- Here is a video from out visit to the childhood home of Laura Ingalls Wilder, which served as the setting for most of her books about pioneer life on the prairie. Since I grew up on the prairie, going there held nostalgia, and it's always interesting to be reminded of how simple, yet difficult, life was in the wilderness in the 1800's.
In the third grade i was assigned to do a book report on The Long Winter. (I was a very advanced reader) it left a deep impression on me. I then read the entire series. I always wanted to live by Plum Creek in the dugout! After seeing the dugout here, ive changed my mind!
This is great.❤️🇩🇪🌟😇💐👼🥰🏡
What a great video of her home. I read most of her books as a kid, she's one of my favorite authors. I'm about an hour and a half ish from De Smet, I need to get my boyfriend to get me up there sometime soon. Seeing this sure makes you appreciate what we have now.
I'm sure you would enjoy visiting that place, if you enjoyed reading her books. Just being there seems to bring so much of it to life! Hope you get to go soon.

Just want to correct what you said about the pantry. According to the books Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote there was a lot of food stuffs stored in both the attic and the pantry, particularly as they headed into winter
@kellyshomemadekitchen...hokey as opposed to what?
Wowww your baby grou up now
I would like to visit this place 😎
Nice video even if the narrator is hokey lol.
Dugout for me please
Is this really where they lived.??
Rudi, this is the original quarter section where they lived. I'm pretty sure all of the buildings are reconstructions, though. However, they seem to have done a pretty good job of showing what life was like for them 100 years ago. Being from the plains, I saw a lot of this type stuff, when I was young.
