Deke, I love every time I see you teaching. You taught me Illustrator 8. You helped me so much in my career. Funny the only new tool I have been using is the "arrow tool enclosed mode". Again, thanks for being awesome. When I hit my slow season I am going to subscribe to your Patreon and really freshen up!
Oh your commentary was spot on and just exemplary - I've not laughed so much for a long time. Loved the retype commentary! 10x. Ctrl B for bold is AI on steroids 🙂
hi how are you my teacher i wanna ask you about Illustrator one-on-one 2023 Will it be later or not you are best teacher of the world thank you very much
My plan is to update Illustrator One-on-One later this year, after I finish Photoshop. In the meantime, my go-to at LinkedIn Learning is the Advanced course, www.linkedin.com/learning/illustrator-one-on-one-advanced.
I love, love, love the Enclosed mode. I spent my first 15 years as a designer using Corel Draw and that's how they do it. It was extremely disruptive for me when I switched to AI (I guess I can't call it that anymore. How about Illy?) Anyway, I was never on board with how Illy would select things. If you have a busy drawing then, what, the normal selection method selects everything? Was really happy to see this new mode implemented. And thanks for bringing it up again because I forgot how to invoke it. Also thanks for the bit on Saving selections. I'm on of those who never bothered with them, but now see their usefulness.
Now that Humane is coming out with an Ai Pin (lowercase i as in Illustrator icon), Illy might just have to do. This is all good news! One question: What do you think of tapping the E key for the enclosed mode? It’s just, I dunno, so Un-Illy.
@@dekeNow Actually I think it's very Illy. Which, to me, isn't a good thing. Illustrator always has unintuitive modifiers and "secret handshake" key combinations to get a lot things done. This is just what I would have expected from them, more of the same ol' thing. Who would think to tap "E" for this? I guess that stands for "Enclosed Mode" but it's not really intuitive. Especially since you have to "tap" it, and only at the right time. That's what I mean about having to learn secret handshakes. All that aside, I actually used it today on a postcard and, thanks to your video, I remembered the secret handshake. It worked great. Love it.
@@dekeNow Corel solve that 20+ years ago. There is regular enclosed, and when Alt key is pressed it is just touching the object. Alt(Opt) is already used in Illy.

And in CorelDraw if you press Alt while selecting, it will work like in Illustrator.

@@johnstanowski9489 Hey, hey! That’s awesome! (Not the secret handshake aspect. It is an odd trick.)

You didn't show that it is possible to round corners of a star.
Knew I forgot something.
