  • A trip to Rossall featuring an aircraft infringement (not me thankfully) & James Walker of Attitude Airsports checking my plane out for me.

    Hmm very interesting situation. I admire Anna's empathy towards a fellow human over that pilots position he found himself in. We are not perfect.

    I love the way the passenger keeps reassuring the pilot when it's normally the other way round :)

    Excellent hand holding response from the ATC, who having heard over the years impatient controllers with shall we say poorly prepared pilots, deserves a 10.

    • @LetsGoFlying

      Definitely. He was very fair and stayed calm with the pilots safety at the forefront of what he was trying to achieve. To be fair all of the controllers at Manchester are absolutely excellent.

    The controller really couldn’t have been nicer but I guess the MOR is inevitable? Bound to be some conversations somewhere as a result… great video though Nick! 😊

      Jury’s out for me on that. I think some education is in order for sure but I don’t like the stigma of an “infringement”. If you bust airspace through altitude in the MLLR then, to me that’s a hands down infringement. If it’s a “wrong squawk” then it seems a bit harsh but 3 issues in a row does kind of warrant some education at the least or even a clearer system for people as the rules have changed a lot over the years.

    Excellent episode. The low level corridor looks like fun. Your procedures are spot on, well done. Mark one eyeball and your expression to Anna not realising was hilarious. She is such a great sport and makes a great co-pilot. Please keep them coming, you are both lovely people to watch. Hope to come across you both some time in TG. Thanks for the content.

      Thank you! Yes - it's definitely an interesting section of airspace! I don't mind it but others absolutely hate it. I did one of my solo QXC flights into the corridor many years ago so I guess that's one of the reasons why I'm so comfortable zooming up and down there!

  • @theflyingfool
    @theflyingfool ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Very interesting episode thanks. The ATCO was really good.
    I set the wrong QNH on my QXC from Sleap to Blackpool (1003 instead of 1013) some years ago, the consequence was me "entering" the LLR 300ft higher than my planned 1200ft, so very definitely an airspace infringement! Manchester ATC picked it up very quickly & asked me what I'd set. I felt very embarrassed & so far have never repeated that mistake 🤞

    • @LetsGoFlying
      @LetsGoFlying  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's easily done isn't it! Now that I am based inside the low level route I think it's only a matter of time before I do something wrong myself and it'll be something silly. Obviously I am trying to mitigate that risk as much as I can but I think it's important not to get complacent! Thanks for sharing.

    That was a really interesting video demonstrating how different aircraft have different operating limitations..ie gloves. The low level route doesn't give many options does it. I remember ( when you videoed us) on route to St Micheals ;)

      I agree! We all have something different to think about! I have had flights like that where everything just seems to be against you. I really felt for that pilot. I hope he learns from it and gets back on the horse right away.

      Thank you! Yes - I can’t really argue with that end result in this situation. Due to the repeated issues, it does seem that some education is in order, although I’m not sure the punishment fits the crime in specialist airspace. I suppose there is arguments for both.

    Crikey, there's an LLR mandatory squawk now? Back in the day in the Chipmunk we didn't even have a radio never mind a transponder and we played in the LLR regularly (sometimes quite low - I'm not say how low!). I've even flown into Manchester a few times with no xponder ("Seierra Lima no radar contact but I know you're out there somewhere. I've got a Trident on a 5 mile final for 24 so just hold at Sale water Park and let me know when you get him in sight"). ;-)
    Nice vid.Thanks.
    BTW I always liked OHJs. I know some don't.

    • @LetsGoFlying

      Yes! Mandatory in there now. The CAA are currently doing a review of the airspace though as everyone is of the way of thinking that there must be a better way of doing it!

      It was a lovely trip. One of Anna's favourites of the year so far! NIIX does have air vents but when its 30 degrees its basically 30 degree air blowing at you so it doesn't do a whole lot of good! When you are flying is a lot better than being sat on the ground in that kind of heat waiting to take off though that's for sure! Thanks for watching!
