I do hv patience but curious what method you would suggest for a newbie. Also.., does the Evo hv low iron glass. Also watched your video with the best home tank you ever saw.., the one in the garage with 2,400 gallons. Wow..! His wife must be a saint. I hv watched a ton of instructional videos but Mr. SWT.., You da Man.

    I've always wanted to start a salt water fish tank. This seems like a easy beginner tank that doesn't seem to complicated. I've done fresh water for about 10 years but salt water always seems financially impossible.

    • @dubsydabster
      @dubsydabster 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      byfuzzerabbit it's nuts to get into but if you have the time and money I recommend it. There is nothing like staring at some happy corals. Be aware though. This little tank will suck you into the hobby faster than you'd believe. I've had mine a month or two and now I was a 60 gallon frag tank. Take your time building the tank is the best advice I have.

    Small little beautiful tank, what kind of subtrade are you using? Is that crush coral?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crushed coral or coral sand can be used, preferably live coral sand for generally best results. In this video which was shot 2 years ago the substrate appears to be crushed coral.

    it'd be really nice if you could make a video on how to adjust/operate the skimmer for this tank. I've only found one so far but it's not very specific. I believe mine is defective, I've brought it back to the store so they can check it for me, no matter what I do I cannot control the water level and the collection cup fills completely with water, and the only way I get bubbles is to completely remove the top of the air valve.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Allison, stay tuned, we will be. In your case it sounds like you need to adjust the level of the collection cup upwards, you do that by sliding the surrounding O ring downwards. If you wish you may PM at info@fluvalaquatics.com

    Do you have any micro bubbles from the skimmer getting into the display?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Timothy, there are usually no issues with micro bubbles as the skimmer itself does have a small piece of foam at the water outlet and from there all water must traverse a large filtration fine foam block, basically impossible for micro bubbles to get through. When the aquarium is new or when performing maintenance on the foam block, make sure to saturate it with water and work out any air, in that instance there can be some air pockets that will work themselves out over time, not from the skimmer in that case of course.

    How do you set up the light with a timer so that you have consistency?
    Such as moon light for a little bit first thing in the morning then bright light for a few hours then moon light again and then for it to turn off for night time
    Thank you

    • @fluval
      @fluval  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martika, the typical photo period would be from 10 to 12 hrs. of light per day for an aquarium containing living coral. Having a period where the light typically illuminates gradually at sunrise to maximum light during the day and then gradually dims at sunset at best. Sunrise and sunset periods can be set for an hour each.

    I have the PS2 in the Evo 12 and getting some serious micro bubbles. It's still breaking in but was wondering where I should keep the water level to help with this?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We recommend keeping the water level in the aquarium and in the rear filter compartment half way up the intake grid.
      It will take a few days for the protein skimmer to “settle down” however adjusting the control knob of the skimmer will take some precise movement. Never twist the control knob more than 0.5 to 1 mm at time. Separately, make sure the exhaust screen (foam block) at the skimmer exhaust is in place as it helps to collect any bubbles exiting the protein skimmer.

      Adjusting the skimmer has much to do with the water level and ensuring that is a constant, evaporation in a small aquarium means very regular topping up with a small amount of R/O make up water. Mushrooms, zooanthids, small colt and kenya soft coral, ricordea are options.....

    So I got this tank and the Protein Skimmer and the all the skimmer does is cause massive amounts of micro bubble it the tank. the bubbles are coming out of the seams of the skimmer... the body of the skimmer isnt sealed. Feeling like a got ripped off. But Hoping someone has some advice.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The protein skimmer is adjustable in terms of positioning as is output so that you can ensure no to very few bubbles are emitted from the output. By positioning the body of the skimmer within its bracket slightly higher than you current position you can effectively eliminate micro-bubbles.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean what should the partial water change % be, we recommend a solid 25%- 50% every two weeks.

    • @nateblumenthal4617
      @nateblumenthal4617 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea that is what I was wondering. Now in FW we do fifty percent a week, is that preferred because on the reef forums that's what it sounds like?

    • @fluval
      @fluval  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A small reef tank such as this should be lightly stocked with fish and inverts, therefore 25 to 50% is very adequate.

      Yes, water will evaporate continuously, the rate at which it does varies with a number of factors. Given the small volume it is important to meticulously top up with freshwater to maintain a constant specific gravity as well as to have proper skimmer function.

      Hi Dylan , we are sorry to hear that you are having some trouble! Normally this happens due to the filter sponge insert being overly dirty. The debris will prevent the aquarium water from passing through the sponge resulting in the pump returning all the water before the reservoir has a chance to refill itself. It is actually 13.5 gallons, here is a link to the product page for your review on this aquarium; www.fluvalaquatics.com/ca/product/10531-evo-aquarium-kit/#.WSSkN5IrLcs

      Hi, the 52 L EVO aquarium will be available in the UK around October.

      What kind of life can the light on this thing generally support? Lps, sps, maxima clam, anemone? I would really appreciate a response I'm new to saltwater and I find lighting the most complex part of it. I'm sure this would help anyone wanting to buy this.
      Also would a cheap small little powerhead be beneficial to add in, or too much flow and only for the very most demanding additions and generally to stay away from? I see people saying light, circulation, and water quality are biggest factors for saltwater success and this guy only touched on water quality.
      Thank you so much I really hope you find the time to respond.

      Thanks for asking, but do consider that we purposely try to keep our videos to the point, and this means we won't necessarily cover everything that is important. That said, clams, most SPS and anemones, with the exception of small bubble tip anemones (because they prefer rock surfaces and will move up rock structure to the light, although a bubble tip will eventually outgrow the aquarium), are not suitable for the EVO aquarium. Many LPS, polyps and related are suitable.
      Yes, lighting can be a complex subject because to really know what an animal would fare best under, you would need to know what light it has flourished and grown under (PAR and spectrum). Often, this information is not available on the animals you actually purchase. We suggest lower to mid-light corals and invertebrates.
      We do agree that a list outlining suitable choices would be very helpful, and we will address this very soon with an article we'll publish in the Did you Know? section of our our Website: fluvalaquatics.com/us/explore/did-you-know/
      Finally, adding one or two Fluval SEA CP-1 circulation pumps (depending on the corals you keep) is a good idea.

      +WaterspoutsOfTheDeep yeah if I was you I would look for another tank larger with a refugium under the tank with better lighting, will save you money in the long run to get it right first time.

    With a tank this size you don't need a skimmer and you shouldn't have charcoal all the time!

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would have to disagree, a skimmer is always beneficial, while carbon can be used when it is required.

    Not downing your work. just letting people the filter on this doesn't do a good job. Also people you need to buy about 200$ worth of stuff to make it run good.

    I will never buy a thing from this company. I read so many awful reviews of how the Fluval Spec V tank has killed their small bettas and other fish. They get sucked into the filter area, even on the lowest setting. Ripped the poor fish to shreds. Horrible to have read so many accounts of this happening.

    • @fluval
      @fluval  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darren, we can honestly say we have yet to see a betta suffer in anyway in a Fluval Spec tank either in our own tanks housing a number of different male bettas in the aquatic cave here at HQ nor have we heard of them ever being ripped to shreds, which is really impossible as the inlet section is divided from the pump output chamber by significant amounts of filtration foam which allows no access by any fish.
