  • Here's a new stay home day in the life of a pregnant mom of two quarantine vlog! Having a pandemic pregnancy is full of anxiety, and I'm unsure if I should go to my first doctor's appointment and ultrasound. Let me know how you'd navigate this during this time- would you stay home or go to the doctor? Thanks for your help, support, and prayers! Hope you enjoy this day in the life of a stay at home mom with our routine, schedule, cook with me, and clean with me full of mommy motivation for you too!

    Ultrasound tech here! The only thing we check for at this time is the viability of the pregnancy. Unless you are experiencing severe cramping or bleeding, it is much safer to stay home during this time than to risk getting yourself sick and putting unnecessary stress on your body and baby. I scan sooo many moms that are late to care. Sometimes moms don’t come in until 20-30 weeks for their first appt. We are unable to detect fetal abnormalities until that time anyway, so it is definitely much safer to stay home and protect you, baby, and your kiddos. You can always call your OB office and see what the provider has to say, but we are asking all people at my hospital to stay home for unnecessary exams unless we are doing BPP’s and growth scans for high risk 30+ week pregnancies. Hope this helps. Praying for you and your family. ❤️

      You are the prime example of a little knowledge, and minimal education, being a scary thing. Your post is full of fallacies. Many fetal abnormalities are detected way before '20-30' weeks.

      I get there's a pandemic- but I had a full molar pregnancy that was detected at my first 9 week ultrasound- my doc told me I could have bled out and died if I hadn't been seen to have it removed immediately. for those that don't know what a molar pregnancy is you are positive on a pregnancy test and for a blood test. but its a tumor growing instead of a baby- and it tricks your body into thinking its pregnant. you get all the symptoms too. but its very dangerous. 1 in 1000 pregnancies get it. and I had a full molar pregnancy and the tumor was cancerous. if you want reassurance and you're scared of the hospital setting, go find a temporary free standing OB to get the ultrasound- for peace of mind- then go to your regular dr when you're ready for the rest of your pregnancy. just my thoughts, given a personal situation I've been in.

    • @heyitsrachelway
      @heyitsrachelway 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Crystal Mateer you are correct. But molar pregnancies are typically first detected by an extremely high beta HCG in your bloodwork, which I guess I just assumed she already had completed. So sorry to hear about your loss.

      That’s true. It‘s really not save at the moment. The only thing what you can looking for is a doctor who not works in an hospital. That’s better then nothing. But I don’t know if this is possible in USA because I live in Germany. Stay healthy.

  • @zoecantu4336
    @zoecantu4336 4 ปีที่แล้ว +93

    At this point on the pregnancy even if you don’t hear a heartbeat you still would be told to wait a while longer. If you have no severe cramping, bleeding then your body is accepting this pregnancy as normal. Trust your body there’s tons of people who don’t find out they are pregnant until much further along and they are fine. Keep up with prenatals and hydration!

      @@surlespasdondine its really not. My first ultrasound was when I was 5m pregnant. Got to find out the gender the first time we saw her. Very cool, but totally unnecessary. If I never would have seen one doctor my entire pregnancy, she would have been born the exact same way. And truthfully, all it can really do is create more worry.

      @Dusty this is 100% not true for all high-risk mothers. Just because you went for the first time at 22w doesn’t apply to everyone else who is high risk. I am high-risk, and having had a preemie, it is imperative I get seen regularly. Having seen a high-risk doctor with my second child helped me get to full term with medical intervention. I very well could have had a preemie again. Everyone is different.

    • @ellendrake5565

      I was going to suggest the same thing. Sometimes people don't even know they are pregnant till now or later. You are healthy your family is healthy. I think the best thing to do is continue what your doing. Taking care of you, doing what your body is telling you, in terms of eating and exercise as well as sleep. Maybe you can do a video appointment with your doctor now and schedule something with them for 18 weeks for an ultrasound. If you went out to the doctor and did get sick. Stay home stay healthy, you have so many people praying for you.

      I was going to say the same thing. Call your OBGYN and see what they suggest. They can help you weigh the benefits versus risk.
      I had my first baby 11 weeks ago, and I'm still bringing him to his pediatrician appointments (which is a doctor's office located in our hospital). His doctor's office and the hospital are taking extra precautions across the board - as I'm sure all medical offices are now. If it were me I'd want to go just for peace of mind, but I'd just wear a mask and take a shower/change clothes the minute I got home.
      Good luck to you! I'm excited to watch your pregnancy journey!

