Very good instructions. Since this is intended for us non-plumbers, you might want to mention to cover the drain to prevent any screws or washers from falling in there.

"make sure that little red dot faces down" is the most helpful advice in this video. The instructions that came with the new valve said to install with the dot facing up and that is absolutely wrong. Dave the plumber knows best. I followed the instructions from the manufacturer and didn't listen to Dave because the instructions were in black and white and were straight from the source. Well, I had to take it all apart and put that little red dot facing down which was a huge pain in the butt since the water cut off is 3 flights of stairs down and in a tight dirty crawl space. This is my long winded way of saying LISTEN TO DAVE and Thank You for this great tutorial.

Excellent video, but a few comments which may be helpful.
    1) To save money you can simply repair the Mixit valve. The problem is usually the valve gets sticky from the grease (oil) used on it mixed with calcium build up over time. He actually uses a little grease on his new valve. Use WD-40 instead which is fish oil based.
    2) Grease and/or oil over time will degrade the rubber O-Rings. This will cause the leak. Again, using WD-40 or better yet use K-Y Jelly which is glycerine based will allow the cartridge to slide in easily but will not degrade the O-Rings and/or let calcium build up on the O-Rings.
    3) After pulling the Eustachian off simply clean it with quad ought (0000) steel wool. Similarly clean the handle with 0000 steel wool. Do NOT use 3, 2 or 1 ought steel wool as they are too grainy and will scratch the chrome.
    4) Use WD-40 and a paper towel or soft cloth to clean the Cartridge. Get rid of the gunk. You can simply unscrew it to get into the interior of the cartridge and clean all components. Just remember (or use his good video) on how to put the components back together. Use an old toothbrush to help you clean it.. this combined with the WD-40 will make it operate smoothly once again.
    5) Replace the old O-Rings with new ones. You can order a large assortment from Harbor Freight Tools for $5.99. Here's the link: www.harborfreight.com/225-piece-nitrile-o-ring-assortment-67677.html
    6) Also use the 0000 Steel Wool to clean (burnish) the Bonnet Nut. Frankly I was surprised he didn't do this and also the wall behind the Eustachian was left dirty. However he did fill the hole in the wall with Plumbers Putty which was good. Again, use WD-40 or K-Y Jelly on the threads to make the nut go on easier. Clean the threads with WD-40 and your old toothbrush prior to putting it on.
Note: WD-40 was invented in San Diego for the aircraft industry. Aircraft manufacturers and the military needed something to displace water and keep components from rusting. WD means Water Displacement and #40 was the 40th set of ingredients they tried which worked.

Excellent instruction, much thanks! The way you slowly showed the removal process in it's entirety was most helpful, as I had a problem. I will explain:
After I removed the first Set screw, the Volume Control Handle would not come loose. As a result, I could not access the Temperature Control Handle or it's Set screw. So I turned the Volume Control handle all the way open, and that gave me access to the head of the Bonnet Nut. I realized that if I could work that Bonnet Nut, it all should slip off. The Cartridge just slips in and out, and not having access to the Temperature Control Handle Set screw should not matter. So I used my Crescent Wrench on the Bonnet Nut - and sure enough everything, including the Cartridge, came out! That frozen Volume Control Handle was stuck to the Cartridge head, and loosening the Bonnet Nut forced everything out, all in one piece. I had already loosened the Set screw of the Flange, so it slipped off with everything. I already had new replacement hardware, so I was not interested in trying to get all that stuff apart. Tossed that, and installed new! Good to go! Thanks again! Also showing how the Cartridge should be set up before installing was great. My washers were not in proper order and it was not closed all the way - that would have got me!
Slow, methodical, and explaining what to do and why of almost every step is the best way to make a DIY video for us uninformed of the subject matter. Strong work!

Thanks! You did a great job. I watch TH-cam videos all the time and there are so many bad ones that are way longer than they need to be and or don't show exactly what they are doing. You didn't waste any time and were very clear about every step. I also appreciate slowly showing the parts and zooming in on the entire process. Thank you so much!

This is by far the best video showing the mixet stem replacement, so thank you very much. You just saved this 50 yr old woman a couple hundred bucks! I too have a question regarding this...are the volume control and temp control supposed to work independently of each other? When I turn my temp control the volume control also turns.

You remind me of Aaron Paul, better known as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad!
These are fantastic videos. You are so meticulous, explain everything, and have great camera & lighting. I've learned quite a few helpful obscure tips by watching.
I'd love to see you do one on updating 80's condo side by side laundry closet to space efficient stack setup. My connections are all over the place, and the dryer vent is squashed. Because of the way the gas, water, drain, & vent stick out of the wall, depth of w/d is too limited. There has to be a more elegant solution. I believe you are an artist with plumbing and the perfect master plumber for this job.
A million thanks & please keep them coming!

I got a very generic Mixet cartridge at the suggestion of a Home Depot person. It was difficult to put in and once in, the hot/cold handle was almost impossible to turn. I watched another video and that guy said to use Mixet MXT07. When I finally got the other part pulled out, it was completely mangled. I took it back and got the Mixet MXT07. It now works as it should.

Video helped me out. I used a mallet to lightly tap the tip of the valve into the plumbing. I was to weak to push it in and i was moving the whole plumbing inside the wall while pushing. It worked out, maybe I was supposed to open the valve all the way first and that's why it was too hard to push in by hand in retrospect?

Also, just in case your house is plumbing incorrectly, with the hot water coming in behind the wall to the right and the cold to the left, you can insert the cartridge upside down (with the red dot facing up), and this corrects the situation and allows the faucet to work correctly.

Hi there! Thanks so much for the video it is very helpful. I recently replaced this cartridge due to a leaky faucet. Prior to the change, the water pressure was fine, it was just the leak that wouldn't stop and the volume control just kept spinning. After replacing the cartridge, the leak has stopped, but by water pressure coming out of the faucet and the shower has decreased almost by 50%. Would you have any recommendations as to why this is and how to fix it?

I'm trying to replace the valve and have many a problem going on. First the pipe coming out of the wall seems to have part of the thread eroded and it seems too long or the the cover shaft is too short. The cover shaft doesn't go all the way to the face plate. This is my 2nd attempt as I was too overzealous & broke the last stem making the temp handle spin round & round. Also this set of parts seems to have the opposite directions of the last one even though they were purchased from the same place & same manufacturer i.e. face the red dot up??? When I put everything back together, it seems that the temp control handle will only work within a quarter range to the left side instead of moving left to right on the bottom. The final kicker is that the on off handle won't turn off unless I loosen the screw every time & it is very difficult almost impossible to turn off & on. As the daughter of a longtime journeyman plumber, I guess I feel I should have no problem with this. Any suggestions besides finding a man to do the job??? Haha You make it look so easy! Thanks for any help!

Where did you get a replacement stem with the brass mixing tip? I bought a "Promaster Pro" (pm)P™ brand Cartridge for Mixet at Home Depot (back of the packaging says KTC Slams, Inc West Grove, PA), and it DOES NOT FIT. It has a white poly mixing tip and it is 0.748" dia., which won't fit into the valve body. The old brass mixing tip is 0.733".
