    One of the best things about fasting is that it shrinks your stomach and resets your taste buds. So when you do eat, you eat less and stuff like Apples and nuts taste amazing. Hardly anyone talks about this.

      @@infiniteg7852You will know it. For example when I fast and have lets say a glass of cola or whatever, it feels super super sugary. Like woah. Meanwhile when I eat normal diet it tastes normal like "give me another one". Same for other food, a chicken breast that would taste bland day to day, tastes amazing when you are fasted and hungry.

    I like it. Al Kavadlo (bodyweight influencer) has gotten very lean on OMAD. He says he'll eat a piece of fruit or an egg or 2 if he gets really hungry before dinner. The key is long-term results, not being a purist. Personally, I'd avoid fruit. It jacks up my cravings just like other sugary things do. But pickles, olives, etc. make sense--get salt/electrolytes and maybe a little fat, which is still technically fasting by some definitions.

    I just think you need to drop the word "fasting". If you're taking bone broth and bulletproof coffee and popping olives, etc.. You're not fasting: you're just doing a high caloric deficit. We used to call this "dieting".. You can call it what you want, but it muddies the waters when you're saying fasting but still taking in calories. It's just a contradiction in terms. So fasting" isn't the right word for it.. "Dieting" may not be the right word either. "Restricting.. maybe, would be better to say. We just need to create a better word for "caloric deficit".. WE need a nice trendy word to represent what you're doing.. because it's obviously working well. "Abstaining? maybe..

    Terrific video. I just don't understand why some fitness influencers won't use the proper terms. Fasting has a literal definition, that is a medical term as well. So to say you're fasting, then describe your eating pattern during your fast, is simply a false statement. Mark is describing extreme caloric restriction. He is not describing fasting, in the sense that the medical, or even the current fitness community understands and defines the term. He is right of course, he does not know about autophagy or any of the neurological status effects of proper fasting. If he did, then he obviously wouldn't use the term fasting while describing caloric intake during that period. ANY Caloric intake during a fast, compromises the neurological responses that could happen if you were actually not eating. Denying the body food, purposefully, causes a mental reaction and response that has physiological consequences. Extreme caloric restriction does similar, but the consequences are different. It's simply disputable to imply that both Fasting and Extreme Caloric Restriction are one in the same. Giving your body a little bit of food tells it one thing, giving the body zero food, tells it another, and it will respond accordingly.

    Studies have shown alternate day fasting leads to much greater lean mass losses, even when calories are equated to simple daily caloric restrictions. But I think you're on point with the learning to break away from boredom eating, etc.

    I did a 22 day water fast and went from 207.6 to 185. When back to eating, about only 5 pounds of water weight came back. Basically, I was losing about 3/4 pound a day. After day 3, it got easier. Heartburn went away.

    Hey can you break down your fast days , how long, which days you do 24 hrs , what days you do less time etc

  • @A2Fan71
    @A2Fan71 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've been using fasting for several years. I fast after dinner Sunday until Tuesday morning/noon. I only drink water with electrolytes and coffee. Sometimes I also use intermittent fasting, or prolonged fasts up to 72 hours. Autophagy occurs after fasting without food for 48-72 hours. “Auto” means self and “phagy” means eat, so the literal meaning of autophagy is “self-eating.” It's basically an evolutionary self-preservation mechanism through which the body removes dysfunctional cells and recycles them for cellular repair and cleaning, so if you're concerned about health, doing a 2-3 days fast--without food--every now and then can give remarkable results. Even fasting for 24 hours has shown to increase HGH levels significantly.

    • @LauraB.335
      @LauraB.335 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depending upon who you listen to and how metabolically healthy you are to start with, autophagy starts at about 17-24 hours, and then peaks at either 48 or 72 hours, at which point stem cell production kicks into high gear.

    • @A2Fan71
      @A2Fan71 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LauraB.335 The data suggesting autophagy occurs after fasting for 24 hours largely comes from animal studies, but shorter fasts can lead to mild activation, while longer fasts lead to increased activation. This is the case with HGH as well. Fasting for 24 hours can increase HGH levels five times, while fasting for 72 hours can increase HGH by 300%. As you stated, it depends largely on your metabolic health, and there’s other factors you want to consider with longer fasts such as loss of muscle mass. I agree, it does depend on “who you listen to” when it comes to the length of fasts and benefits you’ll receive. My doctor has told me he doesn’t really recommend fasting. Needless to say, I don’t “listen” to him when it comes to fasting, because I’ve been using fasting for years, and the benefits I’ve received are remarkable!

      It's due to restriction of amino acids specifically. Research has shown specifically that limiting isoleucine and methionine, as well as others, has lifespan lengthening effects in animal models. Also, increases in autophagy and other beneficial mechanisms regarding healthy aging. He brought up Valter Longo who is responsible for FMD (fasting mimicking diet), it would be similar to this....

    This all makes sense to me. Kind of weird but my 2.5 month fast had the exact same goals. I started at 240lb with the goal of 200. I finished at 205. I’m going heavy again now but even though I increased calories my weight is going slightly down. No biggie. If I keep eating steak and chicken it will climb back up. Almost no strength loss. Quads/VMO are slightly stronger. Core (abs,obliques, rear chain including spinae erectors, glutes and hamstrings) slightly weaker but this next strength season will be stronger than before. I noticed I can’t fill my stomach with the same volume. FYI you’re slightly late for the summer cut.
