      The bacteria only populate based on bio-load. One fish in a large tank, will only make a very small amount of beneficial bacteria. The tank will not be cycled for adding community fish.

There's a chance they won't listen since you're young, but there's a chance they will consider what you have to say and do a little more research before buying the fish. Just be polite if you ever do approach someone with suggestions. 🙂

    goldfish in cow troughs actually work pretty well, they’re constantly getting large volume water changes as the water is drank and refilled, and they get tons of food from the algae and food that gets transferred from cows’ mouths. used to try to go fishing in my neighbors cow trough using random foods as bait, and the goldfish in that trough were vibrant, chunky, and reproducing like crazy

    • @heller196
      @heller196 ปีที่แล้ว

      And they also eat any larvae or small bugs that get in the trough! Like mosquito larvae. It'll help keep the water cleaner (except the poop but wild horses drink from bodies of water that have poop anyhow so it should be okay?) One of the reasons they became popular back in the day

    • @XenoMarcc
      @XenoMarcc ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Genuinely curious tho, wouldn’t the goldfish also poop a lot in the water (the pooping machines they are) which may be bad for the cow?

    I want to set up my first aquarium this year, after the flat´s been renovated. You and other youtubers in this field of interest are quite inspiring and I want to take this seriously. Like a proper fish stock, plenty of plants and a nice scape for the fish to have fun with.
    I´ve always been curious about fish tanks. At my middle/high school there was a big salt water tank just outside the janitor's office where I liked to look what was going on. You would love it! I've worked at an engineer's office for a year where they had a fresh water tank where every so often fish died or got attacked. Not sure what the problem was but the fish might have been bored out of their minds having only a few plants to hide and hardly any scape. They did have a cool blue shrimp though which moulted every few months. One time, his one of his pincers got stuck in the old shell and came out all crooked.
    I can't wait to start setting it up, which will probably be somewhere August.

But when I put him in the 5g he started to perk up, and now after 3 days he is happy, energetic, and overall he really seems to love it.
      But if I see any sign of him feeling cramped or unhappy, I'll upgrade him asap. He was actually at petco in a cup for over three mounths. That being said, he seems to be a little clumsy when it comes to swimming

    Happy New Year. I stopped doing resolutions decades ago due to never being able to keep them. I have gotten a free baby shrimp from the LFS on a bushel of hornwort without anyone realizing it before. Sadly, I noticed it had hitchhiked right after I dropped the plant into the tank. It swam for the bottom and one of the residents immediately ate it.

    Yeah anything over 20 or 40 gal is too big as beta are super territorial and feel the need to patrole. It can stress them out to have too much open space to patrole. If you heavily plant then meybe, but hey better this than too small.

  • @wandadawnmiller1552
    @wandadawnmiller1552 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree with Chirs, that tank is way too big and there's too much water movement for the betta. I appreciate the tank creator for putting the betta in something bigger than a bowl, but they need to do some more research. Bettas do best in a dark water tank of around 20 to 30 gallons with heater, sponge filter, and lots of plants. That person would be better off getting a smaller tank for the betta and using the big tank as a really cool community tank.

    My new year's resolutions are to start teaching my high school biology student to do plant tissue culture (we are gonna grow loads of bucephalandra and Anubis), and to run a 10k in under 40 min.

    I hate it to be „that one person“ that writes a not so pleasant comment about the gecko terrarium but I hope the person will do their research again (main problem is, they love to dig so even the substrate is way too low and not the best choice but doable) But anyway happy new year Repashi and Milli you are the best... the best co-hosts!! I‘m team chris-main-charakter😁 Have a great year, Chris, thank you for all your effort and passion, it‘s because of you I started fishkeeping again. I‘m more the shrimp and crab and reptile person but my small chilli rasbora are soo cute to watch, they add so much joy to one of my tank, because of you I felt encouraged to get them and I could not be happier. I wish 2023 will bring a lot of happiness to you too, have a great year!

    One of my friends little sister went to buy a fish for Christmas. She got a 2.5 gallon and wanted a goldfish, when the pet smart employee denied them the fish they argued with him for 30 minutes. My friend called me to ask what’s wrong with it and it took like 20 minutes for him to understand what’s wrong with it.

    When I first set up a tank it was horrible it was over stocked and had little fantasy animals in it like dragons and it was like this for about a year and then I started watching you and I realised how ugly and wrong it was so I saved up and bought the correct equipment and now I have a 2yo 20 gallon planted aquarium for my mollies ❤

    I think hundreds of rummy nose tetras along with baby aro will look good, aros can't catch them coz they are very fast. Tank is massive, you should add something quick to make it look even better

    Horse person in the chat here with three troughs with goldfish.... um.. we do this?
    The water gets changed more than you expect do to refilling the tanks as the horses drink. The tanks have heaters and obviously we test the water since the horses drink it. Some of the tanks have fish that are 4-5 years old right now and when we lose them it's mostly if we have predation from raccoons or herons

    7:45 there is no lid. Guppies need kids because they are jumpers. They can jump like a foot and a half out of the tank. One time, I took off my lid and instantly I had a guppy try to jump. Luckily I caught him and he is fine.

    Qotw- I quit doing resolutions since I always break them before my birthday, which is in January. 😂
    That giant tank with the lone betta, dang. I hope he's planning to put the betta in a different tank before adding all those other fish. I mean, big tanks are great, but how's Mr. Betta supposed to get to the surface in time for food, or air, and compete with tetras once he gets there? My brain is now fried lol. Happy 2023.

  • @IdiosyncH

    Idk why people say don't bury anubis. I have mine in the substrate with some fluval soil and its done so well, I had it send off roots n make baby plants all around my tank. 🤷‍♀️ its been like that for over 8 months and it's the only plant thriving 😅

    • @somerandomperson7223
      @somerandomperson7223 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can bury the roots, but not the rhizomes. Anubias will even like it if you do, just definitely not their rhizomes. I think that’s what people mean when they say don’t bury anubias, it’s just the roots and rhizomes sometimes get confused for (looks-wise), so for beginners it generally recommended not to bury at all since the roots will either go back itself, or it’ll be fine

    That is disguising betta fish can die from stress and overwhelm if they have too much space, a 5 gallon bowl, purified and filtered would be more suitable -with decorations of course
