HARVINDER S. SACHDEV The 9 p.m bulletin is a prime time, peak hour bulletin which has to be exceptionally outstanding from the perspective of news presentation. Mr.Awathi, sadly enough, does not fit the bill and that is putting it very mildly. He, at times, appears to be shaky, wobbly, little confused and has a voice which, if judged by the stringent parameters of voice audition, which includes quality of a rich timbre, shall fail miserably. A news presenter, when facing the camera, must appear to be completely at ease and in complete command. Harsh words ? Perhaps, but completely objective. Contrast his body language with that of Nidhi Kulpati and Naghma who come out with flying colours the moment they come on the screen. They are completely relaxed, radiant, very warm and in direct connect with the viewers. Nidhi Kulpati's hour long bulletin at 8 p.m. on 5th November, on US Presidential election, was absolutely a brilliant and expert job and shall prove the point I am trying to make !
