    I was waiting for this... At 3 minutes and 20 seconds when she mentions the sea lions! When I lived in San Francisco there was an attack of a sea lion on a female swimmer in Aquatic Bay, she lived but as I recall had a chunk of her calf taken out. I swam off Ocean Beach another cold waters but that stretch intimidated me for just that reason... I don't know if it's still part but just about a decade ago a swim to Alcatraz was 1/3 of a triathlon... What a feeling it must be! Thanks for the segment, because that's as close as I'm going to get to that cold Bay!!

      There was an attack on a sea lion by a great white shark at Alcatraz, the universe is balancing things out

      @@MisfitsFiendClub138 currently in Seattle we have whale sightings in Elliott Bay but I have yet to hear of a shark attack! Everyone assumes sea lions are docile with their big eyes and fur but they have canines that would rival a lion! Last year paddling on the Willamette River in Oregon sea lions were coming up beside my kayak, I felt safe as long as I was in my kayak but it was fascinating to see them so close!

    Me and a bunch of women took the plunge inRossbeigh, Co Kerry Ireland today. It was 9 C. My first ever wild winter swim. Brutal! Like I was on fire. My fingers and toes went numb v quickly, my skin was red all over, I stayed submerged for 5 minutes and then wobbled out of the water. Worked on slowing down my breathing . We all felt proud afterwards for doing it. I think it’s probably better to just swim in the ocean all year and not put the togs away in Sept. We plan to continue 1-2 times a month through the rest of the winter and spring. The coldest water I had ever swam in before was 17 C and I thought that was freezing! We are all in our late 50’s … menopausal moment?

    My dad was a member for years and he used to bring us to the club the night before Bay to Breakers, Dipsea runs, etc. There was always a huge spaghetti feed. I have fond memories from the late 60's/early 70's. I would see the polar bear swimmers (still do) and think how cool, yet crazy it was to be swimming in the bay! And sorry, I'm not buying, "sharks are not interested in you" said the person who was later eaten by a shark!

    December 2004, at Disney with my four-year-old son we took an evening plunge. Inquisitive patrons walked by asking us where we were from. "Minnesota", I called. "That figures."

    Jerry : Do women know about shrinkage?
    Elaine : What do you mean like laundry?
    Jerry : No, like when a man goes swimming afterwards.
    Elaine : It shrinks?
    Jerry : Like a frightened turtle!

    What do you do "when your body tells you to get out of the water," as President Fran Hegeler says, when you are as far out from shore as you could possibly be? // I have to give credit to correspondent Luke Burbank for letting the world know just how difficult swimming in that cold water actually is. I would not have done even half as well as he did before being hauled in.

    • @lanitagrice7644
      @lanitagrice7644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was pretty impressed with how long he lasted. I just started open water swimming a few years ago in local lakes - I wear a dive skin in summer and a wetsuit in spring and autumn. In mid-autumn, as soon as my eyebrows freeze, I hang up the swim gear until spring. Only in the very hottest days of summer do I swim in a regular swimsuit.

    • @rr7firefly
      @rr7firefly 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lanitagrice7644 You are an inspiration. I should take up open water swimming for the discipline. You have a wonderful sense of humor: "as soon as my eyebrows freeze..." Reminds me of Indiana winters -- every bit of facial moisture freezing after a very short exposure.

    Jesus Christ is way, the truth, the life. Jesus is coming back soon. Repent, believe, and accept Jesus into our hearts as Lord and Saviour of our lives. He Loves us so much. John 3:16
