Just to be clear is it a rubber protector for you walrus or a protector for your rubber walrus? Let me know and I will check with Leatt. They seem to protect most things.🤔
That was a really cool ride Lance. As a guy wih little jumoing experience your idea of a neonatal jump makes me realise I'm still in the embryo stage! Maybe Leatt will do some merch for you?
Never do a ride without my Impact 5.0 shorts. On the narly days out I add the stealth top, 3df 6.0 knee and elbow. Had some crashes that would have taken me out for months but walked away from and continued riding. Love the Leatt kit.
Must admit haven't tried impact shorts for a long time. I had a pair years ago but didn't like the feel. I should try the Leatt ones. They do make cool stuff.
Yea man once you discover the trails are gravel its a new scene and more care to worry about. Plus doing it by yourself and if you came off. Its a game changer. Te miro is it.👌🤙
Just back from morning ride here in Western Australia hot this time ofyear Love my Stealth Leatt armour keeps you cool even in Summer enjoy Cheers Mate p.s you would love it here it's all pea gravel very exciting in Summer
3:08 I've crash tested those pads. They weren't so comfortable, but were quite breathable. They are only intended for light riding, and minor crashes. They also leave deep imprints even a day after. I wasn't impressed with the pads, they the padding is too thin for bigger impacts and the pads crack. I didn’t want a replacement, so I opted for a refund. But got to keep the pads, but I didn't want to use them to use them, I gave the away to someone in my local club, I asked, and she said she wants them. But I admit I crashed with them, but the pads looked fine, no cracks, but after some use, and then laying on a shelf I noticed cracking. Weird. The cracking was on both knee pads, and both elbow pads, I didn't even hit the left knee. only right knee. I only used them a few weeks before they failed. So what ever happen wasn't caused by impacts. I didn't even impact my elbows. To me it seems like it's the joint movement that causes failure. I use Pearl Izumi Elevate pads now isntead, at least as breathable, bigger venting holes, soft and 1cm D3O padding, super light and comfy.
Thanks for all the feed back. A lot to unpack there. The knee and elbow pads are new so will see if they crack at all. I have ridden with lots of pads but for me being breathable and comfortable is really important. If body armour is uncomfortable I end up not wearing it.
@bestdayevermtb2 maybe mine had a faulty pad material, maybe it was a bad batch, but I was not impressed. But they were too thin fo eme, as I hit my knee on a rock after falling on 1m roller. My knee was saved but I could barely move it for weeks. But I think Poc Vpd2.0 DH would've hanfled it better but those were like a sauna, I kept getting rashes. So I tried these, but eventually found Pearl Izumi Elevate, but not crash tested them yet,buy they are super breathable and light, comfy. But the Leatt Knee Guard 3DF 5.0 Evo look interesting.
I see you weren't a fan of the gravel. We added that in the winter as it was simply unrideable for 10 months of the year. We're expecting it to bed in a bit better once some more wet weather hits and be riding awesome most of the year. Agree that we probably need to sweep some of the larger loose stuff off. If you ever want a couple of old fellas to chase down soiled chamois give us a shout. You might have to wait at the top for us though as we're mainly riding analogue bikes. 😂
I make a lot of excuses for lack of skill. They added gravel at 440, and lots of people complained. 12 months later, and it has bedded in and rides better all year round. I think I have soiled chamois, so a tow in would be great.
7:00 So far only Leatt stuff I have are the Size S Leatt MTB 4.0 Lite gloves, I got them June 2022, they are super breathable, it's like not having anything on as I feel the breeze everywhere, even the palm of my hand, but overpriced. But they are fragile. But tips fail at the palm material, and the top. Good I bought it on a sale, around 50 % off, but still pricy. But I already tore all of my pairs and repaired them probably 4 times already, but some are too badly worn to be repaired any more at the tips with just sewing it, so would need to add material myself. I think I have 4 pairs. Sizing: Leatt Small, Poc Medium, on Giro probably medium, Endura probably Small.
1:58 This one looks interesting. I see it uses the 1cm thick 3DF padding. I wonder how it performs compared to D3O. Seems like this protective jacket will be quite breathable. This is on a whole different level than the knee pads you showed later. Imo they should discontinue those knee pads, and instead do new ones with thick D3O padding. The thin pads are redundant.
