    Sylvia Lim Response Budget
    Is just focusing on a supply-side Budget wise? Looking at the growth forecasts, even after factoring the stimulus accorded by the Budget, the economic growth figures for 2009 are expected at around (-) 2-5 % GDP contraction (ST 24/1/09). This seems to support the argument that the government should have paid attention to the demand side. It is still not too late for the government to cut the GST rate by 2%. Past budgets

    After 50 years of rule - uninterrupted - the PAP has failed to develop sustainable (population growth, education and economic development) policies that will enable locals to drive our economy, that is, creating jobs and attracting investments, with foreigners playing a complementary role. Instead, the situation has been turned on it head. Foreigners are now the main force behind our economy and Singaporeans are playing the supporting role. Lees’ words, not mine. Dr Chee Soon Juan

    • @hongwei1816
      @hongwei1816 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      lol PAP should stop behaving like "parents" giving so many grants/subsidies for SME start up. To be honest, the locals really need to buck up. Look at our neighbouring countries, they have no govt to depend on

    • @suhandatanker
      @suhandatanker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mars-uy8lrif this was the case then Malaysia would also be on par or at least catching up with Singapore, the locals should really appreciate the island's achievements instead of taking it for granted, it's just the stresses of housing that cause all the problems, I'm sure Malaysia would be far more capable with the larger territory we have if our government had a forward thinking mindset like PAP's.
      If the housing situation could be solved with some miracle tech land reclamation projects, then Singapore would solve most of its financial problems. though I can't say much since I live in KL...

    Malaysia increase 2% sales tax.
    Singapore increase 2% GST .
    Lots of ignorant think they r the same, reality they r not. Sales tax is application at point of sales, its a one time tax. Consumer pay additional 2% tax.
    Gst is a multiple time n level taxation. A 2% gst increase can cause over goods price to be increase by 10% or more .
