Great video, and very cool research project. We did something similar with spotted-eagle-rays over here in Bimini several years back. Luckily, we still seem to have a decent population of them around here, or so it seems.
We usually see schools of about 4-12, but every now and then find groups of 50-60+ rays. Got some underwater HD footage of eagle rays if you ever need it for anything.

I accidentally caught one last night, and it was only about 15-20 lbs, but it was so incredibly powerful for its size.

No wonder they swim away from us divers when we try to get near them :)

So lovely...beautiful....and the spotted eagle rays she studies are nice too:) But seriously, we have Aetobatus here in Hawaii too, they are true treasures of nature. Though I felt for the eagle rays distress while she was being studied and sampled, anything to even possibly protect them from the awful butchery of these angels of the sea. I felt sick to my stomach looking at them reduced to cuts of meat:(

I vacation sometimes in south Florida and one night while I was fishing near a light on the dock a huge spotted fish swam by. It took awhile for me to process it but he bumped my line so I ripped up and I belly hooked a poor remora. I always thought it must have been a baby whale shark but it's possible that I exaggerated it's size. It was massive though

It's not eagle rays. It's mobula rays. Eagle rays have very long tail and their skin is mottled on the back.