@@jokermtb Thx for sharing, I just looked into those. I see they use 3DF padding, I read it's slightly firmer than D3O. Design wise it's similar. If it does as good, with many wash cycles, and using it a long time and take big impacts. Then it's good. But so far what I have works. If the sleeves fail I will repair them. But the Pearl Izumi pads slip, so did the Leatt pads he shows. But that's in mid summer head and sweating lots.
@@mtbboy1993 I got these new 5.0's to replace my Dainese Trail Skin Air kneepads (extremely well ventilated) as the fabric is losing it's ability to keep them in place after two/three years of lots of use. These new 5.0's fit like suction cups around my knee (they really sculpted em well) and the silicone grippers really hold them in place - the shaping helps this greatly as they really conform to the knee. It's winter here so I've not had them in the scorching hot summer weather, but tucked under riding pants and long underwear, they are incredibly comfortable and always stay put.
The Leatt Airflex Pro knee pads are the most comfortable and less sweaty I've had. I see they've been replaced with a new model but I'll get them next. I just have to be careful not to catch the fabric on my flats pins.
@@bestdayevermtb2 A stationary bike in the garage is the most dangerous for me these days. In tight situations riding uphill I need to be ready to put a foot down at a millisecond's notice.
22000 subscribers could be a good reason for Leatt to continue helping you out. Just wondering if Leatt do Bar ends you would certainly get to try them out
I took a few pretty low speed falls with the leatt airflex body protector, An otb on frozen ground, with a crash flat on the back. The back protector probabbly saved me a few broken vertebrea and ribs and at least 6 months of rehab but it still was a painfull blow that ended my ride and took about 6 weeks to get back to normal, with a level 2 protector i probably would have been able to continue riding. Another light crash, low speed front wheel washout, fell on the shoulder, also on frozen ground. The shoulder pad probably prevented the collarbone from breaking but i still had a light separation of the shoulder,... A level 2 protection might have made a big difference there as well. On a ride with higher consequences i prefer to use the level 2 airfit, the 5.0 impact shorts and the 7idp sam hill knee pads, if the consequences are lower orthe level 2 is just to hot/ heavy it would become the airflex, endura protective shorts and old 661 knee/ shin protectors or level 1 7idp knee pad. On some rides it's on,y a helmet,..
I used to only wear protection on days I was crashing. The problem is that I would get my days muddled up. In all seriousness, though, I like to wear as little as possible. If it is too hot or uncomfortable, then I simply don't bother.
@bestdayevermtb2 In a few years the protection/ heat dilemma might be solved with airbags, for now it's a ride to ride gamble,.. If a patch of gravel is the biggest concern on an flowy, low consequences trail within your comfort zone, a decent backpack with a bladder and a helmet might be the best compromise, if the patch of gravel is the relief inbetween mud, wet roots and wet rocks and 80% of the riders crash at least once in the enduro race a bit more protection might be a good idea,...
@@kanaalvanNI The funny thing is when riding on the road with the risk of being hit by a car or coming off on tar seal a helmet is all we wear. I must admit when I was heavily into racing especially Downhill I got injured a fair bit.
@bestdayevermtb2 The road racers might be the first to be obligated to carry an airbag and to wear tear reinforced fabrics,... UCI is actively looking on how to improve riders safety. Things are changing.
The gravel shouldn’t be an issue with appropriate modern tyres, and decent technique and modern bike. You shouldn’t lose grip too easily. But really loose gravel might be an issue if it's lots of it, and one can’t control la skid. BUt gravel was never an issue for me unless I had semi slicks on rough loose gravel or rough gravel on asphalt with semi slick. But what I see in this video, shouldn’t be an issue. But always good to do a test ride on a trail you don't know.
Do they make rubber walrus protectors? 🦭🐴

Lance of course we all wear Leatt gear now because of you. We started off as sheep following you but realized the gear is AWESOME.

Looking very slim and smart in your new Leatt gear
Leatt guarantees you will look 10kg lighter in their kit.😂

I just got the new Leatt 3DF 5.0 Evo Knee Guards. Best fitting pad Ive ever tried