I made sure not to cross contaminate . I came home and stripped in the garage. I went straight to the shower. If you realllllly feel the need to go, you can just be extra cautious.

  • @EmisManis
    @EmisManis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +56

    You should contact your doctor to see what they recommend. A lot of OB offices and hospitals have protocols in place to protect those who are pregnant or not sick. They may have a separate entrance or masks/gloves available. If it eases your anxiety, I would go. Personally, I would go.

      So I want to just comment about getting the doctors office opinion. You will most likely get someone at the reception area. And they may not be able to advise you correctly and then set you up for an appointment. For example, My daughter had a well check up on Friday of last week, and I called to reschedule it. And the receptionist acted like it was no problem for me to come in. I was shocked at her naïve demeanor. I told her I would call back and reschedule when it was safe to come to the office.

I would wait until your 12 week if that (even tho I found out at 5 weeks my doctor didnt need to see me until then anyway!!) . I would call and based in their recommendation do what they say! They may only being seeing essential patients, your appointment will most likely just be a confirmation of pregnancy which your already 100% you are! Stay home keep you and baby safe! You can be a fetal dobbler to have at home to check yourself (but like I said I was about 14 weeks before I heard anything with both my pregnancies!

    I love Adam's comment "we will be fine...as long as you dont go to the doctor" lol I agree! My last pregnancy we conceived with an IUD and it was so scary but we had to wait until 10ish weeks to even see if it was a viable pregnancy. Thank goodness our baby is here and just celebrated her second birthday on the 28th!! But we couldnt even have doctors appointments because there was nothing they could do. I know the reassurance would be wonderful but the risks truly outweigh the benefits at the moment. You both know what's best for your family but after using a midwife I found out we dont have to have as many appointments as we have been told as long as there are no other complications. Praying for you and your family and so thankful for your channel!

Or the cashier. Or all the surfaces that your food packaging will touch between being received into inventory at the store and getting to your home. 🤷🏻‍♀️ so it’s either door dash, risk going to the store or wait 3 weeks for a time slot for grocery pick up/ delivery

    I would absolutely not go to an appointment in a hospital. If it was me, I would find a new OB in a free standing building. Whatever you do, don’t feel guilty for wanting reassurance. It’s totally normal to want to hear the heartbeat. You’re a momma, it’s your nature. I would really try to find another OB. 💗 sending your good vibes

    The safest thing for your baby is for you to stay healthy. For you to stay healthy staying home is best. In Canada we don’t typically get 1st ultrasound until 14 weeks. The ultrasound can’t “do” anything to help the baby this early anyways. Everything will be ok and just keep reminding yourself that. You are doing everything your baby needs :)

    I’m 12 weeks pregnant and decided to go to the hospital for my fetal Doppler visit last week. It was fine, they took my temperature outside the hospital asked me questions and then gave me an arm band that I had been vetted. I wore a mask and gloves and was careful about cross contamination. I also changed my clothes as soon as I got home and put them in the wash. There were only 2 other pregnant patients in the waiting room and I didn’t have to wait long. I’m glad I went, I had a long debate about going too and almost canceled. I talked to my doctors nurse and she encouraged me to still come and if the doctor thought it was important and safe then I decided I trusted her judgement. But you do what you feel comfortable with and feel safe doing. Congrats on your growing family!

    As a mom of 7, I recommend that you skip the 8 week appointment. The risk of contracting something at the hospital is FAR greater (considering “the current situation”) than the risk of anything that might be missed by skipping the 8wk appt.
    Take care, sweetie - you’re doing great, and He is still on His throne. ❤️

    Im currently 25 weeks pregnant and had to go in for my appointment. My OB is at a hospital as well. The hospital is open in one way and before you go in you have to get your temperature checked, ask questions about traveling fever and cough, mask on, and a special wrist band that shows you’ve been checked before walking into the hospital. a security guard escorts only you up to the doctors office. You have to sanatize your hands before going in. I was super thankful for the precautions that my hospital is doing and everything was totally fine and not scary at all! They just ask that if you’re not feeling well or have any of the symptoms to reschedule

