I understand the modern iteration of ocean travel. For those who can’t face jam packed airplane travel, a slow ship to your destination sounds lovely. However please be advised that a circus atmosphere dominates. Events all day long, food, music, ice skating, miniature golf, yada . I’m only sorry that the transatlantic trips that were standard for my family in the 1950s and 60s traveling regularly from New York and Le Havre are no more. In those days France, Britain, Italy, and Germany and the US had beautiful ships that made the journey in 5/6 nights. Days were spent reading, writing letters, playing bridge, walking the decks. Evenings were formal except for first and last nights. My grandmother had made me a pale blue taffeta evening dress so that after formal dinner I could accompany my parents to the grand ballroom where I drank my Shirley Temple and swooned over watching my father in his tux and mother in a Schapparelli gown dance to a Miles Davis Orchestra. I have believed myself to be in love several times in my adulthood, but never so deeply as one time I did so on a ship.

Fascinating! Sounds completely different to the chaotic stress of long-haul flights!
