Because professors want to ensure that they have money to fund you in the event that you don’t receive the scholarship or if they need to supplement your funding (in the summer, extended program duration etc.)

A community reference is an attestation of your leadership endeavours from someone who knows you in such capacity. They’ll be sent an email (to the address you provide in your application) from the scholarship admin team asking for their input. For the most updated and accurate info, please send an email to the scholarship team to verify the process!
They are completely separate applications, and you will need to apply for both the scholarship and admission to your graduate program of interest. However, you can apply to the scholarship before applying to your desired graduate program. Note that getting admission to McGill is a requirement for the scholarship, but it doesn’t guarantee you will get selected for the scholarship, so I’d still recommend sourcing out other funding. The scholarship team will announce a deadline to apply to at least one program later on in the interview process. Things might’ve changed since I applied in 2020, so be sure to reach out to scholarship admin team for the most accurate info!

Hello, I am writing to ask about my degree completion date as it is an essential for endorsement. I started my LLB degree in 2017, the session ended in 2021, got the results in 2022 and degree in 2024 (management issues). So, I am not sure which year would count as my completion year? No you don’t have to apply to programs at McGill first! You can apply for the scholarship and then proceed with your program application later. However, in my year there was a deadline that they set for each finalist to have applied to at least 1 program; it was early-mid January if I remember correctly, but things change from year to year. Hi Zaid, this is not a merit-based scholarship, the focus is leadership! A ‘very high gpa’ is not required for the scholarship application 🙂 you are not your grades, be confident in your sauce!

A 1 year masters is usually a course-based professional masters program. A 3 year undergraduate degree is a Bachelors degree, while a traditional 4 year undergraduate program is a Bachelor’s degree with Honours

McCall University? Applying for the scholarship is entirely separate from your application to your desired program at McGill. Most people apply for the scholarship first since the deadline is earlier. No offer letter is needed to apply for the scholarship. Yes the endorsement is a requirement. If you check out the 2022-23 McCall MacBain open endorsement guide you will see a list of the officials (principal, provost etc.) that are permitted to endorse a student. Unfortunately I am not a MMS employee so this is as much info as I have privy to. I recommend sending them an email directly!

Hello Nicole, I was able to apply for the scholarship but when I checked the link to apply for the specific program admission it says for winter 2023 admission closes July 15 for international students meanwhile the program is for fall of 2023. Can you help me check this out.
Winter 2023 for your program means enrolment is this upcoming January. Note that the interview process for the scholarship would still be underway as each cohort of McCall MacBain scholars are selected in mid-late March and begins in the fall semester. Please reach out to a program advisor and the scholarship committee for more information on what your options are.

Why do they ask 'graduate programs outside McGill' under interest? Is it optional?

A 1 year masters is usually a course-based professional masters program. A 3 year undergraduate degree is a Bachelors degree, while a traditional 4 year undergraduate program is a Bachelor’s degree with Honours

McCall University? Applying for the scholarship is entirely separate from your application to your desired program at McGill. Most people apply for the scholarship first since the deadline is earlier. No offer letter is needed to apply for the scholarship. Please see the scholarship website for more info on how to get in contact with admin

Did you get an endorsement from your principal when applying for the scholarship
I heard you need an endorsement from a principal of the school you graduated from
It wasn’t a formal endorsement that I personally sought out. I applied to the scholarship and in reviewing my application, the admin team directly contacted my undergraduate institution to endorse me as a candidate
@@NicoleOsayande so should I just apply with out endorsement because I have a fealing my principal will as for money,or lie to me that he can't endorse me and end up telling a family about the scholarship,and he will endorse the person.

Yes the endorsement is a requirement. If you check out the 2022-23 McCall MacBain open endorsement guide you will see a list of the officials (principal, provost etc.) that are permitted to endorse a student. Unfortunately I am not a MMS employee so this is as much info as I have privy to. I recommend sending them an email directly!

You can apply for the scholarship before applying for your program at McGill. You’d be looking for Fall 2024 applications & but I’m not sure when those open

Yes! It can be course based or thesis based. As long as it’s a masters degree of professional undergraduate program (medicine, law etc.)

You can apply for the scholarship before applying to your desired program at McGill, but they will give you a cutoff date to have applied to at least one program to ensure that if you are selected for the scholarship, you have entry to a program at McGill. I’d recommend you reach out to the team directly for the most accurate information
Hello Nicole, I was able to apply for the scholarship but when I checked the link to apply for the specific program admission it says for winter 2023 admission closes July 15 for international students meanwhile the program is for fall of 2023. Can you help me check this out.
Winter 2023 for your program means enrolment is this upcoming January. Note that the interview process for the scholarship would still be underway as each cohort of McCall MacBain scholars are selected in mid-late March and begins in the fall semester. Please reach out to a program advisor and the scholarship committee for more information on what your options are.
