Yep. That story is mentioned in _Animal Crossing: City Folk_ when you donate a mantis. In _Animal Crossing: Wild World_ , he mentions he once opened a library book and maggots fell out. (He also mentions being afraid of cockroaches, but he doesn't give a story for that one.)
This is truly wonderful. I had always hoped for an animal crossing horror game! You did an amazing job blending animal crossing with horror; you used lore that I wasn't even aware of, made the museum at night a surprisingly spooky place, and kept Blathers perfectly in character! The ending is sweet, and I can honestly believe this is what Blathers's nights are like when he has to put away bugs. I hope to see more from you one day!
For a horror game, this is pretty light on the horror. But for Blathers, this is basically a nightmare. Though I don't mind the more light horror. I'm not the fondest of the "make cute thing overly disturbing" approach, so this is nice. The art is also pleasant to look at too. And that ending is really cute. D'aw, Celeste is looking out for her brother. I think most of his game is just in Blathers' head, considering the fact that part of this ties into the reason he fears bugs in the first place (the grasshopper). Most as in pretty much all the blood and bugs breaking out. Blathers probably just freaked out upon finishing his job. ...Maybe he should get another curator to help him with the bugs...
You know what would be more scary? If there was an animal crossing game that was first person and your goal was to catch all the tarantulas around your island.
This is pretty cool since I've heard before that Blathers had a bad experience with mantises when he was a kid that scarred him for life, so seeing a fan made game about that concept is awesome!
To be fair, a mantis would only really target birds within there weight class, like hummingbirds, most larger birds are simply do big for a mantis to actually win against. Blathers, being roughly the size of a human of ambiguous age, is several orders of magnitude larger then what a mantis could actually kill and eat.
