I just saw the ad on TV here in New Zealand a night ago (with my Specsavers glasses on!!) , and instantly remembered the episode, which was one of my childhood favourites. - Absolute genius comedy. "...I'll give you a damn good thrashing!" - LOL, just too good!
Hi, The music is the Fawlty Towers TV theme tune and is said to be inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven's Minuet in G major, and was written by the late, great Dennis Wilson.
John's memory may be fading but the power of Google lets us know the original location was on the corner of Lapstone Gardens and Mentmore Close in Harrow.
+ifc63 Him saying "we went to these little anonymous streets" doesn't mean he can't remember which street the car thrashing happened on. He was talking about the filming they did in general.
+ifc63 Yes, or more accurately, in Kenton. I went past that junction a few weeks ago. I notice the location for this advert is in that same area judging by the fairly distinctive style of the house the car is parked near.
"There's a little bit of Basil in most people if they're sufficiently stressed"
I know what you mean, John...
What a fantastic man. What a legend in comedy. And still funny and talented to this day. Just amazing!

I found this very cozy of times I remember in my childhood of a period where comedy was genius and sacred
Well hello I first found you from Charlie
Brilliant idea to revive such an iconic clip from a show that was a work of absolute genius. Cleese, you are a legend.
Fawlty Towers was wonderful comedy. If only they had made more.
Mind you if they'd made a third series there's always the risk it would now be regarded like Godfather 3
Brilliant, JC is a comedy genius, a true British legend!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
How he's be pending the same old shit for 30 years god that's a great meal ticket?
brilliant, well done to John and creative team!
we had someone like basil in a London hotel, he ran around doing everything, and was very rude, everytime I watch fawlty towers, it reminds me of that
more of jc as basil in your ads please love to see how he what hes up to and where he is in 2016!
Great Man
I guess this demonstrates he can actually still play Basil well
Is the Paul McCartney hair for the advert or Christmas?
We've all had a Basil breakdown.

+Kristof Arnaldo You just missed the first half of his sentence where he says "I have no idea where we shot it..."

You can see the younger Mr Cleese at the end of the interview, in the background
Time to make more faulty towers.
