You know, I read something about that, too, dire. When I go to concerts, I listen for just that very thing, and look to see who is clapping. When I watch people dance, I look for the same thing. It's very true. I'm white, and I know your comments weren't based on discrimmination, but science.
White audiences usually don't. I don't say that with any sense of discrimination because music is colorblind. However, I believe there has been some scientific study into the idea that white listeners gravitate towards the "up-beat" in music while black listeners gravitate towards the "down-beat". Weathers, who takes deep musical influence from R&B and Soul plays this tune to a down-beat, but the crowd (which I assume is largely white) claps to the up-beat. Happens all the time. No biggie.
