying to plan my rock work before i get one. Thanks

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stuart good idea to plan your layout, the approximate internal dimensions of the EVO 13.5 aquarium excluding the filter compartment are: 18.5 inches long X 11.25 inches wide X 14.75 inches high.

    Whilst cycling how water changes, if any...

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once nitrite has peaked and remained high for two weeks it is generally safe to commence strong partial water changes of 25 to 50% weekly, this typically accelerates the process. We say generally in the absence of hard numbers and the many other factors that do affect the rate of nitrification...

    Informative video......but I find it funny that the fluval cycle bottle says "add fish immediately" when Mark is telling people to be patience and test water until parameters are within reason. Mark being in the right and fluval in the wrong. Got to love fluval marketing.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bottle clearly indicates, “when all necessary conditions have been provided.” Mark is doing a good job of explaining how to apply Cycle to a Fluval product (EVO) in complete accordance with our instructions. We thank you for your comment regarding our marketing practices, but an appreciation of the manner in which Fluval puts effort into backing their product up this way is way more valuable in our opinion.

    • @ManhattanAquatics
      @ManhattanAquatics 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Fluval Aquatics I understand that, but your average consumer who reads "add fish immediately" on a bottle will do just that. Many large petstores like petco who sell fluval in high volume won't stop their customer from buying everything in a single shot because they are making a lot of money. Plus I can't remember the last time I found a good informative employee in one of those stores.

    What kind of life can the light on this thing generally support? Lps,
    sps, maxima clam, anemone? I would really appreciate a response I'm new
    to saltwater and I find lighting the most complex part of it. I'm sure
    this would help anyone wanting to buy this.
    Also would a cheap small little powerhead be beneficial to add in, or
    too much flow and only for the very most demanding additions and
    generally to stay away from? I see people saying light, circulation, and
    water quality are biggest factors for saltwater success and this guy
    only touched on water quality.
    Thank you so much I really hope you find the time to respond

    Do you run the protein skimmer during cycling. And if not do you need to remove it from the tank

    So I don't need ammonia?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taylor, ammonia is a toxic nitrogen compound that you do not want to be measuring in your aquarium. As Mark correctly states in this video, in regards to the nitrogen cycle, because of the lack of nitrifying bacteria. This is a problem especially in new aquariums. To avoid ammonia issues, stock lightly, feed lightly, seed the filter with established media from a healthy aquarium and add a product like Fluval Biological Enhancer/Cycle, it contains ideal strains of nitrifying bacteria. To help you build a better understanding, please use this link to take you to our fluvalaquatics.com Did You Know section that specifically addresses water care, we suggest you read through our 3 part series on Biological Water Care Solutions: www.fluvalaquatics.com/ca/explore/did-you-know/water-care/
