My great great grandfather, William Chelsom was born into poverty in London in 1845. When he was 18 he joined the 91st Regiment of Foot (Argyll Highlanders) and was still serving when detached as an instructor at the Army School.of Musketry in 1971 when the regiment became Princess Louise's. It appears that he discharged in the mid 1870s so didn't serve in Zululand.
He joined the Police in Angus, Scotland and unfortunately passed away in his mid 50s in 1896 as a pensioned former Police Sgt.
Absolutely love your channel Rob, especially rhe detail you put in around how the soldiers lived, their kit, weapons etc. Experimental archaeology at its best. Bill Chelsom would be thrilled to bits knowing the lives of him and his thousands of brothers serving across the empire was being kept alive in this way. Thanks again