    From my previous experience at go. I had a “missed” miscarriage at 6 weeks but didn’t find out until my 8 week ultrasound. A “missed” miscarriage is when there are no signs of a miscarriage. I did not have cramping, I did not bleed, and I still had all the pregnancy symptoms. At my eight week ultrasound is when they confirmed that my pregnancy was not viable and ended probably around six weeks but my body didn’t do anything about it. If I would’ve had waited longer I could’ve gone into toxic shock syndrome. I ended up having to get an emergency D&C

      I had a similar experience at 10 weeks with my first pregnancy. I had a missed miscarriage and needed a uterine aspiration. Went on to have a healthy baby girl and now we are expecting baby girl #2. It’s a scary time in the world, but with my own personal history I’d find a way to get checked out for peace of mind. They may have a different location available.

    Hey Brianna! Great DITL vlog!! Don't go! Mommy of "8" here.....& I agree with Adam. Absolutely no need to go this early on in the pregnancy unless you're having complications. I almost took my 3 year old daughter a couple weeks ago for a follow up to an ear infection after having an allergic reaction to amoxicillin...but I went with my instinct by immediately stopping the meds cause the same thing happened to her older sister a while back and luckily it cleared up completely the next day. Having only finished 6 of the 10 day cycle of meds I wanted to make sure she didn't need a different prescription so we asked the clinic and they confirmed she was okay to stop the meds and as long as she wasn't experiencing any other pain she was fine. Even a couple of weeks ago....the thought of going into a clinic or hospital for non urgent care was considered super risky. Stay home & stay safe! You guys all look wonderful & healthy....so.... continued blessings to you & your loved ones!!!🥰

    A first prenatal appt is usually around 9 weeks. As long as you take prenatal vit and don’t have any bleeding or unbearable cramping I would def wait it out. A Doppler won’t pick up a heart beat until a little later but it’s something u can try to give you some peace! Another thing is that it depends on your hospital policy as well bc some need you to be an established patient before they can answer phone inquiries or questions about concerns etc so that is also something to assess. Praying for your family ❤️

  • @katiehough7407
    @katiehough7407 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bri I agree with Adam don’t go unless you feel cramping or something is a concern. Most doctors and on are all for you staying home til delivery. Also I would call and see if there is a location outside of the hospital, where you can have your 12 week check up.

  • @SpoonyMcGlockenspiel
    @SpoonyMcGlockenspiel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am 10 weeks and rescheduled my 8 week appt to 12 weeks. I totally understand the needing reassurance (especially because this is my first) but you just have to trust that God has got you and this baby and things will work out the way they’re supposed to whether you go or not. My drs office told me the only reason to come in before 12 weeks was if we were doing genetic testing (which we’re not) so I think it’s completely safe to wait until you feel more comfortable to go in. And even then, wear as much protection as you can get your hands on! Sending comfort your way!

  • @StephyLB88
    @StephyLB88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the UK we are not given any ultrasounds until we are around 12 weeks pregnant. They would only give you an earlier scan if you were experiencing any cramping or bleeding. I would just wait it out for a while. If you’re feeling good in yourself then there’s no reason to put yourself at risk. x

    I think you and your hubs are right on point with your gut intuition!! I know it has to be hard- I can’t imagine not being able to get that first-appointment confirmation. Living in the “age of information,” where anything we could possibly want to learn about is literally a click away and at our constant disposal has conditioned us to think we NEED to know everything. Access to all of this information is wonderful. Technological advancements that make it possible to monitor our pregnancies are wonderful. But they are not all necessary. Folks were able to populate the earth long before the pre-natal technology that we have today. It wasn’t always pretty or easy, but pregnancies were carried to full term, and people survived. There is less risk in holding off on your appointments than going to the hospital and risking your’s and your families health. I think you’ll feel just as much anxiety after the appointment in worrying whether or not you contracted the virus. I don’t say any of this to trivialize your fears but to hopefully encourage you that it will all be okay. Your baby is okay- follow your mama’s intuition, and trust in the Lord, for He is your strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Know that we are SHOWERING you with prayers for a safe and happy pregnancy as well as peace of mind. God bless Bri. You are a beautiful soul.
