I lived in Korea, Japan, Washington DC, and now San Francisco California. I'm now in my late 30s and had several jobs. Experiencing ups and downs from every country. Eastern Asia has the stigma of toxic work culture and it definitely is quite demanding compared to America. Ironically, I actually had the absolute worst job and best job in San Francisco meanwhile Korea was somewhere in the middle. Japan was the most difficult to adjust to because how demanding it is to conform to their societies expectations. Korea at least allowed you a bit more freedom to be yourself. However when I look back and I realize how much I do miss living in Korea and Japan. By the time I was in my mid thirties and living in Japan, I finally realized how to balance my work life and personal life. My hobbies, hiking, and few good friends really kept everything together. I still flew to Korea occasionally since it's a short flight. Finding your PERSONAL BALANCE is the key to everything where ever you live. I now live in San Francisco and I'm relatively happy but it's not easy living here either. It's far more expensive to live here compared to Tokyo or Seoul. There is no perfect place. No where. San Francisco has a lot of issues within the city itself but mentally i'm in a good place because my perspective on life itself has changed. This was your first job so don't be so hard on yourself. It's so rare for anybody that sticks with their first job. What's amazing about you is that you realized what you needed to do. Most people would be afraid to let go but you had the strength to do it. You're still fairly young so create new opportunities and memories. Whether you stay in Korea, or go back to Singapore, Hong Kong (I notice a lot of people saying you should move back), or a completely new country, just remember that you're naturally going to have struggles. So just hang in there and take it step by step and find something that allows you to find balance between all things in life. "It doesn't have to be TOO serious". Remember to laugh, cry, eat, slip, and love. Enjoy the whole process.
You’re doing really well! I’m 29 years old and just starting my life again! I wish you the best on your journey! Always remember to pray 🙏 especially when things get tough. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for your life 🎉
Oh Sheren, this hit home for me because I had a very similar experience during my year working in Korea. I spent the entire year asking the same questions you asked here - "What if I had taken the job offer back home instead?" "What if I had never left Hong Kong?" You did the best you could to adapt to the situation and it is a sign of wisdom and strength to know when it's time to move on! I left my job in Korea nine months ago, and this month I finally received an offer for a dream job back home. You will get there too, it just takes time! Thank you for sharing; I'll definitely follow along for as long as you share your journey!
aww thanks for sharing, Allison! :’) i’m currently still healing from the experience, but at least now i know that korea life is not for me (maybe it wouldve been better if i had another ok job)… anyways good to know that you’re settled with a new job now! thank you again i appreciate this so much
Well, you gave it a shot and it didn't work out. It sucks but you shouldn't regret trying. Whatever choice you make in life there is always a "what if". You could have been in HK or anywhere else in the world and be wondering the same thing. The important thing is to reset yourself and comeback stronger than ever. We know you can! We are rooting for you.
hii i just wanted to say that i really feel grateful for your comment!!! i think you just pointed something i always fail to “feel” - be present in the moment. always been so caught up with my what if-s 🙁 thank you so much!!! i appreciate you
I found you a long time ago through your HK permanent residence card video (because I was also applying for mine at the time). You know what, I also handed in my resignation in early Aug! My last day will be Sept 6. After 3 years at this company I'm completely burned out and my health is starting to deteriorate, and I also don't have a new job lined up yet, so I know exactly the feeling of being lost and confused (and worried about finances). I'm glad we're both not alone in this. I'm sure we'll both figure it out eventually and have this just be another chapter of our lives ❤
aww you found me thru my hk vid :') nice to e-meet you! thank you for sharing your stories - it's comforting to know that someone out there also knows the feeling i have right now, went thru similar things, and still surviving. yes, we're not alone. :) thank you again and i hope things will work out for the better - for both of us!!! you take care
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it's a good thing you left. Don't stress too much, you'll find something a lot better! Ive worked in Korea for a long time and it's certainly not the easiest. Everything is going to work out!

I'm pretty sure that you are also find many difficulities to adjust, moreover in Korea directly... So im so proud of your attainment and your presistence!! I believe you will find the better life's condition ahead, but first thing first is stay healthy please ❤
thank you so much!!!🥹 im glad to know that im not the only one who has gone thru this… you did great for surviving too!! i hope i’ll find something better outside korea 🥹
I lived through the same thing, the part about how the thing we wanted the most and dreamed about turned to be one of the worst thing that has happened to me. You just feel a void inside. But you will find your way back to yourself and to simplest dream, there is no « dream » job, what we can focus and build is to crave out our happiness everyday. Take all your time you need to heal ❤❤❤
i totally agree - there's no dream job. i personally think that a job is a job i have to do, just because. it's kinda sad but i guess it's still manageable as long as i can find happiness outside the job :') thank you for writing this btw, i appreciate it so much! hope you're doing ok these days too.
You're so strong, it's so cool that you choose yourself! While watching i cried a little with you because I also had the experience of doing something that seems necessary, but realizing that it’s not your thing and deciding to change direction
ahh thank you so much! it's not an easy situation for me and sometimes im actually not that strong.... :') it's nice to know that im not alone in this journey, i hope things are better for you too!! :D
Im really glad you chose yourself over a company! Im also in a similar boat. It is so hard to leave a job! So im real happy you had the strength! Best of luck to you!
It's harder to quit a job for your wellbeing than to just stay there and be miserable. You've taken steps to build the best life for you. Just because you don't know where the next step goes, you know that the last step didn't work. I think your self awareness is something to be proud of. You've spotted what isn't good for you and changed it.
hiii, thank you so much for this!! i feel like it’s so easy to feel like a failure especially when you just took a big step away from the life you thought you wanted. :’) and thanks for pointing out my self awareness - for a long time i’ve always considered it as one of my weakness. it’s nice to know that there’s other perspective to it. THANK YOU!

ask any old person, the only things that really matter in life are kids, and lets be honest: given your demographic, it's unlikely that you'll ever have kids. so relax, and just live your life without any anxiety and fear. in the end, none of it will matter.
I get you, and i said before, you should live and stay where you are happy. Anyway you tried, now move on and change country. You should also read some books about live in present, what is really important in life and mental health

Hi Sheren, I enjoy watching your vlogs and they are very relatable to me. I would like to buy you a coffee or become a part of a patreon to help support you. Do you have something like that?
Hellooo!! thank you so much i appreciate this a lot 🥹 i havea kofi account but i dont really check that so often hehe it’s ok!! By watching and appreciating my vid, it already means a lot. Thank you!!
I am tagging you. Let's do a project.
ask any old person, the only things that really matter in life are kids, and lets be honest: given your demographic, it's unlikely that you'll ever have kids. so relax, and just live your life without any anxiety and fear. in the end, none of it will matter.
I get you, and i said before, you should live and stay where you are happy. Anyway you tried, now move on and change country. You should also read some books about live in present, what is really important in life and mental health
appreciate this. thank you! ☺️
Hey sherendev , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
I found you a long time ago through your HK permanent residence card video (because I was also applying for mine at the time). You know what, I also handed in my resignation in early Aug! My last day will be Sept 6. After 3 years at this company I'm completely burned out and my health is starting to deteriorate, and I also don't have a new job lined up yet, so I know exactly the feeling of being lost and confused (and worried about finances). I'm glad we're both not alone in this. I'm sure we'll both figure it out eventually and have this just be another chapter of our lives ❤
