Thank you again for another great video. I am amazed at the quality and time you spend on each one. I am a true follower and you have made it possible for me to work on my 70 bug convertable. Yes, I plan on contributing to your cause. What you do for us is invaluable. Thank you so much. Frank
Thank you Frank, it is comments like these that keep me going. I truly appreciate the kind words. I don’t think a lot of people acknowledge, like you do, how much work is put into filming. I am trying so hard to keep this great hobby alive! Seems not many can work on these now. So I’m trying to teach others!! Thank you my friend, I really appreciate this! I hope you have a very blessed evening.

Love your channel Slade, you are awesome. I just picked up a 73 super beetle two weeks ago and I'm learning so much watching all of your videos. I know it's a lot of work but please keep it up if you can.
Thanks Bob, and congratulations on your purchase! Lots of videos on here for 73 super beetle. And of course a lot of upcoming videos will also be the same for your car. Just a front suspension is different. Thank you so much for being here.
I have a piece of angle iron about five foot long with two holes drilled in it, that I bolt to the hub, then apply full torque. That tool you use is very handy. But most places that carry it are usually out of stock. The angle iron is an easy alternative if you can’t get the tool. For flywheel, I use a locking tool. Great video by the way.
Once again an excellent DIY video on the brakes and hub. Since I have had many presenters use various points to lift the VW up could you give us your points of lofting the Bug up and where are your preferred points to apply jack stands. You could incorporate these points in any point of a video you are filming or just show them as stationary. pictures. Just my request. Thanks and keep these videos coming. Jim Semertzides
Thank you Jim, and thanks for being here. And I can absolutely do that for sure. I am doing a video over the weekend of a disc brake conversion on a friends beetle. So I will be sure to bring that up, excellent idea
Good video, Slade. I use a regular claw hammer to remove the cap from the front brake drum. Lots of leverage, and no fighting and twisting of a screwdriver. It’s just like pulling a nail. You just hook the claw in the cap lip, and push the handle toward the drum. Spin the wheel a little while doing this. The controversy about the rear wheel nut is such a joke. It’s 217 ft. lbs. for swing axels, and 253 ft. lbs.for IRS (cars with CV’s). So, if you own a 1969 and later Bug, you go 253 ft. lbs. If you own a 1968 and earlier, you go 217 ft. lbs. However, there is one exception to this rule: if you own a 1968 autostick bug, you also torque the nut to 253, because the 1968 auto-sticks have CV joints..
I’m truly sorry my friend, I just now saw this comment. I did not get a notification on it. Yes you’re right, it’s all across the board with the torque value. Thank you for posting this I truly appreciate it.
Owners manual says leave the wheel on the ground to break the nuts. Same with axle nut. Breaker bar, 3 foot of pipe. The torque tool is not needed, never was.
Thank you very much Ken!! I did a valve adjustment video already. And I actually did it while it was on the engine stand so it was much easier to see what I was doing. And of course I will be doing oil change very soon on a friends beetle, so I’m going to film it. Since mines not close to that part yet here’s the video on valve adjustment! Stay tuned! th-cam.com/video/h-nAW5XmYYM/w-d-xo.html
I have a leak that drips out from the back drum. I think it is transmission oil, but not sure. Do you have a video of driveshaft swap? Keep up the god work!!
@@SladesVWBeetle got it, new to this life and not familiar yet with all the tools. Really appreciate your efforts to educate us, especially with that LEAVE THE TIRE ON TO REMOVE THE BRAKE HUB! Man, after seeing that I was tempted to do the forehead palm slap. :) Thanks.
I received my Torque Multiplier not long ago. Today I torque those hub nuts down. I bought this 1 (2) trick Pony because I want to KNOW the torque value of the hub nuts. Luckily, I bought it just before the 33% price increase. I thought $99.95 was expensive.......
Very good purchase! It makes the job so much nicer, and at least you can know exactly what the torque has been sad too. Yeah they definitely have went up in price I did notice that.
@@SladesVWBeetle I was NOT comfortable standing on the breaker bar and getting an unknown torque on something that important. Now I have Peace of Mind....at least in that regard.

Great video. You have convinced me to get the torque multiplier. Looks like a great tool
Honestly, it’s like a miracle tool. It makes such a huge difference, just makes it so much easier.
@@SladesVWBeetle I wish they had one for custom wheels and rotors. I have disc brakes with 5 bolt chevy rotors.
Another great video. That tool is awesome some day I will get one. Can't wait to see the disk brake. Have a great rest of your week...
Thanks Eugene, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. That tool is definitely a lifesaver especially on the flywheel also. Stay tuned for much more.
Good video. 👍👍👍Torque multiplier one of the best tools I’ve ever bought for vdubs
Thanks I really appreciate it, yes that tool is definitely a huge bonus to have in your toolbox for sure!
Great video and great explanations of things.
Thanks very much!!
Nice job old buddy. Those drums looked like the ones on my Comet lol. Looking fwd to the disk brake conversion and drop spindles

Helpful video! Can't wait for the disc conversion! But, those rusty sections loom.........
That will be next weeks video. I’m going to be putting them on a friends car. The same car that was the fuel filter bracket relocation.

It could be your wheel cylinder depending on which transmission style you have.
I just used the HFT electric impact to put the nuts back on mine. probably close enough torque spec wise.
nice.
Thanks very much Jim!
Torque multiplier tool? Where do I get this tool?
Honestly all of the online VW vendors carry them, sometimes Amazon is a little bit cheaper. Let me know if you need a link to it.

@@michaelrobinson1945 Oh I agree!!! I know some folks say to just run it on with a gun, truly it needs the proper torque.
A 5 foot iron pipe does the job for a lot less money. and only use a breaker bar, not a rachet that might strip the internal gears.
