Firstly the regs book read it all and study how it is set out. Especially read the stuff that makes no sense to you, this will take several efforts so don't give up . In conjunction with the regs book are the GN books, about a dozen in total, expensive but will help explain the big regs book.
Use the internet and utube to offer a different type of learning and confirm your findings from your book work.
Consult your colleagues/mentor(s) and confirm their teaching/advice.
Study in groups and come to a consensus, chances are that between the group you will find the right answers.
If you come across a subject that you find more difficult, don't give up, keep chipping away at it and it will click.
remember no one knows everything, never bullshit, just say what's that? Teach me! No matter how old you are!
you will ultimately be responsible for other people's safety, never attempt anything that you are not 100% confident of completing to the highest standard. Keep learning, training and studying.

      Guidance Note...." ?

    • @stevensmith4449
      @stevensmith4449 4 ปีที่แล้ว

EF they are additional books that greatly expand on the big regs book.
Their are about a dozen (GN) guidance note books, no1 selection and erection, no3 teat and inspection, others for earthing and bonding and special locations for example

@@Trancerrr Thanks for the interest! After lockdown I found a firm to employ me as an electrical labourer. Now thanks to the experience I've gained the past couple of years I am almost ready to go in for my AM2. Having completed my lv2 & 3 c&g course and passed the 18th edition last year I have been building my portfolio wherever I can.

@@carrot5648 wow, sounds like you've been busy. Did you drop the course during lockdown? Sounds like you lucked out there mate. Best of luck to you in future.
I currently work an IT job but so badly want to become an electrician. I've just purchased some of the books recommended in the video. Hopefully that'll get me started before I start my level 1 course.

@@Trancerrr Well the college centres were closed, but they set up an online based system that allowed us to study at home ready for the exams when centres re-opened.
Recommend checking out the guys who I went with - New Trades Career. You can pay for the course monthly, but there is no interest to pay as it's essentially a student loan.

Great video Gaz, I would also recommend Guidance Note 3(Inspection & Testing) when you're coming up toward your level 3 .
Also towards the middle and end of your apprenticeship buying The Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations, great for when you're out on your own in the big wide world.
A good way of getting these is at one of the many trade shows around the UK, pop down, take a look, trust me you will find all the books you need and you will learn a lot about what's out there and what's coming up for the future.
Keep up the good work mate, catch up soon.

I've been in the trade since i was 16 year old . imo theres better trades that earn more than us like aircon and commerical gas
I would say to aim higher than a trade job . I've honestly never impressed a single person tellling them I'm an electrician lol
